When the righteous are in power the people rejoices, Fashola did not only review lower the school fees of students in LASU but have gone a step further to refund the fee paid by students in those sessions.

I don't need a soothsayer to tell me the life of an average Nigerian will be better under an APC government because its hard for a State government anywhere in Nigeria to pull this through not with dwindling revenues and the austerity period prevailing in the country.

Kudos fashola, Lagos State indigenes and especially we Ikorodu sons and daughters will perpetually be grateful to you for the giant strides you recorded in our domain.

Hypocrisy is when you're shouting the refund is political yet you wish you or your younger ones were beneficiary of such a largesse.

pendy79:
SEVERAL months of tireless agitations and protests by students of the Lagos State University (LASU) Thursday yielded result as the state government began a refund of tuition fees for 2013/14 session.

The refund was an aftermath of school fees’ review by the government after students protested the initial high tuition.

Following the release of N209 million to LASU, in the first tranche of refund, the school authority began issuance of cheques on Thursday. The refund ranges from N63,000 to N300,000 per student.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Fatai Olukoga and Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. John Obafunwa, among others, were at the LASU Main Auditorium to present the cheques to some recipients.

The recipients, 5,031 in total, were 100 Level students and 200 Level Direct Entry students.

While the names of only a few were called to receive cheques, many others who were expecting theirs walked out in disappointment because they did not hear their names.

The authorities, however, gave assurance that all students would eventually get theirs when the government pays the N89 million balance of the refund.

Olukogan, who represented Fashola, said the money released was N209 million and the remaining would be released later. He added that government was committed to ensuring the wellbeing of the students, even though LASU remains the institution that charges the lowest fee in the country.

According to him, when the government reversed the fees, many people dubbed it as a political move that would not come to be. “We have proved them wrong,” he said.

Fashola, in his speech read by Olukoga, noted that the government was not unaware of comments from critical stakeholders that had made a mockery of university education in the country through the low school fees.

“We are also not unaware of the moves by the same stakeholders to frustrate our efforts at ensuring the quality of LASU programmes.

“Notwithstanding the frustration, we are relentlessly committed to making LASU a world-class university of our time.

“Information at our disposal reveals that initial computation of excess money to be refunded to 100 level and 200 level Direct Entry students for 2013/14 academic session stood at N209.874 million.

“However, following the release of the fund, the university management later reported a shortfall in the computed excess money to be refunded, particularly to those in 200 level to 400 level,” he said, adding that the shortfall would be released after the reconciliation exercise is over.

Obafunwa said that 5,031 students were supposed to have their money refunded in two tranche and N209 million had been released for disbursement in the first phase of the exercise.

According to him, some people thought that it would not be possible to get refund of the money from the state government, but such people had been put to shame.

“What some people thought was impossible, we are witnessing it. Some individuals try to take advantage of the slow pace of the refund and kept on saying that government or management has no intention of making the refund,” he said.

Obafunwa stated that the management of the school went through rigorous process to ensure that the fund was released for disbursement to the students

this is freedom to democracy, it means we have a governor who has listening hear and has done the needful... Like i have always advocated the right to free education up tertiary level is sacrosanct. Anyway it now remains for the federal government to refund the 1000 naira they collected from unemplyed Nigerians and sack abba moro as a way to appease those who lost their live in the shoddy immigration exercise.

My advice to all lasuites, please kindly collect your refund but ensure you vote out this present govt (APC)...cos I am absolutely sure that the govenment has nothing (I mean absolutely NOTHING), to offer the Insitution in it's next two tenures (if elected). If u listen to Fashola's defence of the hiked fee few years back you would understand me better...ELSE be prepared to for zero development n stagnancy in ur institution for the next 8years.

seriously is it that you dont know that this is just gimic to get votes from students? Fashola that enjoyed free university education in uniben that could be so heartless to raise school fees from 25k he met to over 300k?. Was his plan to create almajeries in lagos? Besides even with the iincrease there was no commensurate improvement in infrastructures or quality of education. Because of elections he now reduced it. What do u think will happen if apc wins? Atleast goodluck did not increase school fees of federal universities. UI from what I hear charges 25k. If God forbid apc wins I can assure you that federal universities will charge 500k minimum! Then u will know how far

Lagos state was compelled to refund the excess fees already paid upon reduction of school fees.
Fashola once said, "university education is not for the poor". But in his now chosen career, he realized his success is largely dependent on the goodwill of the very poor he denied education. What a life!
I can tell you that Lagos state is highly bittered with this development, its just the elections that make them stoops to conquer. I can bet you that, if they return to power, (God forbid) the tuition fee will again escalate than what it used to be, and the respect they will accord the students is, justify the increament. You either comply and pay or utilitize the open option, withdraw.
Thank God for the elections not APC.

where was fashola when the fees were arbitrarily raised in the first place

Who refunds the moneys of ex-undergraduates who graduated under the exorbitant pricing regime

What about those former LASU students who had to drop out due to inability to pay their school fees Is a monetary value going to be set on their disenfranchisement and paid to them in compensation undecided

fools thinking themselves crafty undecided forgetting the only ones being fooled are themselves.....................and of course, fashola's govt isn't taxing junior WAEC candidates to cough up N10,000 each now is he? No, he'll just refund it afterwards and have you clap and tapdance in gratitude whenever he feels the heat turn up on him on that account

worst part is, this is same fashola who enjoyed free education at my alma mater UNIBEN where as of right now, school fees per session is an affordable N14,500 in comparism with LASU'S bogus fees while being 10 times better equipped, staffed and ranked at same time.
