atlwireles:Nigerians were eating their future under loans during Shagari regime, we were essentially not paying for the rice milk, sugar we were eating. We were not queing, why should you queue for something they want to use to enslave you. For IBB regime they were not queuing because the problem had been solved before he overthrew Buhari. Every knowledgeable person now knows that IBB' s coup was for self protection not for economic issues. He and Abiola basically did the coup to save their necks. Now that is a great lesson for Jonathan who is always afraid of people working under him. Bulgaria/Idiagbon were going to take IBB out and have and his boys were lucky to strike first. IBB was corrupted by the Shagari regime, they used to give him and his boys contracts and import licenses to settle him so that he does not plan coups. All temporary economic problems and SHORTAGES were already solved when IBB struck so there was no queue for basic commodities. |

The corrupt and wasteful government of Jonathan is a repeat of Shagari regime of that time and Buhari is here again- just like he was then- to the rescue. It's a divine rescue mission, FeBUHARI 14, 2015. Yes, Buhari's economic policy made him queue for a commodity he couldn't afford to buy earlier- for God's sake, this was a boy who didn't have shoe, buying milk. How many shoeless people can afford to buy milk these days? Jonathan wouldn't put corrupt people in crates, but would rather negotiate for exchange of prisoners like James Ibori- if he has the chance- and grant them presidential pardons. I support Buhari bringing back run-away corrupt politicians in crates after FeBUHARI 14. Electorates have made up their minds and most of them want CHANGE, so Jonathan should stop making a fool of himself with his campaign of calumny. |

Adminisher:Thank you for this post. These PDP guys are funny and it is either that they fail to understand simple economics or they are being economical with the truth. Buhari's regime tried to put up a barrier whereby Nigeria's manufacturing sector could thrive and develop well before opening up and competing against already developed foreign companies that would have blown our industrial base away as happened after Babangida took over. Today we are singing the praises of China and India but forgetting that they did exactly the same thing Buhari tried to do which is first of all, develop your base and market before opening up. If Buhari had not been overthrown, Nigeria today would have gone far. These PDPs are something else to behold. |

OLADD:They jail people 300 years sir. Madoff was almost 80 years and he got almost a century for financial offences. Pleas go to China and commit a financial offence, they won't jail you 300 years, they will take your life. The 53 suitcases issue was just a gimmick to sell newspapers. There was no Naira stuffed in them and it still reflects badly on the intelligence of people saying and Emir brought Naira to Nigeria when they changed currency. Th best thing would have been to leave it abroad. As for Buhari' s advice to Jonathan on defence. This two people meet regularly at the Council of States Meeting and some National Security meetings but take it from me that JONATHAN IS THE WORST COMMANDER IN CHIEF and Chief Security Officer any county could ever have. Let us get that quickly out of the way because he bh himself, the CDS and all other service chiefs (including especially the departed Ihejirika) with the exception of maybe Minimah are just a bunch of corrupt business men in uniform and they are actually likely to be defeated by Boko Haram. When you hear people say controversial things like this with confidence know one is doing so out of a sense of responsibility and good observation. |

SUBMARINE:It has been said that joining PDP tends to deaden the brain cells or what is left of it. Buhari's proposed goal would cost no more than $10bn and can be saved from cutting out corruption and reducing government costs which would when in the hands of the poorer stimulate economic growth because it would be spent on essentials. This is smart thinking. |
| Re: Economic Truth About Why Jonathan Queued For Milk In 1983!! by SUBMARINE: 2:18pm On Jan 09, 2015 |
StunningCEO:Olodo $10b is equals to almost N2tr Read my proposal again and you will see where I said such money, if Buhari has made up his mind to spend it, the best way to eradicate poverty is not be sharing it but empowering poor people to becoming small/medium scale industrialists. Read before you attack. |

SUBMARINE:Submarine, may your type remain submerged. I almost forgot that your Jonathan has caused the Naira to devalue to . In economics there is not one way to enter the market and like Yoruba people say - Ona kan o wo o ja. There is no oyinbo country in this world that does not do precisely what Buhari proposes and this would help not only stimulate the economy further but also reduce social costs such as crime, health costs. Think big. Mumu. |

Adminisher:You see am so o. Today china this, china that - Buhari was simply anti-corruption and was determined to eradicate it by all means rather than your crooked Jonathan. By the way, the story about the Emir is not true. There was at the same time as he arrived in the country, the arrival from Libya or so of the ambassador and his wives and kids and no money was inside. Liars. |

munex007:I know what is paining you- Goodluck performed well beyond your expectation. You have nothing to hold on because he actually said it as it is. As per the economy don't go there The naira was 0.79 to $1 when he came and when he left it was 0.89 to $1. Where did you get your figure of N2 to $1 from? Shows you didn't do your research well and you were only speculating. That leaves you with 17 % depreciation. That was because he stupidly made a decree against the possession of foreign currency while his cronies were doing so underhand More on the link https://www.nairaland.com/2055709/discussion-buharis-economic-policies-corruption He stopped profiteering? Buying at N6 and selling at N8 a mark up of 30% is profiteering? Buhari made people get out of business by this act because he forced them to sell a tin of milk at N4 when the cost price was N6 They were not going to take a foreign loan that was why he stopped the Lagos rail project. See the result in the present day Lagos. You would have killed Fashiola for borrowing to build infrastructure. If he is aversed to borrowing, he will stop all projects that are funded with borrowed money. Oh, I forgot he borrowed to buy presidential nomination form....yada yada bla bla Try another thing |

MalcoImX:The scarcity was not caused by shagari but by the government that did not empower the people to be productive but look up to the government for daily needs. If the manufacturers of those goods were in Nigeria would the goods be hauded? Almost all the goods were imported. What did the government the do in form of policy to attract investors? |

chernest2002:Your family business was involved in crimihal activity. You guys committed economic crimes and were greedy. Tell us how much taxes u ever paid to govt. We are just not serious in this country. Please be careful some of these laws are retroactive and you can.still be arrested for hoarding of goods. The young boys who are doing 419 sojetimes what they do is hard to prove as illegalities but we have locjed them up because they have riluined lives andbrought disgrace to Nigeria. |

atlwireles:I thought you will thank Adminisher for his efforts, instead all he got was insults. | Let me answer you in the language of bus-stop economics. During Shagari's regime essential commodities were scarce. You don't see soap, detergents, foodstuffs, etc. in the markets. The few available is beyond the means of the ordinary people. Businessmen hoard the goods in order to make higher profits. When Buhari came, these warehouses that hoard these goods were identified, opened and the goods sold at government controlled prices. People queued to buy these scarce goods at a price they can afford. That was where the "queue" came in. And for your information, the masses were happy and in some cases they were the ones who pointed out warehouses who hoarded the goods. | So, Buhari wasn't the one who caused the scarcity. He was just doing his best to correct a problem he met. |

jdilight:Please talk to any old member of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria MAN. They were working very closely withngivernments. I actually saw import licenses and Form Ms and clear categorization of importation into spare parts, manufacturing equipment and raw materials. All these were for a short time to get local manufacturing installed for all consumer goods. |

chernest2002:The reason for hoarding was to make a kill, profit-wise and probably that was what your daddy did. It is a crime (economic sabotage) to hoard, according to the government of that day. I can understand why you and your daddy were unhappy with Buhari. It was for these types of acts that the elites don't like him. But as a leader, you have to make policies and take decisions that you think will serve the general good. And surprisingly, many could not understand all the noise about Buhari. It is these same policies that adhered him to the populace. They know, ultimately when push comes to shove, he will protect their interests. |

Please do you understand what a free market economy is? Its policies like the one you are advocating that Maduro the former bus "conductor" is busy implementing in Venezuela, that is running down that economy. This is the 21st century and running an economy is way more complex than mere use of common sense alone. Tell ur oga to show his certificate then we can move on from there to his plans of stabilizing the oil price etc. MalcoImX: |
