Who were the main oppositions o. And did they survive? If they were major oppositions, why the merger after obasanjo not during?

He didn't scuttle any merger. During all the electoral appeal, he could have easily influenced decisions and nobody would know what's up. He has giving a level playing ground for everyone. Interfered less in state matters and focused on national development.
