@OP I have been trying to obtain the registration forms for almost 2 years now at NHIS office in my organization (Ahmadu Brllo University) but its always not available. Where can I get the form? Can I obtain it from the HMO of my institution? If yes please give me the HMO details and address for Ahmadu Bello University. Thanks.

Is there no NHIS desk officer in the school clinic? That's who you should talk to

i'm so happy for a thread like this and just want to ask few questions

1.i registered my ex-girlfriend as my dependant on the rumours that if you're not married you won't be eligible for NHIS,now im happily married and want to change her to my dependant. please how can i go about it?

2.it was rumoured in some quaters that NHIS cost administered per annum is #300,000 so once your treatment exceed the said amount you will have to pay for the rest.please how true is that?
3.on the green card that was issued to me on registration,ROSENBURG was written there and i think its the contractor if i'm right?. is there a law stating that i should be paid that said amount above if i didn't fall sick at all throughout the year? (afterall the money is allocated for my treatment as government official) lol!
please let me have your say on these issues........

Maybe I don't understand your first question, but you already registered her didn't you? The rest of the questions are rumors like you rightly stated. There's no iota of truth in them.

Yes you can add them as your extra dependants by getting a bank draft of N9,000 for each of them, you will also need their passport photograph, know the HCP they want which may not be thesame as the one you use, it can also be in a different state

NHIS registers both married and single people.
You can go to NHIS office to delet your ex and go with the passport photographh of your wife and children for addition which will cost you N500 per person payable to NHIS UBA account that will be given to you when you get to the office.
You do not get any money from not going to your HCP.
NHIS has a benefit package, some threatment require only co-payment, some are part paid for and some are under the exclusion list.

I started this topic to educate and enlighten those that wanted to no more about NHIS....

NHIS is a health insurance plan programme for every individual in Nigeria. Our offices in lagos
> Lagos Zonal office: 443, Herbert Marculay way, yaba.
> Ikeja state office: 112, awolowo way, balogun bus stop, ikeja.

Please I have two questions:
1.What is the difference between NHIS and the health insurance
plans provided by bodies like AVON and Hygeia?

2. Is there a regulatory body for all these health insurance plan?

Thanks.

NHIS is the regulatory body and that's of of the difference between NHIS and the HMO's.
Also NHIS is nationwide, allows a principal in the formal sector chose 2 different hospitals for themself and their family in 2 states.
NHIS enrollees are able to receive treatment in any accredited faciliies that is not their's on emergency cases. Etc

Just to be clear: are you saying NHIS is the regulatory body but also provides its own insurance
plan as well?

What do you mean by a principal in the formal sector?

Sorry if my questions are too many. I found myself in position of recommending health plans to
some families and NGOs. I have only been involved with Hygeia and AVON which cover you and your
spouse including four(4) children. I am trying to gather as much information as possible.

Thanks for your time.

Yes NHIS regulates health insurance in Nigeria and yes it provides its own plan as well.

What do you mean by a principal in the formal sector?
The principal in the formal sector is the individual who is working in the formal sector and who initiates the insurance for the individual family. If the wife is the federal government employee, she
is the principal and the husband and children are dependents.

Go ahead with any more questions you have. The idea is that we all get to know what this is all about. Its not for a select few. I also know a HMO that cater for aged parents too in addition to their immediate families at just N14,500 per head per annum.

The NHIS caters majorly for the formal sector with the numerous HMOs as the middle man. The HMOs on their part caters 100% to every other class, employed and unemployed and they are all regulated and must meet the NHIS standard

Does this mean NHIS deals directly with people in formal sectors only and uses HMOs as middle man to interact with other sectors?

By formal sector I assume you mean public sector. I hope that's right.

one question: Is it possible to have more than the standard benefits, even if it means paying more premium?

Good thing I found this thread. I have had some issues with nhis and i might be able to get answers here. Sorry I haven't patience to read through the pages but I tried the first and last pages. So, pls pardon me if u'v talked about what am about to ask in the previous pages.

I registered with 15k last year with an HMO on Herbert Macaulay, Yaba, I went with d intentions of getting the private nhis plan but was directed by d HMO to get their own 15k plan which they said was better than d govt's plan. Issue was- I was denied many medicals, all i got was cheap malaria drugs and improper attitudes by the private hospital (becos they claimed not to be well paid by the hmo). I paid for all my laboratory tests.

The experience made me decide not to renew it. i was actually directed to that hmo by the nhis head office in Abuja.

Now, pls specify what packages the private 15k plan by the govt covers or does not cover. I mean, what treatments can one get? The HMOs specify.

Also, pls what hospitals shld one with the 15k yearly plan go to?

Thank you.

Sorry about your ill treatment. It wasn't supposed to be that's why NHIS keep sensitising and causing HMOs to sensitise their enrollees and the general public. However, the 15k plan from NHIS has been scrapped, its the VCSHIP. Next time if you want a private plan from any HMO, make sure you understand fully the extent of their liability. Again, I really don't understand why the fuss about "cheap" drugs. Are drugs food? Is there any luxury or show off in taking these medication? If coflin of N120 can cure your cough why go for ventolin of N450? I don't gerrit! Anyway, talk to a good hmo if you still want to renew. I can recommend you to one.

Hello,please my questions go thus
1.It was being proposed sometimes last year that the nhis was planning to enrol school pupils which would have significantly increased total coverage against the dismal 5percent coverage of the nhis.well,it appears that's not going to be a reality anytime soon.I will like to know why this project failed or if not when the project is going to kick off
2.The current mobile scheme being proposed, when exactly is it going to kick off cos it has been in the pipeline since last year too
3.Is it true that enrollees under nhis scheme with chronic illness like DM and hypertension can only be managed by secondary health providers and not primary health providers.so if paradventure they present in primary health provider centres they are referred to secondary health care providers
4.Earlier on u said enrollees are only requiired to pay 10percent of drug fees, but I know of some hospitals where nothing is being paid,u go in for whatever treatment and leave without paying anything.please how is this possible
Your kind response is being awaited.thanks

Enrolling school pupils is at the discretion of the proprietor/ess. What is mandatory is the TiSHIP (tertiary institution social health insurance programme). I don't support the pupils being mandated to register because of the double registration it will attract.

2.The current mobile scheme being proposed, when exactly is it going to kick off cos it has been in the pipeline since last year too
Bureaucracy

Except when complications arise, its wrong to manage DM and hypertension outside primary care

Yes, NHIS is the regulatory body and also provides its own insurance plan as well?

PRINCIPAL is the person from whose salary the premium is been deducted.

Please read previous post and answers given to question for more understanding and so that we won't keep repeating what have been said.

1. Its still on the pineline.
2. Mobile health has already kicked off in lagos and will be spread to other states. Dail *616# for MTN subscribers
3. If complication arise then its secondary health provider
4 yes, some health providers choose not to take the 10% to encourage and make things a bit more easier for enrollees

Secondly, how much credit from the total N12,000 must I have used before I can access care?

Upmanagers is d user name I chose to use just as u chose to use micchinaemere. As I said in my 1st post, I am a staff of NHIS lagos, ikeja state office, my mission is to make NHIS as understandable as possibly can to novist and elite alike.
N12k for NMHIP known as mobile health is d yearly charge and you must ve paid for atleast 2months to assess healthcare in ur chosen HCF.

I hear the mobile health has now spread to all States. Could it be there is a style of writing the name of the LGA which I don't know? For instance, Ibadan North written as IBD. N. Tried this as well and failed.

NHIS has a guideline which it follows, if the treatment you need is covered in our guideline it will be covered unfortunately some HCF deny enrollees from such and few enrollees no that they should call their HMO to clearify if the treatment is covered or not and so they simply pay or forget treatment.
Even in a case where mayment is made for a treatment that is covered, my state and zonal office with the receipt of payment will make sure enrollees are refunded.
If you do not know ur HMO or how to contact them come to our office and make enquiries, you can also lay your complains
