From experience, i've noticed that the longer the multis the weaker the punch.
In a battle it's best you keep it not too long. Just keep it moderate.

Different people with different taste.
Some judge the rhyme crit based on how long the multis are, while some focus on how technically perfect they are.

For me, i think if a nigga can do a 4syllabic rhyme scheme nd keep it clean, it's okay.
The rhyme crit is just to maintain rhythm.
What's the point of you rhyming 10syllables nd your punches are weak?

I wonder why we give seperate points for wordplay, for mets, nd for personals. And after these we still go ahead to give points for PUNCHLINES.
After all, w/p, mets, nd personals are what make up these punchlines.

I think we should have just PUNCHLINES nd DELIVERY as our battles decider...


This will give any battler the freedom to punch how he or she wishes.
It shouldn't be by force to wordplay, it shouldnt be by force to use personals. Nd so on.
Every individual have their specialty.

All i'm just tryna say is that, a punch is a punch. Be it wordplay, mets, pers.

E.g, if a Wordplay = a punchline
what's the point of awarding points for them seperately?
What's the point of awarding points for wordplay, then award for punchline again when you know they're the same?


There are times when one has so many punchlines. But you can't complete ur verse just cos you need to put some wordplays in it, or some pers. Nd so on. Nd this shouldnt be so.

I've also got an idea of battling that should be fun.

I get your point but everything I know about text battling today is from this section of Nairaland. When people give someone wordplay as a crit here, isn't it based typically on homophones?

I met the system that way... I met vets giving the wordplay crit to the battler with the most well hitting homophone... OK, show me one battle where someone won wordplay without homophones?

You used 'Tropics' .. 'Forest' .. then ended with 'Termite' and 'woods' in one bar and it was cool cos you centred the whole bar around one environment but I didn't see it as wordplay, I saw it as creativity(

If NL decides to introduce such imitative harmony as wordplay too and not only homophones then fine, I ll adjust and start voting that way, But If I were to decide, I wouldn't incoporate it into wordplay. I ll leave it under punchlines /metaphors cos puns and onomatopoeia are set ups that make the final delivery of a puch/met more wowing.... OR better still, we should create a new Crit for it..

Every type of diss will come under punchlines. Rhymes, flow, set-ups nd the verse's total packaging should all make up delivery...


Punchlines = 2points

delivery = 1point.....

Even voters will find it very easy to vote.


There should also be opener nd closer.... This will make battlers endeavor to start nd end their verses on high notes.

Thus we have

OPENER = 1/2 point

DELIVERY = 1 point

PUNCHLINES = 2 points

closer = 1/2 point....

Cos Most punchlines are made up of wordies, similes, mets, and puns..
Besides its not every time I would have a smashing wordplay but if I have a super simile then it should cop me the punchline criterium
That's why people force plays just to win wordplay crit and it shouldn't be so..cos Punchline should be voted as a single crit and not broken down to wordies, mets etc

Even thanmt Calabar/ thing you did is a wordplay .. Siddogg -- Calabar people eat dogs ..
its a name play and also a punchline

Its somehow when someone wins similes and mets crit and loses punchlines when similes are punchlines themselves ..
