Awoniyi Rejects Signing Bonus From Esperance As Man City Come Calling

The future of Taiwo Awoniyi is still covered in mist with six weeks left before the start of the Fifa Under 20 World Cup in New Zealand, SL10.ng understands.

In the last few days, the Flying Eagles striker has held high-level talks on his next career step.

After the roundtable discussions, Taiwo Awoniyi has turned down the opportunity to join Tunisian side Esperance, and has insisted that his first professional club must be in Europe.

Just like the Bernard Bulbwa scenario, Esperance did all they could to convince Awoniyi to hop on a plane to Tunis by offering him a five - year contract with a signing bonus of 650,000 euros.

In the proposed deal, his monthly salary was set at €40,000 and other incentives include free medical, housing and four business class tickets to Nigeria per season.

The outright rejection of The Blood and Gold has taken him back to square one but there are several teams in Europe that have opened a line of communication with his agent.

On Friday, the intermediary, as Fifa calls it these days, that brokered the deal that took Kelechi Iheanacho to Manchester City asked Taiwo Awoniyi's minders about the possibility of joining The Citizens after the Fifa Under 20s.

The interest from Manchester United and Everton has been revived, and he's also attracting attention from Olympiakos, Panathinaikos, Anderlecht, Red Bull Salzburg and Porto.

As a Cityzen, I would like the talented Wonder Kid Taiwo Awoniyi at Manchester City. However, I think FC Porto is the best bet for him. Simply because they are good at grooming World Class hitmen. The impact of Jackson Martinez is there for all to see. Also, Falcao shone there. The current coach FC Porto believes in youth and some broke into the team this season like Oliver Torres.

Nacho stands a chance at Manchester City because of his undoubted exceptional talent. I do not see a young Taiwo Awoniyi breaking in Manchester City easily.

Note, Manchester City also have some promising young strikers in Barker, Nacho, Zacharias Favour. The competition there is tough.

Methinks the player he's alluding to [as] being over aged is Success Isaac. That's the only player in Coach Garba's team with a Benin city connection. I think.

Still on the issue, Olorunleke Ojo, the 2nd choice keeper, looked way over 20 to me. He had 25+ written all over him when he tended goal at the AYC.

lol.....olorunleke looks 23 and above, the U-20 set up is one where people older than 20 can play...most are actually 21 older. Just watch the upcoming U-20 World Cup and you'll see a LOT of older guys.

If people know the training these young men go through everyday, they will not use their looks to judge.

Look at how Nacho looked at the U17, his skinny thighs and frame. Look at him now. When I played Nacho's preseason clip for my brother, he argued that the guy on the field was not Nacho until a close up view.

Look at Maduabuchi Obinwa who was really 16 years old but he failed the MRI because of excess training.

If training can make the bone formation of a young player look like that of a man, think of what training can do to the physical features.

Nwakali Joins Flying Eagles Camp

On loan Malaga midfielder, Chidiebere Nwakali, has joined the Flying Eagles camp ahead of the FIFA U20 World Cup which starts in six weeks time in New Zealand.

Nwakali swells the number of foreign-based players to twom as Tottenham Hotspur's Musa Yahaya is also in camp after recovering from the injury that kept him out of the Africa Youth Championship.

"So far we have two foreign base players in the camp with Nwakali the latest to arrive after Musa Yahaya" Secretary of the team Aliyu Ibrahim said.

"Hopefully more will arrive this weekend as they already know the coaches will only work with those he deem fit for the way we want to play at the World Cup.

On loan to Malaga from English Premier League side Manchester City, the 18-year-old trains occasionally with the first team but so far he has only been involved in games with the B team.

They are currently occupying second spot in the fourth division, well in line to gain promotion to the third division and the Under-17 World Cup winner has been pivotal in the team's promotion push.

Enaholo: I Have To Improve To Make WC Squad

Aware of the stiff competition that lies ahead before the FIFA U20 World Cup, Flying Eagles first choice goalkeeper Anthony Enaholo has said he must buckle up if he is to remain the team's first pick in New Zealand.

The MFM of Lagos goalie displaced Dele Alampasu to become Nigeria's first choice goalkeeper at the last Africa Youth Championship in Senegal, and had an impressive outing as Nigeria became African champions again.

And with the trio of former first choice, Alampasu, Leke Ojo, and Adamu Abubakar breathing down his neck, he says he must up his game to meet up with the challenge.

"I need to keep working hard and improve, I need to be on top of my game before the World Cup," he said.

"It's not going to be easy because the other guys want to go to the World Cup too, so I must prove myself again and show that I am capable of retaining my place.

"The World Cup is the biggest competition and every players wants to be there, so I must do my best to maintain my position. We have very good goalkeepers in our team which I think is good, but I must work hard to be number one."

When asked what his reaction would be if he loses his first choice role, or misses out entirely, he went philosophical.

"It's God that gives and it's him that takes," he said in a sober tone.

"I will do my best and it happens that I don't make it, I will take it in good faith. I believe in God and I believe in his will for me.

"If he says I'll be there, I'll be there. But I have to do my part by working hard," he added.

The FIFA U20 World Cup runs through May 30 - June 20 in New Zealand.

I saw a recent picture of baby face chigozie obasi of the u17. He looks so mature now. Taller, slimmer etc. It shows to me that he was u17 in 2013.

Like I said, it is possible to have players 2 years older passing MRI but it is much better than before. We know that they are all young and their bones are the right age.

please name the ones you think are over 25.

Is it Awoniyi, Yahaya, Alampasu, Iheanacho, Chidiebere, Chidera, Zaharadeen Bello or Musa Muhammad that are up to 25?

Cuz if it's any of those guys, I can get you a pic of them 2 years ago and one of them now and then you'll have to tell me if you know anyone in their 20's who has such rapid change in physique in 2 years (if you even know any)

its the recent members of the team that didn't go to the U17 world cup but are currently the main players that I believe is like 6 yrs above 20......players like Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Bernard bulbwa Ifeanyi Mattew, ojo, nwobodo

bulbwa failed MRI test 2013 and didn't go to the world cup but is now back in the team

Yahaya,chidera Eze,iheanacho awoniyi are the real u20

that doesn't matter. At least 40% of every U-20 team we'll meet at the World Cup will be over the age so no biggie.

Vidal!!! Aguero!! Sure.

2013- uruguay applied pressure to us. Il say its was a compulsory test for a knockout stage match and we passed well. But they didnt do it the way mexico and team Berisha did. I recalled an analysis where they were all referred to as macho(sweden) and team Manu as frail. When lil Chidera and Yahaya did some show, na then they con respect us grin.

South American teams! Yeah till date. We have a better win record however overall in the age-grade level.

Bulbwa passed many MRI tests during the qualifiers and also at the African u17. He failed before the world cup. If he is over age, the difference is not much. Same with mathew and alhassan. Those guys failed MRI at the last minute. CAF requires teams to do tests during qualifiers and before the tournament.

Belgian club stop Moses Simon from U20 World Cup

Nigeria have been dealt a major blow ahead of next month’s FIFA U20 World Cup after Belgian club Gent said they will not release star forward Moses Simon for the tournament because it is not on the FIFA calendar.

AfricanFootball.com can exclusively reveal that Gent will block ‘Daddy’ Moses Simon from the World Cup in New Zealand also because they say he is a very important player for them as they close in on the Belgian league title.

“Moses Simon will not be released for the World Cup because his club insist the competition is not on the FIFA calendar. This is a mistake on the part of Gent because the World Cup is on the calendar,” an official informed AfricanFootball.com

Simon, who made his Super Eagles debut last month against Uganda in Uyo, is on the provisional 35-man squad for the World Cup after he played a bit role as the Flying Eagles reached the knockout rounds of the 2013 tournament in Turkey.

Nigeria were without several key players like Isaac Success, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi, for the recent African Youth Championship in Senegal after their European clubs blocked them, arguing that the competition was not on the FIFA calendar.

The 19-year-old Simon has scored six goals in the regular season for Gent since his January transfer from Slovakia.

Gent are top of the Belgian championship playoffs ahead of Club Brugge and Anderlecht and so on course to featuring in the UEFA Champions League next season.

The playoffs will end on May 17, less than two weeks before the World Cup begins in Auckland, New Zealand.

Flying Eagles secretary, Ibrahim Aliyu Auwal, has departed for New Zealand, where he will inspect facilities at the team’s venue for next month’s FIFA U20 World Cup.

The facilities will cover such aspects as hotel boarding, stadium, training and medical.

African champions Nigeria are drawn in Group E along with Brazil, Hungary and North Korea.

They will play all their first round matches at the 46,000-capacity Yarrow Stadium, formerly known as Stadium Taranaki, in New Plymouth beginning with their opening group game against Brazil on June 1.

Auwal is due back in Nigeria later this week.

Monaco Running The Rule Over Ex- Eaglets Obasi

SL10.ng understands that Chigozie Obasi has been training with Monaco for the past one week, and he is hoping to be offered a contract at the end of trials.

The ex-Golden Eaglets midfielder caught the eye of the Principality side while featuring against them in a test game for Bastia, and was promptly invited for trials afterwards.

According to Chigozie Obasi's agent, the teenager was offered a preliminary contract by Deportivo de La Coruña last summer but the Spanish side have not paid his transfer fee, meaning the proposed move is not cast in stone.

The 16-year-old has been hawked around European clubs in recent months but Monaco could steal a march on their rivals given their financial muscle.

Obasi was one of the youngest players that represented Nigeria at the 2013 Fifa Under 17s, starring in games against Iran and Iraq.

He would join Super Eagles left - back Elderson Echiejile at the Stade Louis II if the transfer materializes.

Moses Simon's agent insists striker for World Cup

The agent of Moses Simon has insisted his player will be available for Nigeria’s Flying Eagles at next month’s FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand, saying the player’s Belgian club and the NFF have reached an agreement on this.

"I can confirm that Moses Simon will join the Nigeria U20 team after the playoffs in Belgium," according to the player's representative Tony Harris.

"The NFF and his Belgian club Gent have a good understanding regarding his participation at the FIFA U20 World Cup.

"Simon is young and passionate about playing for Nigeria. If he made the final selection, he will join the rest of the squad after the Belgian championship playoffs.

"The club are aware that the player wants to play for his country at the World Cup and there has been no objection to that."

Gent have argued the tournament is not on the FIFA calendar and as a result, the 19-year-old ‘Daddy’ Moses Simon will not be released for it.

They also stopped the forward from last month's African Youth Championship in Senegal on that ground.

Moses Simon Injury Stunts His Goal Run

An ankle injury has stopped Moses Simon's whirlwind start to the Belgium playoffs as he was absent from the team 3-1 victory over Standard Liege.

In the playoffs the Super Eagles and Gent forward started by scoring a goal in the opening game against Kotrijk and shone in the 2-1 victory over Charleroi when he was introduced in the second half.

The 19-year-old confirmed to SL10.ng that his absence from the victory over Standard Liege was as a result of an ankle injury he sustained in their first game of the playoffs.

"I missed the game as my coach wants me to rest properly, I'm glad we won and that is more important than me playing," he told SL10.ng

On how long he is expected to be out, the petit forward, who has scored 7 times from the 11 games he has so far played for Gent since joining from Slovakia AS Trencin, stressed he is back in training,

"I trained fully a day before the game against Standard Liege but like I said the decision for me to rest was taken by the manager and it was for my good".

Moses will be hoping he shakes off the injury completely ahead of preparations for the Under-20 world cup in New Zealand as he has been named in Nigeria 35 man provisional world cup list.

Musa Muhammed Resumes Training With Flying Eagles

Captain of the Flying Eagles of Nigeria Musa Mohammed, who reportedly absconded from the camp of the Nigeria Under-23s, is presently training with the Under-20.

Musa, according to handlers of the Nigeria Under-23s, left the camp without consent ahead of their all important second leg game in the All Africa games qualifier against Zambia in Lusaka.

Initial reports suggest the AYC top scorer travelled to Germany en-route to Turkey but SL10.ng learnt he didn't travel as reported.

Flying Eagles team sources revealed there is confusion as to why the player left the team camp as he has his own story which is different from the one told by the handlers of the team.

However, doubts still persists if he travelled out as he was among the earliest to arrive for the team camp when they resumed training for preparations for the Under-20 World cup in New Zealand.

Linked with several European teams, the FC Hart full back reportedly will make a move after the World cup after he failed to secure visa to travel to where he was suppose to sign a pre contract.

In the past, Besiktas were rumoured to have been favourite for his signature but latest reports indicates teams from the German Bundesliga and Red Bull Salzburg in Austria are also keen for his services.

Enyimba midfielder Kingsley Sokari is the only player who is yet to join the Flying Eagles training camp in Abuja ahead of next month’s FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Sokari, who has been capped at full international and U23 levels, featured for Enyimba in a league game at Kano Pillars on Sunday and he is now expected to join the Flying Eagles camp thereafter.

Thirty players trained Monday morning at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja as the battle for places in the final 21-man squad for the World Cup intensified.

The team will train twice a day till Friday, according to coach Garba Manu, who insisted that all squad places for the World Cup are up for grabs.

Officials said the four Europe-based players will join the squad at their training camp in Germany next month.

The players are Wilfred Ndidi (Genk, Belgium), Moses Simon (Gent, Belgium), Isaac Success (Granada, Spain) and Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City, England).

The Flying Eagles are drawn in a first round group that has Brazil, Hungary and North Korea.

They begin their campaign on June 1 against Brazil in New Plymouth.

Btw Fantastic MOTM Performance by Isaac Success for Granada against Sevilla in d La liga on Sunday. Was unstoppable against d sevilla defence and Deserved to score a goal or two
But Personally, I don't think granada is a good club for Success or any nigerian striker.
They make Good strikers look shit becos they are a team with poor midfielders that don't create chances.
In d game on sunday success was d one doing everything. At times due to no supply, he had to drop deep to d midfield to get the ball and create openings for himself and his teammates.
No creativity in that team at all.
Thats why he keeps performing well but struggle to score goals.
If he was in a midtable team like Malaga or Sociedad, im certain he'd have scored 8+ goals by now.

Enyimba Prevent Sokari From Joining Flying Eagles

Enyimba midfielder Kingsley Sokari will not join the Nigeria Under 20s training camp before Friday due to club commitments with the Nigeria Professional Football League vice-champions.

Flying Eagles coach, Manu Garba, has named the playmaker in his 35-man provisional squad as his team continues fine-tuning their strategies in Abuja before the tournament in New Zealand.

Enyimba chiefs are aware that their midfield maestro could be missing for up to two months if the Nigeria Under 20s qualifies for the knock-out rounds, and have decided to make use of his services one last time before releasing him to the national team.

''I am now in Taraba with Enyimba, we have a match against Taraba United tomorrow,'' Kingsley Sokari told SL10.ng.

''I will be in the Flying Eagles camp on Friday. We are coming back from Taraba on Thursday and I'll have to return to Aba to pack my belongings before heading to camp.

''I have been in touch with coach Manu Garba, and he said I should come to camp immediately.

''I think Enyimba will get in touch with the Under 20 coaching staff today to inform them of the development.''

The 19-year-old Kingsley Sokari has caps for Nigeria's senior team and the Dream Team VI.

Mulder: PSV Must Replace Depay With Simon

Respected sports analyst Jan Mulder says PSV Eindhoven should bid for KAA Gent's Moses Simon as a replacement for the highly coveted Memphis Depay.

Depay is heavily tipped to depart the Dutch Champions this summer, with a bid from Manchester United already confirmed by his club aside from rumours linking him to other teams in England. Mulder suggested that Moses Simon should be targeted by PSV as replacement.

Mulder believes a bid of around 15 million Euros should be enough to prize the 19-year-old from the Belgian league title-hopefuls. Moses has scored 7 goals in the 11 games he has played for the Gent since his move from Slovakia AS Trencin in January.

He views PSV as a good stepping stone for Simon who has had a whirlwind year in Europe, scoring 20 goals in 44 games for both AS Trencin and Gent as well as winning several man of the match awards.

"I'm not trying to extort money from PSV but I believe they will make a lot of money from the sale of Depay and 15 million euros for Simon will be good business as he will more than make up for the loss of Depay," he told Extra Time.

"For Simon, PSV will be a good step up as they are the champions and will play in the Champions League.

Already capped twice by Nigeria at senior level, Simon is currently nursing an ankle injury and trained away from his team-mates in yesterday's training session.
