Primary reason most Nigerians are Christians is the need to conform. Conform to an expected societal norm. For some, they'd feel out of place if they don't make church on Sunday; for others, it's their parents' religion and they know nothing else. They just do these things out of compulsion; you could say they are conditioned already, like Pavlov's dogs, to salivate at the slightest ring of the church bell. What more can it be?

If you found a modern-day Jesus, he'd probably be an atheist Charlie Hebdo cartoonist or an aid worker in Syria. This Palestinian Jesus was very much like that. Very unlike these modern pastors in their flashy suits and private jets, nor like the religion-obsessed Nigerian who would curse repeatedly at a helpless bus conductor who erred by stepping on him. Aren't most religious Nigerians very much like this?

Do you know what I think?

I think there are two reasons why people follow-follow without thinking and reflecting.

First, the way many Nigerians are raised, authoritatively.
They are not encouraged to think for themselves and it's a sin to question any authority. Parents are infallible even if they are far from it.

Second, the lack of high-quality education with teachers who encourage free, independent and critical thinking based on facts instead of sentiments.

I have no problem with religions, I have a problem with people who use them to do bad and to act like they are better.

I don't do commercial nonsense.

And I am not the romantic type of person.
