Currently, we do have the same rights. I don't see any special rights enjoyed by Yorubas in Lagos state. Can you outline any of these "special rights"?

So, with all the money they have looted in, while turning the whole state into a private estate - he still couldn't resist whatever meagre amount they gave him? Especially when the premise for that is a compromise with a condescending image, no? A lot of these Yoruba folks are Esau/Judas - they'll sell their souls for a plate of porridge. Greedy fvckers! grin Not shocking since Awolowo was betrayed as well.

Oh, so all those cries from Nigeria during the Lagos deportation saga were also just online threats, no? And also FFK taking on loads on Igbos over the Lagos issue, no? You lot love living in denial. Just accept that Yorubas are soft, end of story. grin

I hear that. But they can't allow them compromise the culture and language. I don't want to go to a place that's meant to be Yorubaland, and start feeling I'm in an Igbo enclave. I'm not Igbo and I'm not interested in the culture. grin
i think its too late for that. i am sure the white british dont like going to a place that reminds them of nigeria but hey, they are stuck with peckham grin

Validated:
I knew a landlord who had an Ibo tenant. The tenant had a booming business and landlord was getting rent regularly. Incremental rent was as he wished.

The tenant and his wife grew the small stall and soon expanded to occupy two additional rooms in the house. They created shelves and turned the small shop into a supermarket.

Then the landlord and his wife became jealous. So the asked the man to pack. They claimed that they wanted to renovate the place for their son who is grown and needs a room. Against all plea, the landlord insisted that the Ibo man must pack. The Ibo man packed and luckily got another space on Ifako-Ijaye Road. This was in 2010.

Meanwhile landlord and wife opened a supermarket. Fast forward to July 2014, landlord supermarket has since closed and deserted. The same Ibo trader just bought the house from him and allowed his (landlord) son to live in one room.

This is the irony of a Lagos "Landlord". My question really is "who owns Lagos"? If you take a census you would be surprised. For example in my small street, we have about 15 Landlords. Of these number, 4 are Yorubas.. The rest are Ibos and Mid-Westerners. The Yoruba neighbour opposite my house is late and the feelers is that the children are willing to sell. The one beside is is uncompleted and may be sold soon as it requires demolition.

A good example is the Obawoles. They owned almost half of Ifako-Ijaye, but as I write almost 70% of the land have been sold to "Visitors" who now have 99 years occupancy rights. Who is the landlord or rather who owns Lagos if I may ask?

You are the judge.
As a yoruba man I agree to what you have just said...(Thanks for reminding us) but remeber that was what happened in North prior to the civil war...but what happened when the war started,, All business and propeties owned by your people in the north was taken back home abi....
You think ojukwu that wept at Alaba is a fool abi..and remeber his advise to you...why don't we do this in our Land?

Any foreigner who reads this deluded twaddle would think Yoruba land is like some utopian Scandinavian welfare state that has freely catered to destitute Igbos who arrived with only their clothes on their backs. Who would know it's just like any other impoverished area in Africa with tons of people living in squalor - except many of its impoverished indigenes sell off their land to settlers and then get all outraged at the suggestion they're ceding control of the land they're selling. Whatever we get in this state, we work for it. You do not provide any "benefits" whatsoever to settlers. All the settlers do is add to the economy and drive commerce and pay their taxes. People come to Lagos because it's the industrial and commercial nerve centre of the country, with port facilities and a huge market to target. They don't come because they're expecting any benefits from anyone. Benefits from who? Who do you think you're fooling wih your delusional self-flattery?
it makes them feel good about themselves, believing that something the do not own, but claim to won, Lagos, saves the Igbo that migrates to Lagos.

hardwork is what makes the Igbo man successful... but they would rather lay claim to the factors of production than hail the ingenuity of the Igbos...

It does make me laugh each time they talk about how they received Igbos lol its so funny; you would think Igbos have it sooo god, better than those fleeing war or famine... na wah o!

Lol, they're slowly but surely taking Peckham back. Peckham should be white again in the next 10-20 years. Brixton is even on a faster pace. I was there last weekend, and the place has changed - with so many white people. Once they finish pulling down all the estates, it should become over 70% white.

White people are migrating back to London like never before, and they're moving black people out. What's the population of black people in the UK? - just 3%. What do black folks own? - absolutely nothing. We're not even a threat to no one, and not entitled to anything apart from the passport, really. Even the identities are different: you're British - and they're English, Welsh, Irish, and Scottish.

catchment area.
Catchment area is about geographical location and possible socio-cultural similarities. However, it is based on merit. In essence, NIGERIANS, as a whole are admitted, but a few, from some STATES (not ethnicity), are given preference based on their geographical location. Which means that an Igbo can gain admission as well as a Yoruba and Hausa in Lagos State.

We all have the right to study anywhere we want in Nigeria, as long as we are Nigerians and we meet the qualification criteria. Catchment area does not give a Yoruba student more right to study in Lagos state than an IGBO student.

Moreover, catchment area is more about state than ethnicity. An Igbo student that graduated from a school in OYO or Osun is still eligible.

i hear all that bro but the point is there are roughly 7 billion people on the planet and if you spaced each person out and distributed land and sea to everyone, each person will get land the size of peckham. each person on this earth is entitled to land the size of peckham. thats how vast the earth is. the fact that humans choose to clump into one space is the new world order we currently live in. and at the end of the day no one owns the land. you was born on it and will die on it and you wouldnt take it with you. so while we are here lets just enjoy it as opposed to fighting over it. and to guarantee the future and location of different tribes and nations, the leaders and elders of these tribes should deed all the land to the tribe and just leasehold to everyone. thats all you can do. you cant be fighting over land dat dont belong to you physically. live and let live but secure your future by deeding the land to yoruba ancestry. thats all you can do bro. you cant fight population flow. people wil always go where the money is wink

One thing we all fail to understand is that the word Nigeria is not accepted by all especially the nidigbos who believed so much in BIAFRA. They are never contented. If possible they want to rule over everything that comes their way. Though some of them are good but most of them are not friendly. What they are doing in Yoruba land can never be done in the north. I really can't blame them if not for some stupid and useless omo ooniles we have. They are not supposed to own a plot of land in any Yoruba land not to talk of building a house. The govt gave a slot to them yet they are not satisfy. Maybe they want the deputy governorship. Mtchewww.

Population flow is part of humanity existence. However, the land you occupy is intertwined with your consciousness, civilisation, and growth as a human being. Hence the sense of entitlement. And once you lose ya land, your existence will take a downward spiral. Look at the history of humanity, the struggles, and how civilisations have been able to conquer civilisations based on land.

Let's start with the Egyptians and the hyskos. If they had been more careful, Egypt would never had lost its glory, and it probably would still be black land. Now look at how losing lower Egypt started the downfall of the black race - and we're yet to recover from that.

Then you look at how the Roman empire crumbled after Vandals took over. Fall of Carthage to the Romans. The moors of Europe and the Christian crusaders. Christopher Columbus and the native Americans. British empire and the aborigines of Oceania. The carving out of Africa at the Berlin conference. South Africa and the Afrikaans and British. The two world wars fought over land issue.

What do all these, you'll understand why folks attach so much importance to land issue. You lose ya land, and ya civilisation and identity will go with it. Thus turning you into serfs. That's just how the world is, and how it's going to be. You have to protect your land at all times.

Lol, superiority is the crux of the matter (Thanks for bringing that up and getting my point). Hence I'm questioning the weakness of the Yorubas, since the Igbos seem to be the superior force here due to the never ending threats and piss-take. grin So, are they a "bigger and badder" force than the Yorubas? - that's basically what I want to know. And if they're "bigger and badder" force in Nigeria, the Yorubas might as well bow down to them.

Lol, Yorubas act like a minority group in Nigeria, despite being the biggest single ethnic bloc in the country, once you separate the Hausas from the Fulanis. And they need to start acting it. They just cower to everyone and it's painful to watch as a Yoruba person. Heck, even small Ijaws also threaten them from time to time - hysterical. grin

They have taken that nonsense out here, and hearing folks say Yorubas are cowards these days on these streets doesn't even shock me anymore. There was even some Uncle who said that shiit, and my boy was so pissed that he almost bottled him. I had to tell him to allow it, that it's a naij thing.

The analogies you've made don't apply at all. The displaced people were forcefully usurped by superior foes. Here, you have the simple case of a tribe demanding greater inclusiveness in the very lop-sided politics of a state which they contribute a lot to and populate immensely. Nigeria and Africa will eventually evolve past this irrational, antiquated phase, where ethnic origin seems to matter much more than your place of birth or assimilation and productive contribution to the place. We're obviously still caught up in rabid ethnocentrism for a long time to come. These are overrated, unproductive sentiments accorded too much importance. People pretend these sentiments matter more than they actually do, but such fervent ethnocentrism, rather than the positive glue that holds together our identity is just a useful tool for the ruling class - just like religion, that opiate of the masses. The greatest civilizations the world has seen manage to surmount such small-minded ideals. It's no wonder the most backward, sh.it-hole continent on the planet is the most fragmented and tribalistic.

You telling your boy to allow it instead of taking the man on shows you did the same thing you are accusing others of. Why ask the boy to backdown when you are clamoring for Yorubas not to take such statements lying down huh That's hypocritical ,if Igbo people or any other tribe know that saying such things to a Yoruba person will get them a beating that would be more effective . Infact you yourself showed cowardice by letting some say such about your tribe and you didn't take home on . The man will say it to his people that I even said it to their faces and they need nothing undecided. So you are perpetuation the perception

Lol, not inciting violence.

I just expect more decisiveness in decision making, just to put an end to the boldness. You can't be clingy with ya own, and still go about trying to force others to share theirs. Just take a look at the Anambra election, and all the amala talks about APC and Yorubas trying to lord over them. The labelling of Lagos as a "no man's land." And this utterly disrespectful letter question the language and tradition of the land.

What's next? - they might start asking the indigenous Lagos folks to start working for them as slaves.

Seriously, bro, I can't believe you can hold on to primitive ideas. It is surprising to me that you keep blinding yourself to the facts of modernity.
