larion: ebariba, wc country is dt? It seems d technology is coming earlier dan i imagine, even 3G is still in roll out phase for some country n network, wonder wat n how d 3G operators will cope with competition as ds technology (LTE) will kill price n with amazing quality

In 2013, LTE roll-outs will continue to be ongoing year-round globally. But 3G (WCDMA, HSPA+) will still be the dominant revenue-generating cellular technology for operators in most parts of the world (even with LTE availability), until a majority of subscribers get on LTE-capable devices and compatible SIM cards.

Good day all, I am a 400level student of electrical elecronics engineering, I would be going for internship by the end of next month. But would actually appreciate it if I could get a placement in a telecoms firm and what proffessional exam I would need to take in other to build a career in that field and how to maximise this internship period.
I have basic skill in cisco netwoking.

@bybj,

For me, three things are important:
1) Will I enjoy the job?
2) Does it pay better than my present job?
3) Does it have a better job security?

Now, if I get at least two answers in the positive for the questions above, then I can take the job. If not, forget it. And from what you wrote, I will not take the job.

bybj: Hey Folks;
It is a pity this thread has lost a bit of the vigor that it started with.
Learned quite a lot from this thread which helped define my career path.

I need your sincere opinions on another important decision I need to make in a couple of days.
Over an eighteen month period; I have worked with two of the biggest Telecom. SBCs/Consulting firms
in the country. I have gathered valuable experience in Radio network planning and optimization.
The journey has been rough but I can say I am a bit comfortable where I am currently.
I got an offer to work(on contract)with the biggest telecoms. hardware vendor in the country recently.
The Pros: 'Career-defining Experience on a new platform'
The Cons: No Job Security, No weekends/Leave, Reduced A.Income.

Pretty confused at the moment. Please advice folks. If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

What's the duration of the contract, and by what percentage is your income reduced?

Balance that with the perceived value of what you are going to learn. Is it something you would have paid to go study?

That should help you make your decision.

....biggest telecom hardware vendor in d country, u r talking "who are we" ? If dey r d one, mate Don't even think b4 making ur decision , jump in, anybody serious with gaining on d job telecom experience in Nigeria has only one place to b....."who are we" , dose 'china men' v taken ova n r moving @ d speed of light, joining dem will advance u faster so for now forget d sbc dt do only drive test....hop into "who are we" n do everytin n anytin, as for d contract tin, dats how dey do, mayb 1 month mayb 2, mayb 5 yrs but if dey eventually drop u after contract, u can go back to Jr sbc or anoda one and continue ur drive test, dey will gladly take u as long as u knw ur stuffs , plus u now v "who are we" on ur cv wc dey will respect. Dis is telecom, Don't forget to keep studying ........all d best dude!
