The problem here with many of you is reading and comprehension . The question is, what's next for them after the almajiri education? What part of our socio economic existence in Nigeria employs the products of almajiri education and as what to do what. ?

Btw, what ever college or university education you get is called skill. Skills is not limited to vocational education.

what next is a stupiid question to ask? what next after primary school? what next after secondary school?

thats your answer right there

Can they speak and write in English language?

Since gej is not gonna be there forever is the certificate recognise world wide or within the ecowas region?

What is the outcome of the school, their vision and mission statement , to eradicate poverty or easy access to education at a low cost or no cost at all?..

Cant the government establish technical schools , to train and equip the students instead of such poor quality education?

Cant the government establish a vocational school and set them up before, to be useful to their own clan and society at large ?

Since the govt is ready to catch them young, they can do better by offering better and quality education....or is the national budget on education too low ?

Can the student sit for gce, waec or jamb?

The govt offered them peanuts to take them off the streets and not to set their paths ....I believe some of you here cant employ any of these lads, yet you criticize fashola .

Fashola's outburst on Almajiri schools in d north is a clear evidence of the type of Govt that awaits Nigerians if APC wins. God forbid. Clearly apc will never give eduction priority. It is obvious Fashola prefers the almajiri roming the streets of d north rather than attending school whearas in Lagos where he is as governors children are attending schools. Clearly Fashola hates d north. No doubt too that Apc hates d north. Tinubu only wanted to use buhari to ascend d presidency with d hope buhari dies.
APC hates the north? What are you even saying? Gmb is a westerner huh?

Fashola i really like you but the way you are going is really becoming embarassing.please ask yourself this few questions
1. What were the almajiri's doing before the schools were built?
2. What has the northern elite done over the years concerning the almajiri's?
3. Would it have been better if the schools were not built atall and this children be allowed to continue being used as a tool for violence?
4. Has the saying 'no knowledge gained is waste' all of a sudden become null and void because you want to oppose as an opposition that you are?
You sir should know that knowledge frees the mind from mental slavery and we all know that some subjects has been added to their curricculum such as integrated science, maths etc which if this was done about two decades ago there would be a high probability that this issue of boko haram will not exists.
Please sir always try to compare from various angles before you speak.you are not perfect,Gej is not perfect, buhari is not perfect but i'll still vote GEJ cause he made a move to give those children a better life.

Fashola attacks with facts. @bold...you must have attended an almajiri school where pupils sit on the floor while their federal government goes about boasting as it's an incredible achievement southwest people are very sophisticated in the sense that they see through falsehood, unlike you "azikiwe" slaveswhat we are saying is that he should stop boasting about it as if it's something unique he did. With all the resources at his disposal, it's a mere school where kids sit on the floor he's basing his campaign on can you compare the above pictures with the picture of amaechi's school below? www.nairaland.com/attachments/2204470_tl_jpegb89a925f5325a7d7309210447889112d

Firstly I am not an empty head so I reject that description. Maybe you have a point in that 99.999% of rich people in Nigeria are not crooks, maybe the figure is closer to 99.1% okay I stand corrected -if you read between the lines. Your response did not surprise me, Nigeria is the standard for you, your benchmark. I know people whose exposure is limited to Nigeria and you are one of them (This is not about travelling abroad spending a few weeks in New York or London, this is about interaction and being a part of a system that works and develops, prospers a nation and its people). Rogues or "million or Billion"aires who march up and down the Nigerian landscape are not known for their contribution to economy and industry (we have none) in the country, but only for "having money"

Let GEJ and his voodoo economic team come out and tell Nigerian why we are here and why the largest "fictitious" economy in the Africa cannot feed its children, women, the old and other vulnerable people in society, while people like "Billyonaire" transverse the landscape bringing mayhem, instability, systemic failure, poverty, hunger, despair and hopelessness. I have seen few "Billionaires" in Nigeria die needlessly when they face simple health emergencies.

You mentioned Dangote losing a portion of his wealth. What about the millions of hard working men and women in society whose purchasing power and savings have just been decimated? And yet it appears there is no government running the country.

The purpose of life is not to come and accumulate unnecessary and needless wealth.

If you dont know, everything is GEJ's fault - why? because he is the president and the welfare and economic security of 170m people lies with him. But this clueless ignoramus? God help us.

Bro, u raised a lot of issues but it was basically subjective. Our billionaires contribute to our economy. People like dangote have over 90 percent of their investment in Nigeria. You need to know the number of people that make a living working under him. Same goes for the many billionaires who have investments here and there through which many Nigerians are gainfully employed. I won't delve into their source of wealth.

Before u fly, u have to learn first to walk. No matter how prosperous an economy is, there will still be people that will be left behind. We have homeless people in america and people that beg on the streets. Though they are very small. China is the second largest economy in the world and a larger percentage of their population is poor. But that is no excuse for our current state. Resources have been mismanaged over the years but it is wrong to throw everytin at jonathan's table. He has only been president for about four years. And I hate to count the period he was an acting president cos it wasn't his mandate and he didn't have much political power to take anytin drastic so as not to danger his endorsement for president.

If the economy has not been diversified in the last thirty years and an administration is making a attempt to do that, that is laudable. That is the way to go, achieve self sufficiency in rice production, sugar. By the time dangote's refinery comes on board, Nigeria will be a net exporter of petroleum products just like we are now exporting cement.

That is how to grow an economy. What do u think he ought to have done that he is not doing?

Some pple jst dont read to understand, fashola is not condemning the schools, he is jst indirectly saying the govt should tackle unemployment. The 2 major cause of terrorism r illiteracy n unemployment, when u tackle illiteracy alone n not providin avenue for dis graduate to utilize der skills, many of them will fall bck n become nuisance to the country. All dis political thugs, armed robbers, terrorist, ritualists, scammers, 419s, yahoo guyz, many of them r graduates.fashola statement is as simple as that, is it until he writes a whole textbook bfor some of u can understand.

What is fashola trying to say,?that the school is of no benefit to the people? Is a pity that a man of his level can just come out in public to expose the level of his IQ, well to make him understand better...you count one before counting two, fashola want the government to register them into the same school he trains his children in to enable them compete with others

I think you should look at your level of IQ before you talk about others. Its a pity that even with your so called high IQ level you couldn't even understand what Fashola is saying.

I advice you to read it again very well and understand what the message is before you come out to blab.

Fashola is a short sighted fool. He keeps on embarrassing himself with his rudderless stupidity. Who is he campaigning for. Tinubu has shut him out of the party.

The almajiri program is the best hope for the North. Any other educational program is only going to be commandeered by northern Christians or southerners. He needs to shut up because nobody, least of all northerners whose votes he might need if he decides to run for president one day, appreciates such massive stupidity.

When ajimobi was thanking GEJ in 2012 for building 3 almajiri schools in Oyo state where was fashola?
Ingrates
They should also wait for the FG to come and service their wives at night angry

The Federal Government has commenced the construction of three Almajiri Schools in Oyo State.

The Minister of State for Education, Mr. M. Wike stated this in Ibadan when he paid a working visit to Governor Abiola Ajimobi in his office at the Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

President Goodluck Jonathan in Sokoto sometime ago, inaugurated the Almajiri Model School. The school was to provide the conventional system of education to millions of Almajiris on the streets of major cities and towns, especially in the Northern part of the country.

The Minister of State for Education, Mr. Wike said the establishment of Almajiri School was aimed at providing education to all children who are of school age.

The Minister explained that the visit gave him the opportunity to inspect works on the schools which are located in Oyo town, Ogun and Ibadan.

Out of the 400 proposed Almajiri Schools across the country, Mr. Wike said 61 will be handled by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

He noted that over One billion naira covering years 2011 and 2012 of UBEC grant to the state had not been accessed.

Responding, Governor Abiola Ajimobi said education is the largest industry in the state. He commended the Federal Government for increasing the number of Almajiri schools in the state from one to three.

He however expressed the readiness of the state Government to access the UBEC grant with a promise to use the fund judiciously.

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, says the Almajiri schools being established by the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government in the northern part of the country have no feasible end gains.

Why fashola chooses to start off by telling a blatant lie beats me
Is he ashamed to mention that the core north as well as the southwest were recipients of these almajiri schools?
Why is he more focused on the north than the prospects in three states in his zone that received perhaps a dozen almajiri schools provided by the FG.

The Osun State Deputy Governor, Otunba Grace Laoye-Tomori has disclosed that the state government is giving its support to the Federal Government’s initiative of building Almajiri schools across the state because it would democratise access to formal and basic education, and address the illiteracy and its accompanying vices rocking the nation.

In her Speech, entitled: “Education: A tool for social integration,” Laoye-Tomori, who doubles as the state’s Commissioner for Education, said if the initiative is well implemented as part of national policy on education, it would go a long way in redefining the orientation of the youths for positive development and growth of the country .

“History is being made in the state of the virtuous, as we extend the frontiers of formal and basic education in collaboration with the Federal Government’s initiative on Almajiri Education Programme.

We intend to add to the curricula of this great Arabic and Islamic school, the teaching of English and Mathematics. We shall post brilliant teachers to join your brilliant and well-read teachers.

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, says the Almajiri schools being established by the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government in the northern part of the country have no feasible end gains.

Fashola said this at an event on Thursday ─ Support Our Schools Breakfast Meeting with the Governor─ held at the City Hall on the Lagos Island.

The governor explained that the purpose of training someone was for the person to be able to use the knowledge gained and the skills acquired to his benefit and the good of society.

He said that could not be said of the Almajiri schools as they had no competitive advantage for the graduates.

He said, “If you train people to acquire certain skills, you must develop avenue where the skills will be useful and that will be the end gain. For instance, graduates of our technical and vocational colleges will become our major contractors.

“And so, it worries me, what is the end gain of products of the Almajiri schools? Will you put your child there? Will a company looking through its job appraisal consider such graduates from Almajiri schools? What chance will the product of the Almajiri schools have working for multinational companies? Are we giving the children a chance when we segregate them into Almajiri schools? Think about it.”

Fashola said as part of measures to encourage vocational and technical education in the state, his administration had issued over 600 contracts as annual maintenance projects of Lagos schools, adding that graduates of the state’s technical schools were the main beneficiaries.

“We have issued maintenance contract to all our schools. We have issued about 600 contracts of annual maintenance of our schools and they ranged between N2m to N4m per annum. Our graduates in the technical and vocational colleges are the substantial beneficiaries of the contracts. We now want to ensure that every school in Lagos has regular and uninterrupted power supply,” he added.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Olayinka Oladunjoye had expressed government’s gratitude to organisations that embraced the ‘Support our school’ initiative, saying the support had contributed to the success of the Fashola’s administration in the educational sector.

http://www.punchng.com/news/no-gains-for-almajiri-schools-graduates-fashola/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

It seems fashola has been so much affected by APC that he doesn't know that almajiri school is a primary school not a secondary or higher institution.

What Fashola is saying in a nutshell is for the government to have a clear vision for the Al Majiri schools. What's the essence of someone sitting on a mat for months and still have nothing to show for it afterwards?

Fashola is preaching about Empowering the kids with a Technical Knowledge that will be useful to the populace in addition to sitting down and reciting the Quran..
