BraniacX:I know that your claim is false. I do not intend to engage in any childishness. This is quite a serious discussion. You came on and said MANY COUNTRIES SPEND FAR MORE THAN NIGERIA'S ANNUAL BUDGET X 3 years in ONE YEAR on agricultural subsidy. Generally National budget should mean just that NATIONAL but I am giving you some leeway and restricting myself to the FG budget which last year X 3 was about $78 billion. Now I am saying NOT ONE COUNTRY IN OUR MILKY WAY <NOT ONE> spends that much on agricultural subsidy but you are claiming that many do and even named them. So it is time to put up or forever.............. |

The idea of bannng rice and tomatoes is a silly one. I am sure in the fulness of time if the man wins wisdom will prevail. If the goverment really wants to discourage imports a more effective tool is Naira devaluation though this would tend too favour the wealthy. I do not particularly expect a president to be knowledgeable or a good economist. What is important is the capacity to set the direction,to choose the right team and to have the interest of the nation genuinely at heart. Where there are significant personal interests that conflict with national interest among key actors in any government there will be problems. That is likely to be the case whoever wins. Without necessarily criticizing Jonathan his team of the last 4 years has been a disaster. I think if he wins for Nigeria to really move forward he should consider getting close to half of his team from the other side. Nigeria is very divided right now and the primary job of any winner would be to heal. Any form of triumphalism could be disastrous. One problem Jonathan has is that he ,like many southerners, has not interacted with many northerners on a personal level though in his case I think his interaction even in the south was limited prior to assuming office and so when it came time to choose his team he was stranded. A typical example is his choice of Finance Minister,a decision probably made with his wife. |

BraniacX:I am banking? I am not a gambler? I come to this place to discuss ideas not myself.Whether I am a gambler or a fisherman is my business but more importantly is irrelevant You made a bogus claim which you have failed to substantiate and for me that is the end of that. I do not know what I have said to suggest I am banking on anything,I am not. If you did not comprehend what you read that is unfortunate. |

olas24u:No we don't import "toothpick". That was a line you heard when you were a kid and have since been too dumb and mentally lazy to confirm as an adult. By the way, if we did import toothpicks, what stops YOU from manuacturing them in your backyard and making a fortune? Dullard. |
| Re: I’ll Ban Importation Of Rice, Tomato If Elected –Buhari by Nobody: 3:43pm On Feb 03, 2015 |
crownprince102:If that is true, it is because people like you are too lazy and stup.id to make these things yourselves. It's not the govt's job to make you sponge and toothbrush. Go online and learn to make these simple things and sell! Dullards. What did you attend school for if you cannot create anything? Keep waiting for govt to build you toothpick factory. Umu onukwu. |

I seriously hate it when you guys come online to talk nonsense about issues you know nothing about. GEJ never lifted the ban on used clothes. The ones you see are being smuggled in. Same goes for stuffs like tyres. I can authoritatively tell you this cos as someone who is into the automobile industry, any time we receive containers from outside the country and customs end up finding items like rice, used clothes, tyres and all that inside, they delay the containers. You have to bribe them to allow them release the containers to you cos those items are contraband. I do not partake in bringing such things into the country though. At least from what I know goes on in the ports, these items are illegal. Shippers don't even declare it on their bill of lading so as to avoid the container from being seized. I wonder where you got the false information that you are spreading around. Nigerians should please learn to be enlightened about issues before spreading them around. From the little I know about importation of rice, you have to be adequately involved in local production before you can be licensed to bring a specific amount of tonnes of rice and the quantity being imported,is to augment local production. Anybody can't just wake up and start importing rice. olas24u: |

ROSSIKE:Don't mind these silly people. I have often heard this rubbish and I wonder if there are ANY factories in Nigeria at all. Even if it is a generator economy are there no other factors of production to give a competitive advantage. Is electricity the only cost of production. I have looked to buy many, many made in Nigeria items (because I feel they will be customised) even at higher costs but alas no one is even trying to make them. Same they said with telecoms, 'oh just provide phones for all Nigerians and watch our economy out of poverty'. The rest is history. Is it not the same Nigerians who don't pay their power bills and complain bitterly about the high cost of the little electricity they get (even though it is cheaper than fuelling generators) that will be wanting more. Abeg. Who believes that ish. They are just lazy, buck-passing, irresponsible reprobates. |

ie payments to farmers there is a significaant bureaucratic cost involved in spending and monitoring that money . We would NOT define the Ministry of Agriculture budget as subsidy in Nigeria either.
