I'm still an african to be precise nigerian, no forming, I might just stand out of the pack in the eatery while others are forming Behind
However I would have to be very carefull while eating

Op first of all, I don't know who orders eba on a first date.

Having said that, I don't see anything wrong in using your hands in eating eba.
I think what matters is the manner in which you do it.

Some people use their hands, but they use it gawkishly, licking all their fingers and all that. And when they are done, one would think a dog just finished eating
On the other hand others would eat with their hands but still eat neatly and laboriously.

One thing one should consider on a first date is the concept of transparency. You should just be yourself. Its more fun that way.
There is no point "forming"

I really do not know how to 'form' with cutlery at eateries even on a first date. For me, forming cutlery and all that connotes a learner.

First impression matters a lot. I'll eat something that am comfortable with...something like fries, pizaa...I don't want to worry about soup trickling down my fingers.

Well, if I order such, I'll wash my hand, get comfortable and eat. If she doesn't like that I ate my local dish with my hands, she should walk away. . . Life is too short to try to impress a girl by eating with cutlery mehn.
