Whether anybody accepts it or not, the pogrom was justified. Reason(s)- The Ibos dined and wined with the North to spite the West. Out of treachery, they adopted military machinery to slaughter their political allies and the West and Midwest. Haven installed Ironsi, they made and distributed posters with Ironsi placing his boot on the head of a fallen Sardauna thus further rubbing salt into the northern injury. We the Yoruba were stupid to have preserved their property and handed same back to them after the war. They repaid us by Azikiwe/North alliance against the West, stoning Awolowo in the East during a campaign and open hatred for us. I hate your suggestion that a commissioner slot be given to them. The theme is - no more privilege for them in the SW. The idea now is that when the bubble bursts, every single Ibo and property in the SW will constitute a collateral damage. I remain committed to avenging the callous murder of Victor Banjo and their treatment of Awolowo. Any Yoruba leader or government that accords them any special recognition from this year will be digging his own grave.

You r right, totally agreed with all your points. Like I said earlier, we should (Yorubas) make our opinion known by writing to Yoruba leaders that Igbos should remain where they belong in south west. However, i ll personally take my own step as regards this and see what comes out of it. No beef!!! It's all about treating me or any other person the same way u would like to be treated.

I really like your write up -- read and reread it... and what I understood from it is a yearning for complete implementation of federalism in the country. With that implementation, one will find that no particular "ethnic" group will be clamouring for the top job at the center because it will be merely ceremonial in nature as the real action will be within the federating units ( whatever they may be called). Also "Igbos" clamoring for any position within the federating units will effectively be dealth within the constituent laws and constitution of the unit.

Say yes to true federalism

Thanks Bro. All what we are saying is that Igbos should either move back to the East to become whatever he/she wants to become politically or remain in South west and shut up; no more demand for a political office in the entire west.

Another option is, Igbos would create or give room for other ethnic nationalities to become whatever they want to become in the East and Igbo could then aspire to become whatever he/she wants to become in any part of the country politically.

This is a new journey for this present Yoruba generation................

Anybody who writes epistle on this conjecture by a Yoruba tribal irredentist is a basement fool. The so-called letter was a forgery masterminded by the same source that planted the crap that Lt Col. Francis Fajuiyi opted to die with Ironsi. The Yoruba will stop at nothing to attract cheap political attention. What a bunch of losers.

That is the summary of my write up and Nigeria history my brother. Prior to Jonathan administration, I was gunning for Igbo presidency as a result of their marginalisation rhetorics which has become a music to my ears over the years. As at that time, I have not taken my time to look into Nigeria history very well cos I was of opinion that Igbos were being marginalised but as God we have it, Igbos attitude under Jonathan administration was not only shocking, disappointing but repulsive and revealing to me and this attitude of theirs gave birth to my interesting journey into reading and digesting Nigeria history.

I went online, did my research on Nigeria history and what I found was what you clearly stated right there; Igbos were the one who ushered in what we are witnessing today which is tribalism and nepotism at all levels.

Prior to that pogrom in the North, Igbos were doing exactly what they are doing today in South west to the Hausas/Fulanis, thinking those guys were fools and uneducated. Igbos and Yorubas were getting most of the civil servants' jobs in the North without any tribal interferences until Igbos started disrespecting their hosts even rubbing their illiteracy to their faces. The result of their attitude was that pogrom which was well justified to an extent.

And the final one was the Igbos coup; can you just imagine what these people did? killed and maimed other regions politicians/leaders without hurting one single politician from their side despite the fact Igbos party led by Nnamdi Azikwe formed that corrupt(reason for the coup by Izeogwu) government with Hausa/Fulanis party. Who does this for Christ sake and get away with it?

After this failed coup, Hausa/fulanis made up their minds and sealed the fates of Igbos in the north. But surprisingly, Yorubas, allowed Igbos to flourish in the west without any restrictions in any forms. But my brother, Igbos are now making the greatest mistake of their life by touring the path they toured in the North again in South west by their demand for Deputy governor position in South west(the people they hate so much). OPC and Yorubas are watching them just like Hausas/Fulanis were watching them back in the days and i can assure u one thing and that thing is that this beginning of the end of Igbos in south West. They are pushing Yorubas towards what Hausas/Fulanis did to them and that might happen sooner than they expect it.

These are the people who rejected Ngige on the basis of his association with Yorubas/Hausas party and the same people wants to become a deputy governor in other regions. No way!!!! It is high time the message is passed across to Oba Akinolu and other leaders in Lagos state that Igbo should only be given one to two commissioner slots in Lagos and I ll personally see to this petition. Igbos would only be allowed to aspire to governorship position in any south west states until they allow other tribes to become a governor in their own region.

I do not like distorting history, the problem of tribalism in Nigeria started when Awolowo sacked Zik from the west/mid-west. Whatever has been happening since then in Nigeria has been a chain reaction of that event. It created distrust about the Nigerian statehood. You preach one Nigeria....yet you refuse to practice what you preach.

The Igbos are exceptional people in Nigeria because of their ability to adapt to new situations easily. Their resilience is often confused to be dominance. I do not speak for all Igbo people....but I am proud igbo man because of our democratic heritage before the whiteman came. The igbos are the most detribalised nigerians based on our ability to settle and inter marry with anybody. We develop wherever we settle...it must not be an igbo land before we build on it.

You can not demand to govern Enugu when no yoruba man that works in Enugu has ever bought a parcel of land in Enugu. He prefers to take the money back to Ibadan to buy land and build upon. If one Nigeria is real, we all have the right to settle and claim citizenry wherever we reside. Obama was born in Hawaii, settled in Chicago and became a senator in Chicago. If Nigeria was truly built on the american state, why should Femi born in Osun not be able to settle in Onitsha and contest for elections there just as yoruba man was the mayor of Enugu when Zik was sacked by Awolowo.

It is either we practice federalism or we dont....you dont deceive yourself in making laws that dont work. My parents warned me about getting into agreements that I cant keep. Failed promises has destroyed nigeria....from Zik-Awolowo saga to Ojukwu-Gowon Aburi accord issues. Remove tribalism and let the qualified win...your tribe/religion does not qualify you...your personality does. I do not believe in quota system or national character....I believe in competency. Our laws by talking of quota system and national character encourages tribalism, mediocrity and corruption.

Thanks brother. The Call/ bell to a national(Odua nation) duty has been ranged by Igbos attitude and hatred towards Odua Nation in the last couple of months; hatred online, radio biafra disrespecting our heroes, demanding for political office while refusing to allocate just a common Town hall for my few brothers and sisters in their region, stay away from subsidy rally-saw it as Yoruba rally, demonisation of APC at last election in Anambra, rejected their own beloveth son (Dr. Ngige) on d basis of his association with Yorubas/Hausa. M calling us names to our faces while making living in our nation, killed our political leaders, calling our land no man's land etc.

Somebody has to let them know that their days in South West are numbered. Our generation and coming Yoruba generation have to be well protected; save them from being abused on their fathers' land and keep Yoruba interest as priority on our today and future plans before anything.

Talking about subsidy rally, you need to understand us as a people; we are capitalists by nature while the yorubas are socialists by nature. The Igbos thrive in competitions and not handouts. The average igbo man does not want free education and subsidies...he wants a free market economy were he can compete. The petroleum sector can not develop until you remove subsidy and make it competitive. Competition spurs development and growth. I want steady petrol and not cheap petrol that enslaves me to the government. Look at what the automotive policy is helping the economy.

Says who? You, i presumed. Let me quickly bisect and dissect the definition of socialism and capitalism before we proceed and I would like you to tell me if you are right or wrong about this assumption of yours after you must have taken your time to comprehend what the two stand for.

Capitalism is defined as an economic system in which the means of production and distribution are privately or corporately owned and development occurs through the accumulation and reinvestment of profits gained in a free market from Free Dictionary(not my own definition or what I was taught in School and to prevent any altercation/distortion in the definition)

Socialism is defined a systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy from Free Dictionary

Bro, i believed u ve read these definitions by now and that is why I am asking if you r still holding on to your assumption; that Yorubas are socialist by nature or you have changed your mind as regards that assumption. I think this is the right time for us to keep the record straight, it's a wrong assertion that Igbos are more business oriented than Yorubas. Lies from pit of hell, our approaches to businesses is what differentiate Yorubas from Igbos and the same thing applicable to Hausas/Fulanis too. The only thing that differentiate Igbos from others-Yorubas,Hausas/Fulanis in business world is their_Igbos quest for success at all cost and this unrivalled ability to stay as apprentices for years in preparation for their own capital outlay into their own businesses while Yorubas would prefer to go to school for that period of time. The typical example of this point is not far fetched; Yoruba movie industry and Igbo movie industry are good for our case study, which one is more thriving in financial abundance? your answer is as good as mine Bro.

Before Africa invasion by Europeans, business has always be our main source of income in Yoruba nation; competition was what Yoruba businesses were all about. Yorubas were more capitalists by nature than being socialists and I ll prove this to you. Back in the day, we have what we called Obas and Baales, at the end of every month or year, Baale would gather a percentage of what they(his subjects engaging in businesses, farming etc) have made in the whole month or year and send the well deserved percentage to the Obas(central-federal government in a way); and this was as good as what we called decentralised government(True federalism) today.

Igbos are business oriented was a wrong assertion that started back in the days and nobody seems to be bothered about it in 21st century but I personally think it's high time we separate the wheat from the chaff. Yes in just said that Bro!!! hmmmm!! read on......... In 60s, Yorubas preferred education to businesses while Hausa/Fulanis preferred to be in the military but by late 60s to early 70s, Igbos started embracing education and still hold on to their businesses. Yorubas were not left out of the equation too, they started engaging more in businesses while education remained a priority to every Yorubas.

As at today, there are millions of Yorubas in businesses, doing amazingly well; from Akande, Adenuga, Folawiyo, Okoya, Davido's dad(forgotten his name), my dad grin grin-kill youself or go hug transformer for squeezing my dad in there(my pale dey try too), Otedollars, Alakija, Balogun etc and of course, those women and men in Balogun market, Dugbe market, 70% of Nigerian thriving business in London and US are owned by Yorubas.

You are right my Brother. The drum of war is being beaten by the Igbos in south west by demanding for what they would never give to others in their region. It's quite sad that our relationship with Igbos ll be caught short, any moment from now.

They deserves to be treated the way they are being treated in the north(except the violence) and that is exact treatment we should be subjecting them to but not violence though.

Nice submission but you should know is that the only thing that seperates Igbo is that irrespective of the education. The average Igbo is a risk taker and entrepreneur.. that is what differentiate Igbo from Yoruba

Both are educationally minded but the duffderebce is that the Igbo dude will work for an organization for sometime and go and run his own firm but the Yoruba dude is will love to have a long service award but that isokay

If you llook at subsidy and Jonathan issue you should and will understand that Yoruba will cry government this and that and you rarely find Igbo antagonising

So from the deduction you will see that Yoruba are tilting toward socialism and communism whereas Igbo are on capitalism

This is the way nature and nurture made it

I think yoribas should venture out of their comfort areas and find a way to dominate those areas instead if crying wolf everyday

People are beginning to see yoribas as a lazy bunch

They cried Ghana must go
Noe they are crying Igbo

That means they can't compete

You will see in park they will form a cartel to control price ..same in the market the cartel minded women ..this is not competition and this is not capitalism

So you can see this everyday . With this mentality they can't compete and you know competition brings out thebest

OJUKWU's LETTER TO YORUBAMAN BANJO..."TAKING OUR DESTINIES INTO OUR HANDS"

August 1967

From: The Military Governor, Republic of Biafra, Enugu.

My Dear Victor,

1. For some time now, you and I have been discussing the circumstances that have led to the current and inevitable disintegration of what was the Federation of Nigeria. We have been fully convinced that the aim of the Hausa/Fulani complex has ever been, and will ever remain, the total domination of every other part of what was known as the Federation of Nigeria. It is impossible to forget that the crisis which led to the army take over in January 1966, the coup of the Northern soldiers led by Gowon in July 1966, the wholesale and indiscriminate massacre of the people of what is now Biafra- and, to a less degree, the people of the Mid-West and West, including the Yorubas, were all the direct result of Hausa/Fulani attempt to subjugate and use as tools, the gallant people of Western Nigeria namely the Yorubas. We do not need to remind ourselves of the heavy losses in life and property suffered by the Yoruba people in their fight for justice and freedom during 1965.

2. Sharing.our belief that the people of Yorubaland have a right to live a life of equality and self-respect and justice free of domination and dictatorship from any quarter, you have both identified with the cause of the Biafra struggle for survival and expressed your determination to see the people of Yorubaland freed from Hausa/Fulani domination.
We, the people of Biafra, for our part are willing and have decided to give you and the people of Yorubaland every assistance to achieve your aim.

3. After clearing the whole question with my Executive Council, I, as the Commander in Chief of the Biafran Armed Forces, have decided to place at your disposal Biafran forces, for the liberation of Yorubaland on the following clear conditions:-
(i) You will have nothing to do with the Military Administrator in the Mid-West Territory during your sojourn there prior to your move to the West.
(ii) The willingness and preparedness of Biafra to assist any part of the former Federation of Nigeria wishing and willing to liberate itself from the Hausa/Fulani domination, does not in anyway whatever imply any inclination on her part to compromise her sovereignty or preserve what remains of the defunct Federation of Nigeria. In other words, our sovereignty and break with Nigeria is irrevocable. Nothing must, therefore be said or done by you or any member of the Liberation Army to give a contrary impression.
(iii) Biafra is determined to maintain and safeguard her sovereignty and ensure that her integrity and safety are never again threatened.
(iv) Biafran troops will, after the liberation of the Yorubaland, remain in that territory only for as long as we in Biafra consider it necessary for the Yorubas to consolidate their position and sovereignty against any external threat.
(v) On the liberation of the Yorubaland, you will be appointed as the Military Governor of that territory.
(vi) The liberation of Western Nigeria will be a prelude to the liberation of all Yorubas up to the River Niger and the severance of all connections between the West and the North at Jebba.
(vii) During the period of Biafrans troops’ presence in your territory, all political measures, statements or decrees shall be subject to the approval, in writing by myself or on my authority.
(viii) Should our troops arrive and liberate Lagos, the government of the Republic of Biafra reserves the right to appoint a Military administrator for the territory. Such an Administrator will remain in office until a merger of that territory with Yorubaland is effected by Biafran troops.
(ix) As soon as possible after your appointment as the Military Governor of Western Nigeria and separation of that territory from Nigeria, you and I must meet to discuss:
(a) the duration of stay of Biafran troops in your territory;
(b) the areas and subjects of cooperation between the liberated sovereign states of Western Nigeria, or by what name it may call itself, and Biafra.

4. I do not need to remind you that Biafra regards all Yoruba as friends. As such everything should be done, to ensure the minimum force and loss of life are involved in achieving the objective of liberation.

5. It is essential, in order to avoid misunderstanding or confusion, that all subsequent requests for support be formally made to me by you in writing.

6. Will you please signify in writing, your acceptance of the above conditions so that you may leave for Western Nigeria and lead the army of liberation.

Yours very sincerely,
signed Lt. Col. Odumegwu Ojukwu,
Military Governor and Commander in Chief of Biafran Armed Forces

The calls from Yorubas all over the world for Igbos exit from south west is gaining momentum online and of course offline and the sole responsibility of keeping this momentum lies on our shoulders as Yoruba youth. I ll get in touch with few people within my reach in the next couple of weeks and see what happen from there...........

It's high time Yorubas Leaders are confronted with our demand which is "IGBOS SHOULD BE KEPT AT BAY IN OUR POLITICAL SPHERE".

I am equally suggesting that a Yoruba Youth Defence Movement should be inaugurated right here on Nairaland and .....................

i am wholly in support , all this disrespect must stop, no part of sw will be used to experiment this stupid one nigeria. Thanks for the reply

Lol!!!!! I am laughing at your ignorance. Go and study the history of India and Pakistan, South Sudan and Sudan and few other countries around the world. Like I said earlier, the momentum of getting you out of south west is gathering online and clandestinely offline, just watch out.

Your likes never expected Hausas/Fulanis to subject them to what they went through in the hands of hausas/fulanis in the 60s until Igbos pushed them to wall. We are even praying for the war to take place in Lagos so as to get rid of you and your likes forever(Back to your Eastern region)

If you fight your landlord from now till eternity, u ll be d one to leave his house either u like it or not.

Economically successful he said Jeez!!!! lol!! who? Igbos! Chaiiii! ..............With half of your brothers and sisters on our streets in South west, struggling to survive.

This topic is really self-defined Bro, pls ask me how or what do I meant by that? It's like a Nigeria citizens telling America citizens that Nigeria is more economically successful than America as a nation. Trust me, you might end up in prison for the rest of you life for making such statements. Look around the world and tell me how many US citizens do u see in Nigeria.................................

I just don't know what is wrong with people

So Chinese and USA citizens in Nigeria are not important again ..okay for Igbo to be in Lagos it means Lagos is more important

Bro we call it oversea economic colonization

We keep our first own economy in tact and take a big chunk of your own ..then we repatriate the profit after paying some paltry tax

You move in to places there is little competition and Lagos got that ..Igbo crush everything the land on from ICT to hospitality

Don't blame us bro blame it on nurture and nature

Talk is really cheap. How long does it take your brothers and sisters to disappear towards the East during Abiola riot, thinking Yorubas would vent their anger on them?

There won't be a war; it ll be a walkover

Yo-robber coward dishing empty threat gringrin
You're committed to avenge banjo's death ?gringrin
Do that by running into your street with kitchen knife stabbing any Igbo man you see on the streetgrin coward.
Common recruit soldiers beat your abiola to death and force your icon to take Otapiapia and you did nothing.
Northern soldiers occupy your region pre Nigerian-Biafran war and you bunch of coward did nothing.

Stop shouting like a market woman and commit your own revenge on the Igbos.

Bunch of cowards.

This reeks of Col. Ojukwu kind of playing god even before he would secure his own "territory." The letter is quite telling, and I consider myself fortunate to be able to capture it into my own archive here.

Thanks for posting, @OP.
