Prices rose while living standards fell, leading to a palace coup by Gen Ibrahim Babangida on 27 August 1985. Mr Buhari was imprisoned for 40 months.

Buhari will fight corruption they continue tell us. But no one seems to tell us how! Fortunately, history tells us how Buhari did it the first time out. After successfully (some say cowardly) benefiting from the coup plot that ousted Shagari ‘corrupt’ regime, Buhari placed President Shagari under house arrest, while Ekwueme the VP was bundled into prison. Buhari threw Fela Anikulapo Kuti into prison for possession of foreign currency (Fela had just returned from performing abroad, the poor fella didn’t know a decree has been passed prohibiting holding foreign currency). Meanwhile in the same era 53 suitcases containing some $700M was smuggled into the country by Emir of Gwando, the father of Buhari’s ADC. While Fela languished in detention, the Emir, a well connected “born to rule”, was given a pass! Let’s not forget banning of press freedom (decree 4) and the botched attempt to smuggle a fugitive from the UK by the Buhari’s regime. That is how Buhari fought corruption; wouldn’t we rather go back to this ‘wonderful’ era by voting him?

In 1984, Buhari passed Decree Number 4, the Protection Against False Accusations Decree,[31] considered by scholars as the most repressive press law ever enacted in Nigeria.[32] Section 1 of the law provided that “Any person who publishes in any form, whether written or otherwise, any message, rumour, report or statement […] which is false in any material particular or which brings or is calculated to bring the Federal Military Government or the Government of a state or public officer to ridicule or disrepute, shall be guilty of an offense under this Decree”.[33] The law further stated that offending journalists and publishers will be tried by an open military tribunal, whose ruling would be final and unappealable in any court and those found guilty would be eligible for a fine not less than 10,000 naira and a jail sentence of up to two years. Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabor of The Guardian were among the journalists who were tried under the decree.

Under the Buhari/Idiagbon regime, once you ended up at 15 Awolowo Road, you may never be heard of again. Decree Number 2 of 1984 empowered Tunde Idiagbon to arrest and detain anybody indefinitely without trial and without legal reprieve. After Buhari was overthrown, Mohammadu Gambo opened the prison doors of 15 Awolowo Road on public television, revealing people in various stages of UnCloth and malnutrition that had been kept in the dungeons without trial by Buhari’s hound-dogs.

As self-imposed Head of State, Buhari had no regard for human rights. Immediately he seized power, he announced that he would “tamper with” the press. Soon, the infamous Decree Number 4 was promulgated which made even the publication of the truth a punishable offence. Under this cover, Buhari jailed innocent journalists, including Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabo. He abolished civil liberties, promulgated retroactive decrees enabling him to kill Nigerians through jungle justice, proscribed civil society organizations and professional groups and exercised “absolute” power.

This same Buhari would now have us believe that he has gone through some metamorphosis and has become a democrat. I am sure you will forgive me if people like me don’t believe him. Buhari is not, has never been, and will never be, a democrat. Only in Nigeria would a man with his track record, who came to power through a military coup that illegally overthrew a democratic government, now be acclaimed as a democrat. It is on record that Buhari’s military regime is the only one in Nigeria’s history that failed to promulgate a programme for return to civilian rule.

Initially i supported APC but carefully looked at their way of life i discover that they are old thieves trying to wear new clothes i decamped to PDP at least i know what they have done afterall Northerners have ruled for more than 30 yrs including Buhari but nothing drastically changed

His scheme has clearly come to a head. I for one do not believe that APC did not know about Buhari's short comings. Most importantly his age, health and certificate issue. It becomes obvious then that someone is plotting to use Buhari to gain the votes of Buhari's base in the North but discard him at some point after the election through one of so many ways!. Some of which could be Natural or Man-Made!

In the words of Ayo Fayose. "This is a banana peel!" and Nigerians must beware

The certificate issue already in court will be ruled some day and it is highly likely that Buhari will be retrospectively disqualified as APC clearly have no response to the substance of the case but rather playing for time until after the election. After the election I believe that APC strategy will change. Buhari will be thrown under the Bus by his own party IF they win and they will be arguing that the court should allow Osinbajo be sworn in as elected President while Osinbajo selects a new VP. Were this to happen Tinubu's plot to govern the country by proxy as he has done in Lagos would have come to pass!

As Nigerians go to the polls this Saturday 28th March, it is important to remember that no matter what happens on March 28th, Buhari will not be President on May 29th! Don't vote for a CABAL!

Please go and ask FFK, Fayose and others who have been smearing GMB almost on daily basis, has it ever been effective?

And is there any bigger exercise in futility than spending billions of dollars on a campaign that is almost solely based on tarnishing the good reputation of one person, yet you watch helplessly as the popularity of the person keeps soaring, and soaring until he eventually cruises to victory, before your very eyes?
