this proves my assertion.
rooney only plays on the wing when there's a job to be done on the opponent's winger. he never played on the wing for his attacking flair - he was practically used there as a wingback to snuff attacks.....so why then do you think he can play as a winger now?

What about the league games he has played there? What about his many matches for England there, particularly before Capello took over.

I also had previously published his matches for us in the wing in 2005, but I can't lay my hands on the material now.

yes, it was a difficult away game in europe. rooney was asked to play on the flank to neutralise roma attack. ronaldo wouldn't track back & he was costing united - fergie then placed 2 bunnies on the flank.

in that game, rooney was only 22. he's now pushing 30.....why would you trust him to play as a winger right now when he's lost his ability to beat his marker consistently? rooney only played on the wing to stop attacks, not to start attacks.

mata can pass & retain possession.....rooney cannot. apples & oranges yet again. all the images you are uploading have no relevance to the assertion that rooney was effective on the wing attacking wise.

in 07/08 & 08/09 he was used to stop attacks against roma & barcelona. against chelsea(final) it was back to 4-4-2. even in some of the games where we played 4-3-3, it was a fluid front 3. they all had free roles - rooney, tevez & ronaldo combined well to do what's required.

he was used to nullify ally cissokho against porto. he was a defensive wideman - not because he was creative there. ronaldo stopped tracking back and we drew 2-2 at OT. each time ronaldo lost the ball, porto scored.

they are lies because even zonal marking(where you copied the images) said that rooney operated in a 4-4-2 against chelsea in the UCL final.

they also mentioned the fluidity in some of the games rooney played as a wideman. don't just copy images without copying the explanation. the roma game image showed ronaldo with 2 diagonal lines which means he was also drifting wide when rooney or tevez occupies his starting position.
