Taking into consideration factors like location, the company's structure, career prospect, etc I was always specific with 150k minimum. Turned out I would earn more than that on my first job.

That's gross emoluments. Plus all the allowances and bonuses. In 2011, I worked with a bank and the start up package was N3.4m
Before or after statutory deductions?

Lemme ask a question, how much do you think a new generation bank will pay graduate trainee currently?
Some pay as high as N2.8m net, and some as low as N1.6m net.

Well, it nice to see you aim high with big figures, but some of you are far from the realities on ground
Bank-90k minimum
Hospitality - (depending on the location) Island-70k Mainland 50k
Education sector - Mainland 60k, Island 120k
Health sector - depending if it is a clinic or a hospital, although some clinic pay more - 60k
Transport sector - 50k
Security - 60

If it is a one man business
Note: you are a fresher and have no experience except for multinational.
Una wey dey yarn 250k,by the time your shoe file ehn!
50k on the Island and 40 on the Mainland.

The question you should ask yourself before talking about the amount you will want is WHAT CAN YOU OFFER? As a fresh graduate many have little or no work experience. So to me if the salary can cover my transport, cover my feeding and at the end of the month i can still have something left while not forgetting the EXPERIENCE that comes with the job. That will determine my salary request, as i was in this position before and that is what i told them and quickly for me, I GOT THE JOB and the pay was good.

So never allow greed make you fail interview you have already passed because FRESH GRADUATE with LITTLE or NO EXPERIENCE dont have a full bragging right.

Gross salary of N3.4m will give you more than N140k per month, bro. You should have nothing less than 210k.

What's the point of gross amount when I don't get to collect it? undecided

I LIKE THIS!!!

I think the key here is placing a somewhat high Tag on yourself. THat way you get to distinctively evaluate your worth and try not to be over-priced. In simple english, you work and improve on yourself to match your " High Price Tag"

I might not employ a graduate that will settle for a 50K salary. The self worth isn't encouraging.

You mean 90K is the graduate entry level pay at Zenith?

That's almost equal the amount some banks pay their contract OND holders

That is why you need to enquire about a company before going for interview, even in our present world, you can tell how much shell or total can pay....hope you get me now...

that means you have not really place a price on yourself! What if the take home pay of the coy is not enough to take you home?

I really admire the figures people have posted for their first job, but the reality is very few persons start up with six figures salary. If the job can cover your basic expenses and little savings go for it cause employers that pay well most times seek experience hire. If you are waiting for the six figures job you might rust away and become unemployable cause employers will ask what have you been doing after graduation.

As a fresh graduate , never tell the interviewers an amount . tell them as it is on the company's payroll for your level . if you are further pressured , tell them you can come to an agreement after an offer has been made and that you are keen on developing yourself and adding to the company as you are being developed. its always a turn of for employers when fresh gaduates without experience starts talking money knowing fully well the company would be training and adding lots to you . This question is always a trap , there is nothing that will make them go above what they have on the payroll for entry level. So , Mr OP if you are still a seeker , never tell the a figure. you may ace other questions but I bet you will never get the offer if the interviewers are not ok with your answer to this question.
