The Convict ( V) (Rhyme)
Intrusion on silence's speech
Ushered in by a black van's screech.
A wigged man in his spectacle
Sits in tentacles of fates and miracles

And bystanders troops in and out
Some either chants, sings or shouts.
An old man braced himself at the dock
Vehemently clinging to the tinge of luck

Gallery of evidence and exhibit were displayed
At the gleeful eyes of the persecutors and the
dismayed
The judge have seen and heard it all
To give his sentence and leave the hall

"Death by the rope" he declared with the gavel
On a sound block just before it clocked eleven
Though, he knew his judgement has no laxity
To determine his professional sanity

I have written countless letters home.
None were replied by my son, why?
Did the warder feign dispatch?
Its more than a year now
That I have been jailed
No friends no kins,
None have come
To see
Me

Son,
I'm old.
Forgive me
You are my pride
The tears in my joy.
Gracefully write me back
Before life is whisked off me
Your silence might kill me faster
Like choked words before my funeral

If tomorrow starts without me
And I am no more here to see

If your eyes filled with my tears
And your trembling soul dread and fears

I wish you strong heart and warm soul
And coolness on your heart's burning coal

When you think of the day I abscond
And you want to call and I don't respond

When you think of that journey gore
That I will be coming back no more

When you would wish to see or tell me
How much you love and miss me but I flee

But as much as you wish and wish
We will never get to gist or reach

When you think of the days of old
When I'll wake and call you my blood

Sweetheart, son, princess or friend
My loving words have come to an end

If tomorrow starts without me
And I'm no more here to see

Do not think my spirit has flown away forever
Lean back on our fondly memories, but don't shiver

Remember my smiles and gentle touch
Like the gentle autumn of rain and blush

Remember my scorns and hurtful insults
Remember my wrongs and painful words

When flagging my zeal and strengths
Or gone the treaded gentle poetry paths

When the lilies in my head have withered
The roses in my hand have fallen and wandered

When the galaxy of stars glisten a forlorn hope

When the earth's liquid I'll drink no more
Or favourite dish in my mouth will become sour

When my shrouded brain no longer thinks
Or my cold hands no linger hold pen or blinks

When the darkness and hidden fears are gone
When I'll no longer bother about the the morrow

Shower me blessings and earthly prayers
That will ascend me to the heaven's layers

Shall I say my delight to write you this?
If by no means I will burn down the earth
Whirl wind has shaken me in my lone days
I’ve wandered lonesome in the shade of death
Since you bid me a valedictory way
Hell fury of the heaven’s eye burns me
And my face’s clutter’d tears cast a ray
In a mirror before me you I see
Sadness has made you wear an olden grey
And I shall change your old skin back to youth
Even if your love’s strength seem to decay
I hope you race back with a cheetah’s foot
As this rich words poetry plead for my wrong
My love shall in my verse forever live young

In the Book of Life it is Written.
Of course we knew one another then.
From the Father we learned line upon line.
I came here first, but you promised to be mine.
A covenant made and not to be Forgotten.

A veil was dropped. It clouded our vision.
But these two souls knew our love could not be
hidden.
We searched the world till finally a Sign.
Through the distance fate would refine.
Memories flowed Unforbidden.
Once again to be my valentine.
Full of love and adoration.
No hesitation

Reflections And Rainbows

Your laughter rings in my ears. The sweet sound
echoes through my mind, capturing the memories
we made.

Your sweet words remain in my heart, refusing to
leave, ignoring my pleas, evading the supposed
infraction.

The sight of your smile was the sun in my sky.
Clouds cover what once was mine. Yet regret won't
let the light fade.

Shadows cover the joy I once felt at the sound of
your voice. No longer will I know this bliss, or have
that satisfaction.

Memories of you will forever haunt my soul.
Thoughts of what might have been. Hopes chased
into the dark night.

A future once as bright as the glow you used to put
on my face, is now marked by doubt and deception.

That feeling I once knew. That flutter you once
caused. I can't escape it. Try as I might.

SILENT SCREAM

She was only thirteen,
Yet she cheerfully helped her mum in their little
canteen.
She looked pale, scrawny, fragile and thin
And from her look you would doubt she was already
a teen.

She was full of Life.
Even when working or chopping with a knife
Her nights were usually filled with worry and strife.
Yet she constantly dreamt that one day she will be a
wife.

It was time for her usual afternoon hawking.
Rice and beans at noon she was usually peddling.
Through the streets and market she was always
plying.
Just to help with the burden her mother alone was
carrying.

Suddenly she heard a frightful loud bang.
A surge of pain like the strike of a cobra's fang.
Her whole body seared and writhed with great pang.
While from a distance an unattended cell phone
continuously rang.

All around her corpses scattered about lying.
It was hard to breath but yet she was trying.
She was cold and numb and also crying.
And she knew right there that she was slowly dying.

She clutched to her bleeding side as she laid down.
Dust and blood covered her brightly coloured gown.
Her soul quietly slipping free and totally unbound.
As she relived fond memories of her beloved home
town.

You might wonder why I haven't yet named her.
Well that's cos she could be anyone's sister.
Maybe Aisha, Nnenna, Funke or Deborah.
But the painful fact is that she is now gone forever.

And just like an abruptly ended dream,
Her whole ambitions and desires were trimmed.
By our fellows wielding arms with utmost grim.
While all I could utter was a loud SILENT SCREAM.
...
Pls, say a word of prayer for our great nation...
NIGERIA WILL YET RISE AGAIN!!!
... IGIT!!!

TRUTH BE TOLD

A sudden realization,
A complete revelation,
A true confession,
A definite conclusion.

A life freely given,
A God above in heaven,
A destiny openly hidden,
A race more than certain.

A soul full of promise,
A mind free to make choices,
A world full of voices,
A body destined for demise.

A truth out in the air,
A reaper so very near,
A demon we all fear,
A death uncertain but clear.

A love that fulfills our fantasy,
A lover that provides all ecstasy,
A life that leaves a legacy,
A desire we all hope we see.

A killer that lurks in the corner,
A penchant to amass and be owners,
A longing to be first and sole winners,
A lie that we are all sinners.

A blessing of life and days,
A secret to work and make hays,
A skill to shine like rays,
A job that we hope pays.

A fact that not all will thrive,
A hope that's why we strive,
A gift that only God can give,
A common end for us in the grave.

A time to live and die,
A desire to be at the top on high,
A better life for which we vie,
A fact that the end is nigh,
...IGIT!!!

She dresses gorgeously
She is admired by all and sundry
She is called the feminine beauty

She watches with kin interest
Hands moving from plate to mouth
One coughs, she rushes to get water
She watches over them like a mother hen
She is so over protective
She sleeps hungrily
They sleep joyfully
She abhors all insults
She bears all injury
Just to protect the one she loves
She is a mother indeed
She is the proverbial virtuous woman
She is known as a woman of substance


A SONNET BY MOI
Every morning begins with a journey
Man, animals, nature and all that rise
Our motive for struggling is for money
I just wonder what else in our heart lies

The wisdom to think has been left to sleep
We rush and seek out for what is not lost
Our purpose for living has long being freed
The sound of prayer is ignored like frost

The clock goes tick, tock by the passing hour
Man ignores, avoid the gift of letter
The brain just snobs the being with the power
He that says yes to prayers, our Father

Let all creations learn to worship Him
I wonder if nature can watch a film?

Musings...
.....the chill after the Storm
untold fears of days gone, and yet to come.

Sometimes, I would crawl inwards,
grasping hope.
Sucking in energy- filling my core.

Then, it burns hot and intense.
Again, cold and deflated.
It rises, unheeded....
....ebbs outwards and spills unabated.

I have wrapped yesterday up,
tucking the excess, here and there.
I have stepped through the urn,
my gaze flitting back and forth....

I am held in time,
lone and wading through a churning whorl.

I am the dot in the square...
the one way mirror, shining, touching- edge to edge.
Life looks in at me, arms folded.

I could hurl headlong, though the whorl.
Or toss today, one head- one tail....

The loser is fate.

If tomorrow never comes, then I should be far gone.
What's a game when only one player remains?

If I ever break through this glaze, it is to grasp
TODAY.

I can hold my fingers-
like Fehling did.
But this time, my thumb will poke fate in the eye.

If I ever.....


I WILL REMEMBER
The faces shadowed in darkness
slightly tilted, cheeks gaunt.
Thinking of lands they can't go,
..things they will never have.

The shame that clings to them,
like eels in slimy mud.

I will remember.
Those eyes that stares at nothing...
....dreams of nothing.
Tears,
Longings!
Eyes dim even in daylight.

Ah!
How can I forget!
..those mouths mumbling.
Every second in fervent prayers.
Necks bent from constant straining,
mouths filled- with stale pastries.

The desolation.
Suffering!
Hunger!

How will I forget the weary limbs,
that roam- thin and worn.
From crusades to sowing seeds,
fasting, looking up to the higher being.

I will remember, the suffering-
and longing.
The hopelessness of the weary,
in this land flowing with milk and honey.

Christmas With Grandma.

Red flicky lights found on every street,
Litttle kids gather each with a piece of steak,
Truck load of goats..all we hear is bleat,
Tucking us in our little bed ...we found it hard to
sleep.

Dawn is here...christmas eve is gone,
Then the knock came...grandma is at the door,
Little kids gather ...each giving her a hug,
With swollen eyes she reciprocated our love,
now its time for story...grandma gave each of us a
gift.

How i sang in my mind...a song called perfect bliss,
With nodding heads...we began to grieve,
A story of a man who died on christmas day without
eating beef.
All of a sudden we noticed tears in her eyes.

Each hitting the ground...gently like a drizzling tap,
With our little hands we gave her a pat,
Then it dawned on us why grandma cried.
For on the spot she sat,...was where granpa last
christmas....breathed his last.

Something dropped into my spirit
Something did prick my mind
Something I just can't phantom
Something I just don't understand
Something I can't explain
Something that am still trying to come in terms
with
Still trying to join all the linked chains
The pieced words
The opened phrase
And the doted lines
But with all
I still don't understand
Had trouble trying to make meaning of those
illusive thoughts
Kept fighting with my spirit because I want to
understand
My brain nearly went blank
As I was poundary on this issue
Then
I fell into a trance
A trance I couldn't explain how I came about it
A trance I think I could find answers
A trance I thought will be the magic place where
answers could be gotten
A trance that I thought would speak better
A trance I want it to juxtapose all the thoughts,
chains, sentence, phrase and dots
A trance I did hoped it will lift the burden
This I did stay for a long time
But
still didn't get the meaning to those inquiries
still can't find answers
still can't find a ray of hope
Still can't .....................
Because all I see are blur images
All I hear are murmur words
With patience and straining of ears I heard a still
voice saying
Think outside the box
Think outside the realm of a realist
Give a deeper thought on those thing that doesn't
matter
Because the answer u seek for is not here.

I understand you though and I must confess that I don't know zilch about Rules, Concord, Punctuations, etc when it comes to poetry. I just write whatever comes to my head.
I have always hidden behind the fact that I am a Physicist - NOT a grammarian.
I love poetry so much and I'm glad that I can always employ poetic-license when writing.

really like the poetry expecially d one talking of a girl hulking food to sustain her mom then all of a sudden it's like something explode. that is to my understanding and that was d end of her life. it was sorrowful and kindaff real to me.
