I would hear from two of them, whether my wife is at fault or not, sincere apology and plea for forgiveness for such violent/animalistic behavior would be mandatory.

Though I would not raise my hand on her, but would sternly condemn her action and reprimand her. I would also be on knees and beg my mother for forgives. It would also be a course of wisdom to ensure my wife receives scriptural counsels.

Nevertheless, it's worth mentioning that the most important person to me on earth presently is my wife. My family in which I am the head, is different from my mother's family whose headship belongs to my father. It's a great show of ignorance when I hear grown-up married men referring to their parents' family as theirs.

(1) she apologize to me ...cos she just disrepected me, by not coming to me first with the problem
(2) then she can tell me what mama did to her, to warrant a slap... after which she must apologize for slapping her first

..then we can now think of resolving the issue.

should she refuse to comply with the above,... end of marriage! not even open for discussion.
