MrTA:Should we've kept playing Falcao till he starts scoring too ? Because I do believe he'll start scoring again but not with the same frequency and sadly not for us. At least when rooney his out of form he makes up for this by coming up big for us defensively. Mata can't do this though not for lack of trying on his part. I laughed at Chelsea when they sold him to us. who is laughing now ? |

Mata, Fellaini, Blind, Herrera, all sluggish players to start together? hmmm till they play first. I think once Young is clipped we will get dominated in midfield....... with pace and power. Ball retrieval will be a problem. |

SIRcumalot:mata is one of our best players.... it's a shame van gaal prefers fellaini's physical nature to mata's deft toüches & intelligence. fellaini got himself into good positions against arsenal & if he had the intelligence of mata, we would have scored more especially in the first half. actually, the type of football van gaal wants us to play suits mata more - it's just that the number of gidigbo players in our squad outweighs the technical players......besides, he's a set-play specialist but rooney's doesn't help at all. rooney is actually very good in the air - it's gross stupïdity to see one of our aerial threats jogging to the corner flag to take corners or indirect freekicks - rooney should be in the box & players like mata should be taking those set-plays. mata is useless aerially but his delivery is world class.....common sense dictates mata(with his aerial weakness) should be taking all our crossed set-plays. all these things are what LVG should sort out - we don't make enough chances from our set plays because LVG can't even sort out who our best specialist is. it was mata that delivered that set play in allianz arena that drogba scored from to draw parity against bayern in a champions league final - it was mata that delivered the corner than ivanovic scored from to win the europa cup final..... yet, he rarely gets a sniff at united.... ![]() |

coogar:That chance fell on the right foot. Mata wouldn't have scored with his right. But I think Fellaini did not even shoot (if it's same chance we are talking about) coogar:I am sure all the set plays you listed were from the right side of the pitch. Rooney and Young should take from the left side while Di Maria and Mata from the right. My observation and thought. |

Paul Scholes expressed his concerns over Mata’s future at the club, suggesting he was worried that the midfielder did not get a start for Louis van Gaal’s side, since their 2-0 win over Queens Park Rangers, back in the middle of January. Mata was taken off at half-time in that game as well, as he was unable to make any sort of impact at Loftus Road, yet, Scholes claimed that Mata is more suitable to Louis van Gaal’s style of play than Fellaini and added, “There must be concerns for Juan Mata, who has not started a league game since the Queen’s Park Rangers match on 17 January.” “Given the system Van Gaal seeks to use, I wonder why Mata does not play instead of Fellaini, especially given that United can be reluctant to knock the ball long.” |

Angel Di Maria has admitted the next month of fixtures will make or break Manchester United’s season. “We are all aware that a number of big games are just around the corner for ourselves and the season will be decided by these fixtures, we know all about these upcoming games and we have been thinking and talking about them for quite some time now. “Since the time that the fixtures for the second half of the season came out, we’ve known that everything would be at stake over this final period. “Everyone at the club is 100% confident, we know that we want to get back into the Champions League and that we want to be fighting it out. “We will battle hard right to the end of the season. From what I know of the club, United always fight right to the end, and that’s what we’re going to do.” Di Maria admitted United remain in a period of transition under boss Louis van Gaal, but claimed they are making progress under the Dutchman and the new arrivals, like him, need time to gel. “I think that having so many new faces arriving and then playing in the first-team, it’s never easy for them to settle in immediately alongside the established players who have been here a while, “It takes time for a team to really hit the heights. We’ve picked up some big results along the way, we’re near the top of the league and we shouldn’t be too downbeat because we’ve achieved quite a lot so far. “I feel really good here, a lot of the players speak Spanish and that was very important for me when I arrived here. “I’ve chatted to David De Gea about this and he said that when he got here there was no-one who spoke it apart from Antonio Valencia and Rafael. “Apart from those two, the majority spoke English and that made it difficult. However, I was lucky enough to come here when there were a lot of Spanish speakers and that makes it much, much easier and helps you, at least through the first year. “I’m genuinely happy to be wearing the No.7 shirt. I know that some really great players have worn it in the past for Manchester United. “Top, top players if you like. I was really excited to wear that number, as it’s the one I wear for Argentina and things have always gone really well for me. “That’s one reason I chose the number and also because so many great players have worn it before me. I hope that I can perform well and that the No.7 shirt can keep its privileged place, high in the history of Manchester United.” [Source: Inside United |

The former Netherlands international feels the form of Radamel Falcao and Angel Di Maria is down to the coach's methods while he also criticised his lack of respect for Ryan Giggs Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been accused of mistreating his players, with former Netherlands international Willem van Hanegem scathing of the Dutchman's lack of respect for Ryan Giggs, Radamel Falcao and Angel Di Maria . For the first time since taking the reins at Old Trafford, Van Gaal is facing a seemingly uncertain future with United's top-four hopes hanging by a thread, and Van Hanegem, who featured for Netherlands at the 1974 World Cup, has hit out at his countryman's managerial style. The 71-year-old former AZ Alkmaar and Utrecht boss criticised Van Gaal for his treatment of assistant Giggs, who was forced to deny any bad blood between himself and the United manager following the team's late 1-0 win over Newcastle United. Van Hanegem also slammed Van Gaal over Falcao after the embattled Colombian striker was banished to the under-21 side in midweek, while British record signing Di Maria has been substituted in consecutive Premier League matches as the Argentina star struggles to make an impact in Manchester. "What I hate to see is how Van Gaal is treating Ryan Giggs," Van Hanegem told the Daily Mirror . "Louis has more attention for the other geezer next to him. But Louis forgets that we are talking here about Ryan Giggs. "Louis has played for Telstar, FC Antwerp and Sparta Rotterdam. Giggs was a giant as a player. He deserves more respect than this. "Falcao has proven over the past few years that he is one of the best strikers in the world. But at United he is being treated as if he was signed from an old fourth division club. "Sometimes he's allowed to play a few minutes, sometimes he is allowed to start, other times he sits 90 minutes on the bench, or even worse, in the stands. "I can see there are more players not happy at United. Di Maria was one of the most important links in the chain at Real Madrid. In the World Cup he was the best player in the Argentina side. "But at United he hasn't been able to pass a ball over more than 25 yards most times." |

elampiro:I'm not so sure it should matter which side of the pitch it is, a good delivery will cause chaos in the box. See the pin-point from di Maria for van Persie's equalizer against Chelshit; yes it was from the left side. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by coogar: 2:15pm On Mar 14, 2015 |
elampiro:mata has the guile & technique to change ball to the other foot. there was the first fellaini chance where he opted to turn back instead of shooting. then later in that half, he actually attempted a shot with his weaker foot & it was very good. if he applied the same technique in the first chance he had, he woulda scored. there was also another chance where his weight of the ball was too excessive for young to connect. he teed young beautifully but the pass was too much & young had to stretch to connect with the ball. mata would have applied the required weight of the ball in that circumstance. I am sure all the set plays you listed were from the right side of the pitch. Rooney and Young should take from the left side while Di Maria and Mata from the right.under no circumstance should rooney be taking any crossed set play for us. he's the best header of the ball in the club. if the players have decided to cross the set play(indirect freekick) then rooney should be in the box to help the ball into the net. it's a waste of personnel to have the best header in the club taking corner kicks. mata cannot head the ball so why not let mata take the corner with rooney in the box hustling with defenders. all these differentials are the reasons we don't win games. 2 david beckham corners got us the victory against bayern munich. we have a specialist who has delivered on the big stage and yet we don't let him take corners. there was a time jones was even taking them for us - a team fighting for a champions league spot should be doing better. |

SailorXY:side matters. it's d norm now to take from opposite side of ones foot. it makes it more dangerous. why do u think messi and ronaldo don't take all free kicks? |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by coogar: 2:24pm On Mar 14, 2015 |
elampiro:in-swingers can be as dangerous as out-swingers. it shouldn't matter which foot. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by SIRcumalot: 2:25pm On Mar 14, 2015 |
coogar:On further consideration Maybe I am a bit unfair to Mata he looks like the guy that will look for the adventurous pass rather than play it safe maybe this is why his always on the bench I don't think LVG is much of a risk taker this may also explains why Herrera is a bit conservative now. Come new Transfer season Rooney and Maybe De Gea(if he stays) will be the only guys off the market everybody else is for sale. Funny, all the things we heard about LVG character so far his the exact opposite. I do think we've more Technical players than Gidigbo.fellani is the only physical player we have in that Midfield. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by coogar: 2:34pm On Mar 14, 2015 |
SIRcumalot:LVG isn't a risk taker - he wants possession to control the game but he doesn't have a group of 11 technical players so he's using the wrong tactics for players that are not technically decent. Come new Transfer season Rooney and Maybe De Gea(if he stays) will be the only guys off the market everybody else is for sale.rojo, shaw, smalling, blind, young, fellaini, januzaj, etc will all stay. Funny, all the things we heard about LVG character so far his the exact opposite.who are the technical players then? players who can receive the ball from any right angle, control it, turn and release an accurate pass to a team mate? we don't have many of these kinda players - na players like phil jones, valencia, shaw, rooney, evans, young, smalling full our squad - players who treat the ball like ebola disease. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 2:35pm On Mar 14, 2015 |
coogar:but Mata has taken some for us. we are generally not as effective as last season and before. Rojo has wasted two point black headers that even old me should score. that should have been two assists to Rooney. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by coogar: 2:43pm On Mar 14, 2015 |
elampiro:maybe if rooney was in the box, the chances would have fallen to him instead of rojo. it's bizarre not to have fellaini, rooney, RVP in the box. they shouldn't be taking corners - it's a waste of goal threats! |

just review David luiz and thiago Silva goals against Chelsea and see how players head ball. ivanovic is another great header , just like Drogba. we have no powerful header like Vidic did for us from set play. smaling did okay once and I was disappointed with his nodding the other time. there was a day about 5 dangerous crosses we put into the box from corner kick were cleared by one Swansea player. yet Fellaini was in the box while all the croses from left side were cleared by DAT guy unchallenged in d six yard area. |
