Is the op telling us that Fed Uni Otuoke is a one structure university? Why not give us pictures (as your topic indicates) of other structures/buildings in the school so we could judge ourselves. |
| Re: Federal University Otuoke In Pictures by Mayor21(m): 10:36am On Mar 18, 2015 |
holysaint1:tanx man... That means my cousine should be through cos she said 100lvl starts 1st... She's been telling how the school has good infrastructure with a gym center for students e.t.c, so i couldn't understand what the op is talking about. |
| Re: Federal University Otuoke In Pictures by Osakah24(m): 10:40am On Mar 18, 2015 |
I dont know what is bad about the picture, the building is completed and painted, There is aluminum windows and Air condition system, the walkway is inter-locked.The Floor is tiled with porcelain tiles amid some damages which is normal where there is high population influx. Anyone trying to clarify anything is just giving credence to the foolish op. |

Mayor21:leave op make him dey yarn dust... d first pik he posted is d library which comprises of a E-library and Reading library ... And besides d school hasnt moved to its permanent site (under construction) yet... Its still operating on a temporary site. so some of d lapses are kinda inevitable at the moment.. |

Uteghe:Ok....so who asked you if you are a Niger Deltan or not? What relevance is that to the topic? You went to Federal University Otuoke, and all you could see was just one building, right? Clap for yourself! .....in fact, clap for yourself again!! I say CLAP FOR YOURSELF AGAIN!!!!!! |
| Re: Federal University Otuoke In Pictures by Nobody: 11:05am On Mar 18, 2015 |
hush15:Nope....I am refering to the state of university education in Nigeria....which goes beyond politics. Put simply.....state and federal governments do not have enough money to fund universties adequately. And as a graduate of a federal university I can tell you that it is just as bad in the federal universities. Eventually....fees are going to go up. That is the main thrust of my argument. LASU may be charging high fees.....but that is because quite simply LASG does not have the kudi. Ditto for the Federal Govt. Nothing to do with PDP or APC politics BTW. |

stronger:All the universities currently available in Nigeria don't have the capacity to admit even half of all the students seeking admission every year. We still need more universities even though improving standards is critically important. |
| Re: Federal University Otuoke In Pictures by OrlandoOwoh(m): 11:35am On Mar 18, 2015 |
emmasege:I don't know of other schools, but I know of OAU, Ile-Ife. In two years after structures started being erected, the gigantic six storey Faculty of Agriculture with its adjoining laboratory building of the same level (though three floors) and a block of three lecture theatres (ALT A,B & C), were completed. Within the same period, the three humanities blocks (HB1, HB2 & HB3) that have four floors, as well as their two adjoining auditoria were completed. Also, the five blocks of three floors each in the Fajuyi Hall were completed. The two blocks of the same size in the temporary women hostel (now blocks 7 & 8 of Awolowo Hall) were completed. In both halls, common rooms, TV rooms and kitchen were built. Blocks of flats were also built in the staff quarters. The period was between 1965 and 1967. |

bushdoc9919:While I won't want to also politicize education per say and also considering your view, I however can't compare the both, while federal government are responsible to many federal higher institutions, the state is only responsible to the state and in most case, its one state university, state polytechnic and vocational insititute and that can't be compare to managing feferal establishment. The states don't have a reason for not being able to meet up. Other State universities that don't generate that much IGR are better shaped than the lagos state uni. And that's it is not politicized is an understatement cos the school is highly politicized. Again, I might not speak for other state universities cos I am not a product of them, the one I know which I am also a product of, I know what am talking about and I challenge any LASU student out there to say otherwise if it is not true. Ordinary OSU is fairing better by my affiliation with them. Higher Institution in Lagos is in a very deplorable state. You think government don't have anything to do with it? The space for lagos state polytechnic is acquire to build a TV station by the former governor. The school of midwifery in the state is purchased by that same person. Even the state university is largely influenced by the government. That's the situation here in lagos o. Be not deceived and federal government has nothing to do with it. The schools are finacially capable if the right things and the right steps are followed. I appreciate your opnion all the same but I am equally saying the truth. |

ILIDEFI:Thanks very much!! I agree with you 100% But the PRIORITY for the government now should be to IMPROVE DRASTICALLY the existing GOVERNMENT-OWNED SCHOOLS and create an enabling environment for PRIVATE SCHOOLS to be opened. That should be the priority! If the GEJ admin has created the environment for private schools, kudos to him. Yes, private schools are expensive. This is where student loans for the under-privileged come in. So the priority (again I emphasise priority) should be to improve the existing schools. Right now, that is not happening. Cheers |

saintandsinnerz:Lashes to the OP, I think he is get-rich-quick type. He probably doesn't know many renowned Universities today started from humble beginning, structural infrastructures and other amenities were either sub standard or inadequate, but today they have risen to fame. Much can't be expected from temporary site structures, which are just needed to begin with in order not to waste time. The first graduates of such University may even come up with records difficult to beat when nicest facilities are fully on ground. I can understand he is just showing that to discredit the founder and incite negative utterances. |

OrlandoOwoh:All these happened btw 1965 & 67 according to you. Mind u, OAU was established in 1963. What were OAU's structures like btw 62&65? Anyway, you cannot compare the drive for materialism & level of corruption now to what it was in the 60s. The rate at which the self-acclaimed awoists have cornered all the resources of Lagos/south west to themselves is a testimony to that. OAU is today a pride of naija because Awolowo was selfless enough not to think of personalising a joint property. And mind u, I don't see the government of naija irrespective of who's there (PDP or APC) building a university like OAU, UI, LAG, ABU again. Corruption has so much permeated our system that we will have to spend trillions of naira for many years with nothing to show for it. Only private universities can attain such now since every kobo spent is fully accounted for. This is why covenant university has an edge over many naija unis, particularly the second generation unis downward. |

Macelliot:The federal university in ekiti is the worst I've seen among them all. You will have to go & check d ones in Lokoja, Ebonyi for a fair assessment. I think those seem to be doing fine for a beginning. |
| Re: Federal University Otuoke In Pictures by OrlandoOwoh(m): 6:01pm On Mar 18, 2015 |
emmasege:OAU, Ile-Ife was established in 1962. Between then and 1965, it was operating on the campus the College of Arts and Science, Ibadan now occupied by The Polytechnic. |

Uncletony:U Shd've Corrected My View Without Attacking My Person. Only Illiterates Do That So I Wonder Who The Slowpoke Is. The English'l Say A Little Knowledge Is A Dangerous Thing and that Explains the difference you often (if u've been out of school long enough) see btw students of the same course 4rm different Unis. It would 2 me have been better that the standards these very first universities Had be replicated in every university whether public/private. I finished 4rm an FUT myself so I know what I'm saying. As for your question, they did say the Unis were established 2 EQUALIZE D No of Unis in each geopolitical zone So its out of political beta-pas-my-neighbour mentality & not need/efficiency &sustainability analysis... |
