@Tolutweety *I didn't bother bringing them because I wanted to learn from the process. I wanted everything to happen without me triggering or inducing. I wanted to see how people make decisions. I knew and still know Entry Level Salaries of Companies would have amassed a whole lot of nominations if I brought peeps on the thread. Maybe I would have done that if an Exxonmobil permanent job offer was the reward( I wouldn't have risked learning any bullshit grin)

*What ever I say now would have been campaign after election if and only if an Exxonmobil offer was attached.
*NNLG thread was created 28th October, 2013 and Entry Level Salaries was created 8th October, 2014. how come 2013 thread is contesting in 2014. The organizer didn't even consider that crucial issue.

Imagine Kukure collecting headies song of the year award in 2014

I wasn't aware of the discussion thread. If I were, I would have aired my views like a hungry baby.
if you were not aware of a thread that was pinned to the first page of this board then i wonder how often you visit here.. I voted NLNG thread because it was the crux of my being on here, i learnt a lot from that thread and met great minds.. The award was tagged JSA 2014 didnt necessarily means the start date is jan 1 2014.. The 2014 fifa world player of the year award set to be given out tomorrow puts into consideration events that happened between oct 2013 and oct 2014.. You should ask yourself when last the JSA award took place.. I am sorry to tell you but IMO your thread is not worth to be in the first 3 in the months in review..
@ mixty when you make suggestions like this kindly state them as your opinion and avoid the use of words like "ludicrous", is that the best you can come up with to encourage people that took out time to put two and two together? Because you think something is not right doesnt mean it is not right.. We joblanders are not zombies and a little fun from all the interview preps wont kill us.. Happy sunday all

I am trying not to engage in a discourse of what the best thread is?
I personally don't have a stake if any of the bolded wins.

But permit me to correct the following misconceptions :
_NLNG thread started in Oct,2013 like you rightly said
_Made front page same year...
_By March 8 2014 when the first test was held, it had over 200pages and was still counting...
_Nairaland Tsunami came and took a major part of the thread away and reduced the number of pages to barely thirty-sumtin pages (if my memory serves me right)
_It might interest you to know that the thread is still very much alive and might still be in contention for the best thread in 2015, COS THE RECRUITMENT OF '13 IS YET TO BE OVER. {if the recruitment is still on and the thread still alive,why then do you want to kill the thread's chance of making history}
_Only peeps who were on the thread can fully attest to the sweetness kiss of the thread.

_so stop this talk about this thread being created in 2013...PLEASE !

#Nuff said .

my comparism with the fifa award was because you stated the fact that the nlng thread was created in 2013.. I am saying that the 1 year period under review doesnt necessarily means it has to be from january opined with the fact that we lost 6 months of data... So the start date could have been october, november and december

@Mcpat & Tolutweety, it's been fun debating with you guys...

The peak of my concern is in the Description of the Thread of the Year Award. If not for the description, I personally wouldn't have nominated the thread in the first place. The whole description supports Entry Level Salaries of Companies in Nigeria.
Nevertheless, LET'S MOVE ON

Lets not be carried away by vain prattling, such discussions engender strife. The end result, a chasm between friends/acquaintances. The aftermath of an award will always generate germane questions from the aggrieved party, however, lets do a thorough catharsis of ourselves before we become inured to someone who meant no harm by coming up with this.

Olu.tola88, I understand your being effusive about the awards, and I can relate with you on a number of areas, but get control of yourself as the adroit dude I have watched closely for a while. Our true reward is not in encomium from men, but the satisfaction that you have done something positive for someone somewhere you haven't even met.

To those whom the idea of the award is a progeny of your thoughts, you are commended. Do not balk because of the turn out of events, these things are what shape us into what we eventually turn out to be.

I appreciate the nominations; Those who felt I even deserved to be nominated, I am inundated by joy to say the least. Thank you.

No words can express, No act of gratitude can relay & No gift can represent how indebted I am to you for the compliment. It's just the 11th day of the year, but I'm exhilarated to inform you that the adjective “Adroit” you used to qualify me has made my year already. It means more to me than the award.

Thanks a million Scrypt, Gracias Joblanders.
Olutola88 loves you all.

Good Afternoon, everyone.

Wow, what a turn of events. I appreciate everyone who has had an opinion. I understand all these are all in the intention of making these awards and ultimately the Section better and for this, We're grateful. It is however too late to put these considerations into effect and I hope you understand.
We had a thread for suggestions some time ago and I appreciate that some of us were not able to get our thoughts on there. It behoves us to be Eagle-eyed in things that should concern us whether on Nairaland or anywhere else.

Once again, thanks for your Suggestions, Criticism and Compliments.

Remember to vote for this night's awards.

Thank you

Oh, and by the way, I won an award yesterday.

Thanks to all who considered me worthy of that award.
I think it's nice that the mangled words out of my warped mind can somehow iron out its kinks and make sense to you.
I appreciate this fact and I do not take it for granted.
To all who were in this category with me, I learn from you even though you don't know it. Everytime.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to sip from the fountain of the words that emanate from your mind via your keyboard.
Y'all rule.

Thank you once again

NNLG Thread was created on the 28th day of October, 2013 and Entry Level Salaries of Companies in Nigeria was created on the 8th day of October, 2014. Are we talking about 2013 Awards or 2014 Awards? I need answers puleasssssssssssssssssse!
Stop crying over spilt milk. You should have raised all these issues before the award was given. You knew quite well that the NLNG thread was created in 2013 right from when it was nominated but you didn't raise questions on that. Even as the NLNG was created in 2013, it remains active and relevant till date which, no doubt corroborates it's worthiness for the award it has received. Now the award has been given based on opinion of the majority and I think you should respect that. This is democracy in which final decisions are reached with the consent of the majority. I had the knowledge of your thread before the awards but I nominated the NLNG thread. However, I had nominated you for another category. We all look but see differently so stop trying to force your opinion others

Mixty:
1. Some of the award categories are ludicrous This is a major flaw in the award process and I think this needs to be rectified with immediate effect. Job/vacancies section is one of the most visited and important section of Nairaland. An annual award for the section should be taken with all sense of seriousness and purpose. Some of the award categories are a slight to the prestige of Job/vacancies section, and they tend to whittle down the prestige and value of the whole award programme, making it all look like a fanfare rather than a valuable, prestigious and purposeful award. These are the ridiculous ones:

a) Best thread derailer:
b) Miss Dainty:
c) Mr Casanova: Read my note on Miss Dainty

d) Most handsome/most beautiful: This is also funny. When did Job/Vacancies section become an opportunity to show figure 8 and 6 packs? This total derails the purpose of the section and shouldn't have been a category at all. Dues respect to Ferdybaba and Jamean.

e) Most secretive joblander:

f) Funniest Moniker:

Personally, it is a slight to award winners for the above mentioned out-of-purpose categories while simultaneously awarding winners for more serious categories like most helpful Joblander, sense maker of the year, etc. IT IS A BIG SLIGHT TO SERIOUS WINNERS.

I personally suggest that these 6 categories should be cancelled with immediate effect. They serve no purpose. If at all they serve any purpose, they reduce the importance attached to the whole award process

To be continued....
I think you are taking this whole award like a job interview which in my respectful opinion is very wrong. The job/vacancy section of Nairaland is known to be a very dour and dull place. It is one of the most sombre sections on Nairaland visited by only serious and mostly unemployed people. Sometimes I wonder how this section will be without the presence of the chatroom. If we are serious 99% of the whole year can't we for once just take a few moment and do something out of the box via the awards. Immediately after the awards today everything goes back to status quo so Why should we have an award 'show' that looks like a funeral procession?( if we follow your idea)

About the categories, I think it is a fallacy to assume that beauty is limited to the romance section. There are people who are mainly active in this section and I think its just a way of appreciating them. Appreciation of beauty can be done anywhere. You said it derails the purpose of the section shocked Reallyhuh Again, I am really at a loss as to how giving out most beautiful/ handsome award takes anything away from or constitutes a BIG slight on J.arus who won the legend award for example. You make it seem like those in this section are robots and not human beings.
In any case, I think you can simply personally discountenance those award that you deem irrelevant and only grant your own due 'recognition' to the 'serious' winners.

I know the award as a whole might seem prolix but since this is the maiden edition it is to be expected. There will be improvements subsequently.

You mentioned the word serious and prestige about 30 times in ur post. Maybe we should just have an award where we can just be solving GMAT and SHL. Now isn't that serious? cheesy tongue

It would have been better if you were talking about the title rather than the description.
The description says the thread that made everybody take notice. Crucially It doesn't say anything about the thread only being created in 2014. In my opinion that award goes to the thread from which people gained or followed the most and it will be wrong to limit it to only those created in the year in question.
Personally the thread I gained from the most last year was a Kpmg thread opened in 2012. To me, that is my own thread of the year. If a thread opened in 2008 for one reason or another becomes relevant and is the most followed thread in 2015, why should it not win thread of the year?

The description is silent about the year of creation but rather talks about the impact of the thread so I wonder what your point is. undecided
