I went to school at rhodes grahamstown. Its a tiny town and it is really à retirement home for old people with no life. But it would be too boring for me ! The arts festival is just one month in the year.

Most of our people condemning the choice of Ibadan do not know anything about it or know little about it.

By all standards, Ibadan will always be chosen for such function with respect to Africa. The following reasons should suffice:

1. Historically, Ibadan has a number of first's -First Television in Africa, first University in Nigeria, First International standard stadium in Africa, First Skyscraper in Nigeria, etc

2. Economically, Ibadan has a robust economy that you cannot over look. For you to enjoy your retirement, it wont be out of place to choose such place.

3. Security -wise, to enjoy retirement, you want peace and tranquillity and if you choose Ibadan , that is very feasible.

4. Amenities: Only few cities in Nigeria can compete favourably with Ibadan in terms of facilities and social amenities. With 3 standard stadiums in Ibadan only, different tennis clubs (Ibadan Tennis Club, Tennis Club at Adamasingba, etc) Gulf Courts, Polo clubs, Birds reserves, more than 5 city malls, industrial estates, housing estates, etc. It will never be out of place to live in Ibadan after retirement.

5. Beauty/ Aesthetic reasons- The general impression of brown roofs has deceived a lot of people about the real beauty of Ibadan. The brown roof is just a small part of Ibadan and that can never be used to determine the level of aesthetics that can be enjoyed there. There are so many hotels for hospitality and tourism that you can hardly get in any other city in Nigeria apart from Lagos, and Abuja.

6. Tourism- With many parks and gardens, zoos and hotels. There are a lot of sights and scenes that can make you enjoy your stay in Ibadan.

I want to advise people raising aspersions at the choice of Ibadan to put a stop to it. Ibadan is a great city.

I Leave It!! Osun has 22hrs Light A Day! Peaceful, Tourist Attraction, Cheap, Fast-Rising! Which state can Beat that

Youre being Ignorant.
. Osun, the electricity capital of Nigeria. They don't know! The night life in Osogbo can only be compared to Owerri in the East. You can sleep with your door open. But the quality of housing is a no no and the stray goats just doesn't cut it.

You are useless goat by picking that picture for Ibadan. God punish your miserable father.

What happen to these pictures below

Pls , no need being angry. Some of us still find the ancient ibadan pictures fascinating. Its more unique than the others which all look the same. Ibadan has a very rich history, even her people are unique.

How do you "back statements up with experience"?

You sound foolish, Enugu is not 1/100th of those three states what nonsense are you talking about?

This is the same Enugu you're talking about o.

Enugu is ideal for those looking for a laid back vibe. Recently the public transportation and housing have improved greatly. You can rent a three-bedroom, four-bathroom home for around $2,000 per month or buy a three-bedroom house for around $75,000.

$2000/month for Enugu is on the high side. I guess you meant $200 approx. N40,000

It pains me a great deal when Yorubas and Igbos fight over tribal supremacy! For Christ's sake, we don't need this as a nation hoping for greatness!
I av been thru the 7pages and all I can see is people who are driven not by national unity but sectional sentiment! This is bad!
By doing this, wat do u expect oda nationals on nairaland to think of us Dey make us laughing stocks, dats why they don't respect us! We need to learn how to live as brodas! We av been co-existing for years and yet we act as if we started just yesterday! This not wat we need to move forward as a nation!

I am yoruba, and I av travel a little across Nigeria, every region has got its own beauty! The first time I went to Owerri! I was amazed! even up here in the North! Beautiful places!

To my Yoruba brothers who think the south east is a place of crime or rural areas Whr the indegenes are running away from, you are wrong! Come out of ur holes in Osun, Ekiti, Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Ondo and visit d east! It is a beautiful place to be! A growing region, planned, developing, increasing and exciting!

To my Igbo brothers who think Ibadan, Akure, Ado-Ekiti, Osogbo, Abeokuta and oda Yoruba cities are adorned with thatched or brown roofs! Get that out of ur head! D Southwest is beautiful! Pls try and visit dis places and see for urself....even d developing Adoekiti has some cool and interesting areas! go to Akure, Osogbo n co and enjoy good roads, nice neighbourhood n lots! Infact, I av never seen electricity as reliable as in Osogbo, except in Abuja and some part of Benin city (Ekehuan road) and some part of Niger state (Bida, lapai, shiroro and some nupe areas)

Moderators of Nairaland, Pls let's not incite tribal grudges with our posts! Let's glorify this country with our posts so that d outside world can respect us! D pics u used for Ibadan and Enugu are 'be-littling'!

I am from Ekiti state, I schooled in Benin and served in Niger state! I av sojourned to d east! Infact, I wanted to serve in Enugu! My best friends are mostly from south south and south east! My girlfriend is from!Benin, my room mate in school is Urhobo, my room mate during NYSC is from Asaba, my real niggas are frm Imo, anambra and Abia! My caretaker in Niger state is from Imo, ma Landlord is Gwari while ma Pastor is Yoruba! I av host of northern friends who see me as their broda! I am a Nigerian to the fullest!
May God continue to keep us togeda as a nation and keep blessing us!

Ibadan & Enugu make sense. The weather is the only concern, heavy rain and scorching heat and humidity.

Not conducive to outdoor activities. That's what put mediterranean climes ahead.

As for South Africa, if you're tired of having your head above your neck, you can go there. With Mandela gone, and economic conditions likely to get worse for the poorest South Africans, African solidarity that help force Apartheid out will be lost to history and fellow Africans will be hated more.

Yes it does sir. English skill is necessary in an English speaking country like Nigeria. If we was in France, Germany or japan, i'll still correct your sentence structure. English is our first language in Nigeria.[/quote

My first language is Igbo..
U have lost ur Identity.
Your decendants will suffer identity crises.
your are still suffering from the deception left behind by white men to primitive africans, making them to respect a man that speaks English rather than a man that has wisdom and knowledge. One of the reason africa is this backward.
like I said, knowing English is not a measure of knowledge on global stage.
stop being primitive, once u can communicate with it, thats ok. Better develop good skills that makes a nation and individuals grow...IT, sciece, tech, acnt engeengineering, policy studies, medical, etc

Whats your definition of white? we are a colony of the English men, same as the Americans and the Canadians. so that mean the Americans are backward because they speak English? Take your pride less pride some where else. The worst plague in Nigeria today is tribalism. I know you were among the igbos screaming when the oba of Lagos threaten to drown you all in the lagoon.
