Before coming to Nigeria, why didn't you call a relative of yours to know the precautionary steps to take or to even come and assist you? I know you may have wanted to see the country sides, the roads, and the level of development but why didn't you just take a flight to owerri or Enugu or asaba since you have such money and those sensitive documents with you. Well if you are a citizen of the state or permanent resident, I think you can still approach the embassy to inform them I am sure they would do something for you but for the money and other items. its gone forever. I sympathize with you though. Sorry!!!

You just speak my mind... I'm having this feeling that the woman is stingy, why cant a relative pick her from the airport or better still take a flight from Lagos to Asaba. In this cashless era she wants to risk $8000 along Benin - ore road, even if the load carrier didn't mess her up, the risk is not worth it.

Please let's stop this bad-mouthing of Nigeria. It has nothing to do with Nigeria being bad or good. This kind of thing happens in any crowded subway station in large cities around the world. If you are careless and dont keep your wits, you can lose your shirt. Period.

I feel sorry for the lady. She should visit the US consulate immediately at Walter Carrington road, Victoria Island and lodge a complaint. She will be issued travel documents to enable her return to the US. If she will stay in Nigeria for up to 2 weeks, she can be issued a new US passport.

But, I have a little question. How can a Nigerian living in the US chose to go through the needless hassle of travelling by bus to the East, when she could fly in safety and comfort to either Owerri or Enugu? If she is from Anambra, she can fly to Asaba.

But this didn't happen @ the airport. Didn't she change money? After changing part of the money, why didn't she put everything in her handbag, where her eyes could see it. And what is her travel documents doing inside her luggage. Anyways she should take heart. If na me knowing fully well my travel documents and money re in my luggage, i no need any priest to tell me that i shouldn't give my luggage to anyone, not even my brother.
