@Shawbabe: please read Olhars post o! To be forewarned is to be forearmed! The financial counsellor in Gwinnett categorically told me the prices had been reviewd upwards and the new prices she was quoting we're making my head reel! And to think I had already got a Gwinnett Dr and was to see him that day. I quickly called and cancelled and went for a cheaper option of hospital! Biko I no fit wash hospital linens to pay bill. 14k ke ! For normal delivery? When people payed less than 5k all in all just less than a month ago!

@Olhar: did you get a price quote before your delivery? If you did and it was the former 4-6k price quote you got for normal delivery use it to make your case.
Even if you didn't, I remember that even as at Tuesday this week, they had an automatic voice prompt on their price estimate line which gave an estimate of 4-6k with a 40% discount for self pay(even though their email estimate was saying 8-10k since the price change). Please call and listen to it I doubt that they have changed it yet.

You can use that to also build your case that you called their line and this was the estimate you were given! And insist that you were not told that their prices were reviewed, and so you can't be made to pay the new price when you were informed on their hospital estimate line that it was cheaper. That you had other options at the time and their voice prompt mislead you to believe the price was cheaper. That might work in the bargaining process, so you could use that if you get to speak with a higher authority about the bill. It's well. I'm positive you can work this out. Americans tend to be very reasonable, plus you are paying cash!

@MrsDan: Congrats on the birth of your LO! Thank God for safe delivery.

I'm also using Northside so I'm eager to hear about your hospital experience.

@ bmay: dakotchic has given prices for some hospitals.

Northside Atlanta gave me an estimate of $3550 for vaginal and $5475 for csection
Their Anaesthesia dept quoted $1300 for epidural with 20% discount and $1500 for cs Anaesthesia same discount
My Ob quoted $1600
Don't have a paediatricians quote yet. Hoping MrsDan can help with that.

Atlanta Medical Centre is another okay one.
They quoted $3200 for normal and $5200 for caesarean delivery.

Please take your time and survey very well before you make a decision.
I think that Emory midtown deal is a good one too though. Didn't know about it before.

Good day House members and quiet readers,

i have been going through the long thread and its been most enlightening. Both the successful VO sessions, POE passages and deliveries and the challenging ones. My wife and i have decided to go with WHMC and Dr. Jeanie Hyngh in Houston. We are 10 weeks gone and we just want to make all the preparations on time. Most of the thread has been on single pregnancies, we are expecting twins. Would love to know how the cost would vary.

we plan for wifey to travel before me at about 27-30 weeks and i would join her later and travel back with she and the babies. I would be sponsoring her. we haven't been to the us before.

should we apply at the same time at the embassy? or she first then mine later? We would appreciate your advise

@Bloggerinna we would like to get in touch with you for some information. we sent you a pm.

Hello House,
I am one of the people who have benefitted from this thread. I also used Pherma's burden of proof and letter from Doctoresparati. I was granted Visa in October. My letter had a doctor and an appointment date. I guess I applied before the VOs started getting suspicious.

Please house I have a question, Can I use the letter from doctoresparati for POE or they also frown at the letter at POE. My POE is Chicago and leaving First week in January.

Pherma, Congratulations on the arrival of your LO. God bless your family.

Nooooo! Why is your POE Chicago?! Chicago is one of the most self centred POE in US! Was in Chicago for a while till 2 weeks ago, and and all the POE stories I heard while there were all negative! I don't even know what they are feeling like! Once they hear 'have a baby' they become hostile. My cousins have a few preggie friends that have been sent back at chicago POE, even with cash and all that!

Hello Everyone,

I'm thanking God for the smooth entry I had last Saturday. Houston was to be my POE but after reading all d horrible stories at Houston poe, I decided to reroute my flight through Newyork. I arrived JFK airport and went straight to d rest room to freshen up. I met the immigration officer and we had the below discussion;

Me: Hello (pushing my passport to the guy)
POE: How long are you here for?
Me: 2 months
POE: what's d purpose of ur visit
Me: vacation and to have my baby
POE: (flipping through all d pages of my passports). Where is your husband?
Me: He's in Nigeria
POE:.Is he going to join you later?
Me: No, his schedule is very tight. Not sure he'll be able to make it
POE: Do you have your doctor's appointment letter?
ME: yeah, what i've got is d communication I had with the doctor (handed him the email trail).
POE: How much cash do you have on you?
Me: 9,350 dollars
POE: (Nodding his head). Do you have any other currency?
Me: Nope.
He then stamped me in.
I was very lucky that no one checked or asked what I had in my suit cases as one of my bags contained food items...Almost 25 kg!
I called Dr. Fagbohun and had my first appointment with him last Monday.
Thanks fellow nairalanders for the useful information on this thread.

Gurus in the House,
After hitting a brick wall in my Florida search I have decided to port to Houston.
I am narrowing down to either Oak bend in Richmond and Methodist Hospital in Sugar land, accommodation will be a deciding factor.

As per Tvegas advise, please can someone advise me on those who offer accommodation, feeding or transportation, or better side closest accomodation to these hospitals?

And please any April mamas bound to either if these hospitals/locations please let's plan together...

hi. I am also an April mum heading same place. I am interested in planning together.

Congratulations Naniakay on your successful POE.

I just stumbled on your post above, apologies for not responding at the time. Thanks.
