Culled from: http://doynews.com/article/nigeria-embassies-building-educated-zombies

I don't know about the rest of the Embassies but I am VERY SUSPICIOUS about what is said for Dublin.

Firstly, half way through the author began to talk of Dubai!! Not even on the same continent!

Secondly the claim of one Nigerian a week being murdered in our Capitol Dublin (i.e. at least 50 Nigerians murdered per year). This seemed remarkably high and I was very sceptical. In a nation of 4.5 million (6 million if you include Northern Ireland) ANY murders get NATIONAL COVERAGE IN THE MEDIA. I would have been aware of such a figure.

I checked with the Crime Statistic and saw that in 2012 there were only 77 murders in the entire country. I did not get exact figures but few of these murders were African, let alone Nigerian.

When one portion of an article is so erroneous as this it make me suspicious about all the rest. I have not researched/checked what it says about any of the other countries but they have got Ireland totally wrong. So it is possible that the rest as in error also.

The writer of the report is not very observant. Are these embassy staff not nigerians? Are these embassy staff not from the country named nigerians? If the answer to these 2 questions is yes, then you have to ask how do these nigerians behave when they are in the country called nigeria? Do they behave differently?

If you want nigerian embassy staff to go to foreign lands and behave correctly towards their citizens, then you must begin to teach them these correct behaviours in the country called nigeria. It is in nigeria where nigerian diplomats are trained and not London, Washington, Paris etc.

I hope this is clear to everyone.

Nigerian embassies around the world should be closed down and the staff sent back home immediately! The embassies are suppose to serve as refuge for Nigerians living abroad but instead it has become a "Hammer House of Horror"! Do not count on any Nigerian embassy to protect you when you have problems with your host country....you're on your own. Securing appointments for consular activities is an uphill task! 99% of Nigerian embassy staff are rude, arrogant and incompetent!

What really proved to me the real ineptitude of Nigerian embassies is the ridiculous directive that Nigerians living abroad must come to Abuja for any change of data in their passports! A friend of mine had to travel to Abuja from the Netherlands to change her name to her husband's in her passport. Why can't the embassy do that?

At times i just hate being a Nigerian!

I totally disagree with your post, Nigerian Missions abroad have underscored tremendous achievement in diverse areas ranging from consular service, heightened bilateral ties with host country among other things. However, many Nigerians have attested to the courteous and expedient assistance rendered to them By our embassies. I want to ask you if u re have register with our embassy?

Turn up at ANY British Embassy abroad with your British Passport and see if they ask you if you have registered or they try to help you.

Infact, the citizens of Britain asks for the most ridiculous things when they are broad. Why do they do this? Because they know it is their embassy, it is where they are supposed to feel safe.

I cannot even begin to think what kind of response a nigeria would receive from their embassy staff if they were to behave as ridiculous as these Brits.

Thanks. Yes, I knew they were even before checking with the published statistics. In such a small country EVERY murder makes the media in a prominent way! But I do like to verify just to be sure. It does make you wonder about the rest of the article though?

Incidentally I have been using the Nigerian Embassies in both Dublin and London for my VISAs/Work Permits (All citizens in Northern Ireland have DUAL nationality and can carry both British and Irish passports simultaneously). I have always found the Embassy in Dublin to be helpful and the Nigerians I meet there at least seem satisfied. The London Embassy is always a nightmare to deal with but this is almost certainly due to the massive numbers involved!

The fact is that some of our embassies or consulates are joke .. This one happened in Guangzhou china. My friend lost his passport two years ago and he went to Beijing to obtain another passport which they issue a new passport to him . so it happen last month that he lost his wallet which his bank ATM card was inside it. And the count was open with that of old passport that he lost two year ago. Now he went to the bank and they told him to provide the old passport he use open the account which he told them that the passport has been lost two year ago . they ask him to go to the police to obtain police report that he lost the passport before and to give him power to change the account with the new passport number but when he get to the police they ask him to go and get another peper work at NIGERIA EMBASSY . now he has gone to Nigeria embassy in Guangzhou china two times because he live in guangzhou and they refused to give him the letter he needed to give the police. Now his money is been trap down at the bank. The anoing thing there is that another friend in Nigeria has send money to the same account for him to help the guy in Nigeria give his customer the money .. This people are just busy doing nothing .

My brother the politician do more than does people from the ministry,99% of everybody from the ministry have taken up citizenship in the country they work,so they don't care about Nigeria.it is simple because the Ministry does not move them, they are in one place for almost all there life, they have no over sight, nobody checks them and there is no way for the Association to report to the ministry of forgein affairs, even if you do the ministry does nothing about it.so it is a total failure.

Abeg even though am not in canada i know this must be a fat lie,the embassies we have are useless,in the hole of south america plus the caribbean, not one embassy can issues passport,i repeat not one,do you know how many countries we are talking of here.that is 12 countries in south america plus another 13 in the caribbean, yet we have embassies all over the place.
Sometimes i don't blame the embassies,i blame the ministry of foreign affairs,i have been asking what is Nigeria's foreign policy and when last was it reviewed, till today nobody can tell me

donnypool:

STOP saying what you don't know, i renewed my passport jan of 2015 in ottawa canada, and guess what?

they were all nice people, and we got it done and taken home that same day. so stop all this rubbish.

The last time i had an issue, i called the embassy and they reply very well. so what you saying? how many times have you needed help and you call your embassy?

A friend lost his passport and study permit, and guess what? through the embassy he got help.

you sir just shut up

with all due respect bilateral trade embassies sign help their host countries and not Nigeria,i challenge you to produce evidence of bilateral agreement that has been signed that the embassies encouraged Nigerians to take advantage of,or even informed them that such things exist

The right thing for anybody in the diaspora to do is to register in the embassy. My British friend did that immediately they landed in Nigeria but most Nigerians fail to do same base on the fact that some re illegal immigrant while some belief that our embassy can't assist when need be.

has the ministry of foreign affairs informed Nigerians that you should register at the embassy once you land?have the embassies themself been informed of such, has the embassies informed the Association.
Anyway you look at it our diplomatic system is in dire need of emergency reform
