Haha! I know your aunt mind is that they must have her used her blood for fetish, rituals or spiritual things but that it's not always the case. I have experienced first hand cases where patients blood samples are misplaced or they are not rightly named or labelled at its required on sample containers. Phlebectomist had to take another samples.

C'mon, Ronald. Sue for negligence? The lab scientist hasn't caused any harm to the female. What if the blood coagulated (and had to be discarded unknowningly by a junior lab scientist) 'cause the haemotology bottle didn't contain anticoagulant during bleeding of the patient? What if it spilled during centrifuging? A thousand and one things can happen to blood samples on the lab work slab during testing. As long as the patient isn't infected or affected directly and no nosocomial infection can be traced or proved, suing the laboratory is a charade.

All what you said falls under the possible reasons why the blood sample wasn't found. But whose responsibility is it to ensure blood samples doesn't coagulates or that the anticoagulant bottle should be in a good state always? Isn't it the job of the medical lab technician, physician or med technologist to ensuring that all blood samples are kept in good condition? And if someone fails in their responsibility it shows unseriousness and they can also be said to be negligent.

I'm now convinced that nothing could come out of the case if scrutinised or tested in a law court, as there was no harm done to the patient whose blood sample went missing like you rightly pointed out. But I'm not sure if that dismisses the fact that it was a case of negligent on the part of the med lab technicians and physicians at the lab.
