The Minister of Health, Dr Halliru Alhassan on Thursday says Nigeria will be certified polio-free this January.

Alhassan disclosed this to newsmen in Sokoto while reviewing some of the activities of his ministry in 2014.

According to him, no case of polio has been recorded in the country in the last six months, and this qualifies the country to be declared polio-free in line with global requirements.

“This is because only six cases of the wild polio virus were recorded in the last six months in Kano and Jigawa states.

” This feat is a remarkable departure from the nearly 52 WPV cases the country recorded during the same period under review in 2013.

“With this happy development, we are optimistic that Nigeria will be completing the six months required to be declared polio-free by this month,” the minister said.

” The country has indeed made tremendous progress in ensuring the total eradication of polio and it would be sustained.

” The Federal Government would sustain these successes; we have eradicated Ebola and Guinea worm, and polio is on the verge of becoming history in Nigeria,” Alhassan added.
He further expressed happiness that the nation was recording massive reduction in maternal mortality through the support of the Milllenium Development Goals.

Good news. This shows that GEJ is working but some people have decided to be blinded to the reality on ground hence they result in spreading propaganda every now and then.

NIGERIA POLIO FREE. THIS JANUARY

That minister must be high on heroine or the likes.

There a hundred of kids in the north battling polio in the low standard hospitals available to the & one minister is claiming polio free Nigeria. Is this to impress Bill gates or the rest of the world? Cos I'm sure the minister is aware of the fact that Nigerians know he is lying.

Going by: the high level of illiteracy baring early treatment of polio.

: the low standard of public hospitals especially in northern states.

Did U guys really think this milestone is currently possible?

Ask Urself. Was there any newly introduced polio eradication program in Ur vicinity that can trigger an achievement like this?

This stunt is a fresh lie on monday morning & I'm surprised U guys are accepting the ZOBO with total belief.

Mehn, e go easy to sell ZOBO for these people oooo.

Yet people say nothing is done in the health sector. Someone is even saying it's propaganda when even Bill Gates has acknowledged the progress that Nigeria has had with regards to Polio. Some people are irredeemable.

Are Yobe, Bornu and Adamawa states polio free? How do you effectively immunise in a war torn area or collect statistics? Government had better wake and smell the coffee!
