Most of you like defending GEJ without even thinking,
Why didn't GEJ reduce there satanic allowances amidst dwindling revenues like President Yar'ADUA did during the meltdowns resulting in lower oil prices, but because his actually is what you mentioned above.
You don't get it: the President DOESN'T have such powers.

Pls read Section 70 of the Nigerian Constitution 1999 (as amended)....

Please check it out. Thanks.

God bless the OP,

Nigeria current government setup is too bogus and a complete waste of resources.

Imagine the amount this legislooters will share as severance package when an average Nigerian lives on less than $2 dollars per day.

If the 2.8Bn Nigerian Naira is invested in education or rather shared to the jobless Nigerians, how better will this country be?

I keep asking those castigating Goodluck Jonathan, is Jonathan the only person running the affairs of this country?

Apart from this severance package, the whooping constituency allowance collected by the legislators are unaccounted for and nobody in their constituency is demanding accountability.

What justification do we have for this wastage?

We have painted black white for a long time in this country, it’s time to rise and call spade a spade, enough of wasteful government, enough of rotating leadership position among the same class since 1960.

May God heal Nigeria and give wisdom to those that requires it.

Shalom!
Capable of causing tears.

But seriously, the waste is too much .

I tell you. I also share this sentiment! The Independence came way to early, plus we weren't prepared and mature enough to engage in the demanding and arduous task of building a nation worthy of standing for decades, if not centuries. Our leaders thought Independence was the same thing as building a great nation through selflessness, visionary leadership, focus and determination.

Politically, we, especially the masses, are not well aware and alive to the massive power we wield. Our lazy looters understand this, and are utilising it fully to their advantage.

It rather sad and depressing that threads like this are very unpopular. Reason is simple: the average Nigerian runs away from threads that demand critical thought, sound arguments, and dispassionate matters. They will rather grace threads that spread violence, division, partisan politics, and celebrities gists.

It's on issue as this one concludes we are not ready for the needed change. All the so called change matter na emotional appeal.

The national assembly is one of the greatest hindrances to our development as a people. Till we watch them bumper to bumper, and occasionally protest against them, we are on a long thing. There's no reason whatsoever what these thieves should earn the jumbo pay they do earn. IIt's an insult to the Nigerian workers!
We just aren't and will never be ready and to think the minimum wage is barely 20k while house members who won't even sit for the total number of times they are meant to get to cart away over a million bucks as basic pay and you wonder why a teacher will want to put in his maximum or a health worker when he or she knows what the govt pays barely even covers transportation for that month...youth corpers getting peanuts monthly for service to their fatherland while some big belly agbada wearing psychophany earns millions and and comes during election and shares 1k to attend his rally..No wonder to you hear someone has been in the the chambers since 1999 and you begin to wonder what that person kept there that he/she keeps wanting to go back

While we are busy looking for Buhari's certificate or calling GEJ clueless(amongst other things), I really believe we should call for the reduction of the salaries of these people at least by 80%.

How can we start?
yes truly I've been asking this question for a long time. Sanusi's revelations must not be swept under the carpet. We can by protest, just like other countries did, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Egypt against their parliamentarians. But we need to mobilize peeps for this kind of thing, Nigerians are too docile #theslaverymuststop

I say we start an internet movement to reduce the income of a Nigerian senator by at least 90%
Not just their salaries but their allowances as well
They DO NOT deserve to earn as much as they do.

The "official annual salary" or whatever mentioned here is only a tiny fraction of their official income when "allowances" of ridiculous proportions are calculated.

If Nigeria as a nation CAN NOT afford to pay its lowly civil servants minimum wages equal to that of the United States, then they will need to explain exactly why the rules change drastically for so-called "law makers" who only make laws that line their pockets with public funds.

We HAVE to do this NOW, and question these rogues.
we need patriotic Nigerians to initiate this movement, without fear or favour, not just online, but also in reality ( on ground ) .

Their progressiveness is only to attack Jonathan, call him clueless and incompetent and never to address the injustice being done to Nigeria citizens through this their criminal self-settlement.

I had expected all APC Senators and Honorable Members to give a descriptive documentary of how they disbursed the constituency allowance collected on behalf of the people they represent.

- Bola Tinubu wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, representing Lagos Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly being the wife of the leader of APC should come out and point to the fruits of the constituency allowance this past four years.

- I expect all APC Senators & Reps to follow same and tell us their achievements especially in Lagos the HQ of APC.

If this legislooter decides to go ahead and pay themselves this severance package then the 1999 Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution, which requires the lawmakers to sit for a minimum period of 181 days in a year will be violated

Investigations carried out by the National Mirror already revealed that members of the House of Representatives only sat for 57 days, while the senate on its part has sat for about 78 days.

Therefore, a proration of the severance package is required base on the number of days seated. i.e. House of Reps should be paid using 57/181 x the total payout, amounting to 31% while the Senate should be 78/181 x the total payout, amounting to 43% any other formula or attempt of 100% payment is tantamount to fraud and daylight robbery.

God bless The Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Shalom!

These guys have continued to take us for fools, no little thanks to our political naiveté, division, docility and indifference.

Kudos to the good work by National Mirror. If these touts accrue such money to themselves, in the face of this constitutional breach, then we are finished.

These guys need more scrutiny and lampooning than the President!

Poor National Assembly members. Some of them will curse their parents because of money. However, their own share of national cake is far less than the 9.3 billion naira Jonathan and Ngozi-Okonjo Iwealla approved for the purchase of cooking stoves for rural women. How foolish can a world bank trained fraudster called Ngozi-Okonjo Iwealla and the Otueke fisher man be. Most of these fraudsters will spend hundreds of years in prison when Buhari finally takes over, if you doubt me ask Jim Nwobodo that stole money not enough to buy a Peugeot (apology to our thieving president).
