lomomike: Lol at medicine after death but true. I remember recently when I replaced the door handles on my car, all the doors had airbags in them. I had to warn the man sternly to be careful so the airbags don't go off. |

blackfm: Like lomomike said, its medicine after death. Your airbags have been deployed already. Even that of the driver's side which you think was replaced by the previous owner before selling it to you is simply useless and only serves an ornamental purpose, if I must say. Replacing a deployed airbag will be costly and require the expertise of the manufacturers of the car. I stand to be corrected though... |

uboma: In my opinion a replacement SRS is an easy fix as long as the replacement is not expired. The drivers side seem to be plug and play while the front passenger SRS is not aesthetically easy to fix in most recent cars. One may have to buy a whole dash complete with an undeployed airbag. Besides, the SRS warning light is there to tell if there is a SRS system malfunction or not. |

adanny01: Bro, its easy on some car models because of fewer replacement parts, and difficult in some others. However, it is a very delicate job. Remember, airbag modules are easily explosive in nature! |

nissparts: It has about 200,000 miles on it. I dunno whether the tranny fluid has ever being changed before but a physical inspection of the bolts on the exhaust pipe and the tranny pan suggest it has not.. Is it possible to use diagnostics code to know if its due for change? Also is there anywhere I can change it in Lagos? |
Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by adanny01(m): 4:35pm On Feb 01, 2015 |
lomomike: I agree that it is easy in sime cars but so difficult on others. Like i said before the drivers airbag is the easiest replaceable airbag in which you could buy even the whole steering which will definately cost less than the full dash. If i remember well, i watched an episode on Mythbusters about the explosive nature of these airbags. The myth was something like you are saying but cant get it exactly. The myth that airbags could be deployed without an accident that is below the airbags designed G-force and speed was busted. You would less likely manually deploy an airbag without its sensors getting the minimum requirements. Unless an electrical signal by the SRS control unit exactly equal to that which the G sensor will cause a deployment is sent to the activator which is less likely to happen by wrong wire connections. What i am saying in summary is, you need 3 scenrios to deploy an airbag 1. A crash that reaches the designed G-force + speed 2. System failure as a result of bad activator switches or control units which most likely, the problem will be known and a recall would have been made by the manufacturer. 3. Tempering or modifications. On the third one you may say, there is a posiblity but i think only a fool will attempt to modify what he has no idea about. Those who modify are professinals and do it in controled environment but in Nigeria am sure 90% of Nigerian drivers care less if the air bag works or not as long as it doesnot alter the car aesthetically. Its common practice for electricians to remove SRS light bulbs on the instrument cluster. I remember seeing Adams physically abusing those airbags. |

Normally I wouldn't purchase an accidented car but I know the previous owner and also know the extent of the damage when the accident happened. It was a passenger side impact at a T junction which took out the bumper and headlamp with little damage to the vehicle frame and these were easily replaced. I wouldn't have dealt if the damage was extensive. lomomike: |

The SRS light is actually on so I guess the sensor is fine. Its just a matter of replacing the airbag adanny01: |

blackfm: In my car, if i unplug the connector from the seat belt latch, SRS light comes on permanently. So i believe there is a relationship there too. |

Hello My 2002 Volvo v70 automatic has some issues: Hard starting:, it takes two times to get the car started, and sometimes when the engine is hot this doesn't happen Slow acceleration: it takes time for the car to get going despite pressing hard on the pedal, and when it picks finally and struggles through the first and second gear, the movement becomes smoother Hard to pick up while using ac: when the ac is on, the car seems heavier for the engine and accelerates more slowly Please oga GAZZUZZ, any ideas on what might be the issue |

My Oga, Please advise is needed. I refilled my car's(Toyota Camry 2001 V6) AC refrigerant last week Wednesday around 4pm and it worked well till night when i parked car. The following day around 12pm when i wanted o leave the house, i put on the car AC and all that was hitting me in the face was a very hot air. I went back to the guy who did the refill and he detected that there was no freon in the system again,as in it was completely empty. He said there is a leakage somewhere probably due to the fact that it took long for me to get the system refilled. He then took me to his boss, who also said there is a leakage but i should first go and steam wash the car's condenser to remove the dirt so that we can trace where the gas is leaking from. Few weeks ago, i noticed cold breeze(like the kind of breeze coming out of a freezer) from the 2 middle vents, though the Ac was still blowing cold then. What could probably have been the problem? I don't want try and error work on the car, i have been checking the internet to get more info on this as well. Opinions from other experts in the house are also welcomed. Thanks |

Good job GAZZUZZ realy appreciate ur work, have been an observer for a while jst got a camry 03 model (aka big daddy) the issue I'm having is that the noise the car makes when I'm making a turn or apply the brake, also the power steering gets a bit stiff once in a while have check the power steering oil and is well topped but when I open the bonnet I notice a bit of oil spill from the container of the power steering, but my main problem is the noise coming from the trye area and is kind of wobbles a bit when driving on the road except is a very smooth road, the previous owner informed me the legs of the car was changed the back and from don't know if that might be the issue I recently drove through a very horrible road for about an hour and the noise became worse, I don't know if I can get contacts of a specialist in that area so I can solve the leg problem once and for all, will realy appreciate ur response, and other members from the forum appreciate ur response. |

Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by blazetitov: 11:21am On Mar 03, 2015 |
blazetitov: UPDATE Well, Let me start by thanking God who saved me from incurring N33K abnormal expenses and also not losing my OEM compressor and drier and some other parts. Got a contact on Nairaland, went to the company, the system was refilled with refrigerant so that we can trace the leak and their AC technician said my compressor is leaking and we will have to change it and the drier. Total cost 33k. I left the place thinking of how to factor that sum into my budget. As i was getting to my street, i decided to take the first advice to steam wash my condenser which was sincerely and extremely dirty. To my surprise, since that Saturday (22/2), the system came back alive like a miracle happened and it has been cooling since then(still checked last night becos i don't take the car to work during the week). I honestly have been try to decipher what went wrong. Apart from my dirty condenser, maybe the AC guy that did the initial refill used a bad refrigerant as well. I tried to change the cabin air filter last night but i couldn't get around the glove box. I will take it to the AC guys in my area on Saturday to determine if the right amount of gas is in the system. Question: Do one need to ever refill a cars refrigerant if there was no leak in the first place. |
