Niger DeltaNiger Delta youths under the aegis of Bridge Builders Of Nigeria (BOND) have called on the incoming administration to address problems of infrastructure and widespread poverty in the Niger Delta.

This is coming ahead of the May 29 swearing-in of General Muhammadu Buhari as the President of Nigeria.

At a news conference in Abuja, the Grand Patron of the group, Dibi Yankore, said that addressing the challenges facing the region would help in sustaining the peace and security that is currently being enjoyed in the region.

Issues of environmental degradation, lack of infrastructure and widespread poverty in the Niger Delta region were brought to the front burner as the Niger Delta youths attempted to set an agenda for the incoming administration of General Muhammadu Buhari.

The association advised the incoming administration to fulfill its campaign promises in order to ensure the sociopolitical and economic growth of Nigeria as a nation.

At a separate news conference, another group, the Ijaw Youth Council appealed to the President-elect to sustain the amnesty programme established by the late President Musa Yar’adua for the rehabilitation of restive Niger Delta youths in order to ensure continuous peace in the region.

The President of the Ijaw Youth Council, Udengs Eradiri, said that the sustenance of the programme would not only boost the nation’s oil resources but would continue to ensure peace in the Niger-Delta region.

They also appealed to all the youths of the Niger Delta region to support the incoming administration.

The only thing the people of the Niger Delta should demand is resource control. If not, the 20 billion barrels of crude oil money will be wasted on rebuilding the insurgency destroyed north east.

All I read is widespread poverty, widespread poverty, yet ringworm infested Ijaw slaves like chukwudi44 will want to deceive themselves that poverty is only manifested in the North. Smh.

I kept wondering when has amnesty become synonymous with sharing money to pardoned terrorists.

After 6years,Jonathan could not do anything for his people. The money Jonathan and his wife have stolen is enough to turn the Niger Delta to Dubai.

Tompolo,Boyloaf,Asari Dokubo prefer to invest in countries like Benin and Togo than the Niger Delta.

They should stop distracting GMB and let him be!

Jonathan was useless to even his own people. What happened to Ibaka port? NDDC projects (even their own HQ)? Oil spills? Jonathan was a clueless, useless and failed president. QED.

Mind you no one said he's a useless man so don't take things personal, he's just a useless president.

Well the amnesty should be sustained, but they should not rely on govt too long.
They should find another source of income

some of my Niger delta brothers are wasting their time. why didn't they call our so called brother, son, GEJ to develop our region? when my governor, Rotimi Amaechi was shouting, they disowned him. calling him all sorts of names including a betrayal. For the Amnesty program, it has ended since. so no need continuing to waste our scarce resources on criminals that are supposed to be in jail or even killed.

They prefer to stupidly blame the Hausa Fulani for their leaders failures while they keep robbing them blind. I can't wait for Wike to start dealing with Rivers. You sow impunity, you reap impunity. You sow lawlessness, you reap lawlessness.

GMB will surprise them with unprecedented development. The North does not particularly hold anything against the SS, they protected their own like anyone would have done, though they keep committing the same damning mistake of blaming the wrong people for their problems.

Whatever bruises the relationship with the SS has suffered is temporary and will heal after the initial pain of Jonathan's defeat subsides, especially with the massive development and empowerment the region will experience under GMB. No infantile rants by any keyboard warrior can change that. However the SE will forever be despised and be in the crosshairs of the North for their campaigns of hatred. Mark my word.

Nigerians are a funny bunch. Which one is BOND?

Under GEJ's regime, these guys lived like kings. The choice cars in Abuja, the houses, the money they dolled around...I think it is game up. If the Niger Delta has remained how it was when Jonathan took over, then they should hold the Ministry of Niger Delta, the NDDC, other agencies and their state governors responsible. Akpabio did well in Akwa Ibom state. What stopped other governors from doing same? Enough is enough! Other regions too are in dire need of development. The North east for one has to rebuild after the Boko Haram madness has come to an end. In as much as the oil is being gotten from the region, it belongs to all Nigerians. After all, the government sponsored and is still sponsoring most indigenes from that region abroad.

They should start looking for jobs like every Nigerian. Government should scrap the payment of monies.

That's where the problem will come from, sustainability of the amnesty.

Buhari and Tinubu will like to play James Bond.. And trust me Tompolo and Dokubo wouldn't blink an eye before bombing pipelines.

Then the South West and South East Wil watch from the sidelines.

They should task themselves first on personal responsibility.

How many stalwarts from that region have taken it upon themselves to do something great for their people. Have they held their own governors responsible on accountability? What about their honorables, senators and minister of Niger Delta? Pls how many of them have paid dividends to their own people?

You've not helped yourself and you want someone else to help you.

Kontinu. God is watching us

Shey they were hell bent in restoring their corrupt brother... Who had been in government since 2007 and couldn't do anything significant to better the lives of his people... Abegii GMB needs to stop the free money being dashed to those lazy people. Instead infrastructures should be built and if they like they should return to the creeks na just to scatter all of them with bomb useless sets of humans
