can somebody help me out am really confused am about to round my HND program in electrical/electronic egnr.(telecommunication option) and regarding what I have been hearing about hearing the discrimination between HND an Bsc holders my question I should I go ahead to further for a degree program which will cost me extra years or should i go for PGD to masters please somebody who is highly inclined should help me..I want to go fully into telecom. please I would b very appreciative to any source of advice

Don't fret about your HND. I've seen many hnd holders who are bosses to bachelors degree holders. After some years, your first degree will not count as much as your experience. Just get a job and get requisite experience, that's what matters in the telecoms field as well as other fields.

Yes. Like any other industry. A statistician can work in business intelligence, market planning, geo-marketing, business planning, Sales Planning, even HR.
If you know your onions as a statistician you can work anywhere.

Job/work situation in Nigeria hardly gives people enough time for anything else, except weekends most times.
Most people would love to build an additional income source but timing is the problem.
I just found a way we could build an additional unlimited income source, part time even while we are at work.
interested? send me a message.

Thanks AjanleKoko for your insight, let me quickly point out something as regards ericsson, for freshers, they take mostly first-class graduates and put them in a management-trainee program.
Before now, i worked in a telecomms firm in the NOC department with the cisco routers, billing servers and internet gateways, there i was a junior sys admin. Now I work in an ISP providing services using licensed RF/Vsat providing VPN links to corporate organisations and public institutions etc.
I'm the senior sys admin also working in the NOC in charge of our Backbone infrastructure and all of our production and application servers(hardware/software).
I took a course in telecomms last year/this year and i must say it's a very interesting field for me. I'm looking at taking a more comprehensive course in telecomms in India(5months course, cheap and good lecture delivery) because i really have a passion for it but i'm currently torn between going to india and forfeiting my current job. My employers are unwilling to grant me a 5month leave of absense even without pay so it's a difficult decision to resign and start job hunting 5 months later when i'm back in Nigeria.
I'm currently being wooed by a lucrative career as an SAP consultant i'm currently making enquiries and spending lots of time in the NL "About SAP" thread. Now i know that tough decisions make a Man. cool

Can you pls add more info as regards the India package.. She's

good day people, I just graduated and just started my service year, I studied computer engineering in school and by God's grace came out with a second class upper, though I have pretty little idea in A+, but right now I'm a little bit confused on what certification could be most reasonable for me and at least guarantee me quick enough employment. I would be really happy if someone could advise me on what to do during my service year and after..I am so confused and really need your advice, thanks in advance.

From the little I know about networking and Cisco and I stand to be corrected. You can develop yourself without going to field. Why not pick up GNS3 and Cisco materials or if u have the chance to purchase some hardware especially switches and get your hands dirty on your own developed lab while waiting to get a field experience. If you want that then apply for a job.Thanks.

There is nothing like Hands-on-experience,there is nothing like working with Live routers and switches, there are some knowledge/skill,that you can only develop from experience.

Yes I agree with you. But tell me is it possible for you to work on live routers carrying live traffic of Gbps without any knowledge about it before. I doubt if that will be possible.

You are right. Without having some levels of knowledge (which comes with self-study e.g GNS3 and etc) you MIGHT not get the chance(or opportunity) to work on live gears for fear of incompetence and disruption of critical traffic flow.

By the way, I've worked with a major ISP here in Nigeria, so I'm not assuming.

Greeting to everyone on this thread..... I'm thinking of taking a training on bss/microwave active and passive devices installation and management. I tried asking some friends but didn't get much from them.... Last week I checked out a company that specializes on it, but they say its gonna cost me a whopping 150K.....
Anybody got info on where I can get this training @ an affordable prize? (I just completed my nysc and need some real adventure... Don't wanna sit down with tv @ home)

my advice, don't spend that much on training that won't give you a recognized certificate.

companies recognise IT certification CCNA,CCNP,MSCE & co

unless you are sure of a job as a bss/ microwave engineer

be very careful, a lot of training companies lie ,

they will promise internship or jobs ,but at the end of your training they will tell you stories.

years back I attended an interview for NOC engineer at mainone I was shocked they had never heard of TTC mobile before.(if only I had my CCNP then)

Yes, their training is good . but without a job ?+

if I was you , with 150k go for ccnp/msce/ ccna SP or data centre or any vmware based cert training & do the cert exam.

go for training get hands-on experience with real Cisco devices . firewall, IDS, IPS systems

right now I dey find money to do either CEH or CCNA security.

Hi Guys,

I'm kinda new to this thread but not new to CCNA.
If anyone is interested to join a study online group for CCNA/CCNP please hola back. I'm planning to start a Cisco Study Online Group with a couple friends.. they are both CCNA certified and are preparing for CCNP R&S.
I'm not a Certified CCNA(yet) but I'm thoroughly versed with CCNA v1, I did the CCNAX training last year but I got busy with college and I couldn't do both as I major in core subjects. I'll be on a 2 months holiday (sometime in April) and afterwards writing the CCNA Exam.

If you'd like to join for hours of labbing, and studying together. Then quote and comment on my post... and let's start some fire!

P.S: We'll be doing video trainings and screensharings like Google Hangouts and other web apps; you'll need a reliable internet connection

Hi everyone,
I am ne to this thread, and I really enjoyed reading all comments in this unique thread. I am kind of a beginner in the telecoms field in terms of practical work experience. I have Bsc and Msc degrees that are telecom related. My question will be, what should be the next best move for someone having two degrees already. Should I seek further training and development, or should I try the labour market and develop gradually.(on the job training). Thanks

Decided to put a thread out there for professionals who work in telecoms, geographical location notwithstanding.
Are you an engineer, accountant, project/program manager, finance/business planning/marketing/regulatory/IT or CRM professional, or in whatever area, but work specifically in telecoms?
Do you work in in a fixed, mobile, IP operator? Or are you working for a vendor/service or solutions provider, or in consulting, specifically in telecoms?

Like I said, geographic location not particularly relevant, let's meet up and share experiences.
