Thanks for your reply. Did you apply for the passport after you received the birth certificate?

Yes. Without the birthday certificate there is no processing of passport or visa for your baby.

I also went that route of apartment search in phoenix from 9ja but nothing tangible came out of it, almost in all the cases you will need a social security number to be able to rent an apartment,So my advice to you is google intown suit or extended stay that is close to the hospital and make a reservation on booking.com,you dont have to pay a kobo untill you get there. And after you get there if you still decide to look for an apartment ,you can now do that while you are on ground

Hello house! Congratulations to bj2012golf and bbaby84 on the birth of your babies. May God bless your families. Thanks to all that have contributed to the growth of this thread, may God bless us all. I also want to share my experience, as is the custom here. Please pardon the long post.
I applied for a visa with my mum and must say that the Favour of God was upon us all the way. The interview was in Abuja and transcript is below.

Vo: are you pregnant? where in the US are you going to and why?
Me: yes. Houston, for childbirth.
Vo: any Dr's correspondence? How did you discover them and why the choice of that Dr and or clinic?
Me: yes. I made inquiries on the internet and contacted different Doctors and hospitals in different states but most of them said I could only register and get the information in person when I get into the US. I needed to know the cost implications of pre and post partum care in the US so I could be prepared. When I contacted Dr F.F of oakbend, he gave me a breakdown of the cost and by email too, also enabling me have something to present to the Vo.
She asked to see the email correspondence and I gave it to her.
Vo: what's your budget for the trip?
Me: about $23k all inclusive for my mum and I.
Vo: bank statement?
Me: I gave her hubby's statement and she said she wasn't satisfied today that we could afford the cost because what was in the account wasn't enough to cover the cost. I told her she was mistaken as the funds in the account was more than double the amount budgeted for the trip. She then asked when last I was in the UK after going thru my passport and I said mid 2014.
Vo: how long do u plan to stay in the US?
Me: 3months.
Vo: visa approved, come back in 2days for your passports.

POE: Houston IAH, the queue was unbelievable but because I booked wheelchair service for my mum, we were wheeled to the front of the queue and attended to immediately.

Cbp: why are you here?
Me: for childbirth
Cbp: where will u stay and for how long?
Me: shadowbrooke Stafford, for 3months.
Cbp: do u have more than $10k?
Me: yes
Cbp: any food,fruits or drink?
Me: yes to only food such as garri...
Cbp: oh, that's fine. Will send u to agriculture but ensure you get all your papers when next you are here else you will be turned back. I said I understood. We were stamped in for 6 months and wheeled to agriculture for scanning of our luggage. That was it. In all, being truthful and having God's favour granted me victory in my endeavour.
Thanks also to Tvegas, Sayoberry and Bj2012golf for their contributions/assistance in my journey to victory. God bless.

Congrats to the new mums and dads in the house.

Would like to share my interview experience.

My wife, son and i had our interview at the Abuja embassy recently and had our visa application granted

Below is the transcript:

VO: Where in the US are you going?

My wife: Kathy Texas

Vo: who would you be staying with

My wife: a relative

Vo: relative? Mother, father, sister.......

US: uncle.....distant uncle

VO: how long has your uncle been there?

Us: hmmm...( hesitating) he's been there for a while, say over 10Yrs

Vo: you do not know how long your uncle has been there?

My wife: he left the country when i was a child so i cant remember exactly when but he has been there for over 10yrs

Vo: what other countries have you visited

My wife: Dubai

Myself: Uk, etc

VOsad turning to me) what was the purpose of visit to the UK

I explained to her

Vo: where do you work

Self: xyz

Asked me some random questions about where i have worked, some technical terms in the line of my specialisation . typed a few things on her system and asked us to come pick up our passports some days later.

My advise to everyone is to be truthful. We werent even asked our purpose of visit eventhough, my wife and i planned to state that we were going to have our baby and we went along with all our documents.

My wife and i felt a bit uncomfortable that our purpose of visit was not asked and we didnt want to have problems at the POE when we say we are in the US for childbirth, we decided to send an email to the embassy stating that we feel our purpose of visit might have been misconstrued as visiting our relative due to the line of questioning and that we would like it to be on records that childbirth was our purpose of visit.

The embassy replied us saying our B1/B2 visa permits us to have our baby and seek medical service in the US, all that is required is prove to the officers at the POE that we can pay our bills, show prove of correspondence with a Dr. In the Us and obtain a receipt of payment of all services obtained

We now look forward to the trip. I will be posting a few questions later in the week.

Thanks

Since you won't be paying a dime, don't you think it's wise you book for the 3 months so you know that's covered and won't have to look for stories to tell if that becomes an avenue for doubts and questions for the VOs at the embassy.

You can only book for one month or less online,.when yoy get there in person you can now extend your booking
I will advice you to use your name to make the booking, since you are going ahead of them. You can also make a diffrent booking for them too based on their dates of arival

This is what I traveled with but pple have different opinion:

- Deboned dry fish packaged inside zip
- stock fish

Tnx Sis for listing.
Pls, must the dried fish be deboned cos I have read abt a lot of people saying deboned fish.

@ House,I read abt some travelling with red oil, does it mean that frozen red oil is allowed if seen and at what point should one declare these food items?
