Are we having conflict of ideologies already? undecided

Senator Bukola Saraki has stated that declaration of assets by politicians and public office holders would not make anyone less corrupt or accountable to the people.

Saraki who made this assertion in an interactive session with Tribune said “I don’t think it is declaration of assets that would make you less corrupt or more accountable.”

He however made this claim against the declaration by President-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari that anyone who must work with him should declare his assets publicly in order to halt corruption and enhance transparency.

“I pledge to publicly declare my assets and liabilities, encourage all my appointees to publicity declare their assets and liabilities as a pre-condition for appointment.” Buhari stated.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress, APC Senator observed that declaration of assets should not be taken as an issue.

He said “I think it is your own individual commitment to your party and leadership provided.”

“Leadership is very important because the leader leads by example. Honestly, things will change. Instead of sitting with the president to seek favour, you come home and sit down with your people so that you can have the better chance of winning election.” He added

Saraki representing Kwara Central senatorial district noted that the key areas which would be addressed by the incoming ACP-led government are the issues of corruption, security and jobs for youths in the country.

He noted that “There would be zero tolerance for corruption and because of the backdrop of that, you begin to see revenue coming up and you will have more money for infrastructural development.

Lol..better put, "Saraki defends himself, says asset declaration can't stop corruption"...This is because his hands are not clean.

Saraki needs to be told that there is no way corruption can be stopped totally. It can only be reduced drastically. And if he has no skeleton in his cupboard, he shld shut d fvck up and support buhari's asset declaration idea and other reasonable ideas that may come up subsequently..its too early to be having conflicting ideas.

Public Declaration of Assets will not be an end in itself, it will be an important first step in the anti-corruption crusade of the GMB government - more like "coming to equity with clean hands".

You can be sure that there will be other actions like Sacking, Prosecution, imprisonment, etc of corrupt public officials during this government.

I do not trust GMB to stop ALL corruption, but I trust him to strengthen the anti-corruption agencies and also to deal decisively with any of his officials seen to be corrupt.

When Nigerians say a president should stop corruption, what do they mean anyway?

Is it corruption in the Judiciary, legislature or the executive arm of the federal government?
Is it the corruption in the local government council administrations or state governments?
Is it the corruption in churches?
Is it the corruption that has infested the psyche of almost every nigerian above the age of 12?

grin grin

From the stated source, i know it's definitely a lie. Saraki never said such. This is how PDP, even after a great loss, continues to spread lies.

That's why GMB is the boss. If you'll have an appointment in his Govt then be ready to declare your assets.

Saraki is a Senator not a political appointee that's his saving grace.

If the same source had praised GMB, it would have been a credible source, just like the irresponsible Saharareporters.

Would the word hypocrisy be out of place here? undecided

Same issue I have raised a thousand times in my discussions with friends and associates. It's a big joke to say that Buhari can successfully fight corruption - even within the executive arm of government. At best he will prevent himself from being corrupt. There's not much he can do to stop even his own ministers and countless heads of government departments, agencies and parastatals. Jonathan's preventative and systematic measures held more promise than the punitive, brash, coercive, and old fashioned 'gra gra' approach Buhari might want to adopt. Thieves in the executive arm will only get smarter to avoid being caught and the business of corruption would continue as usual.

As for corruption in the legislature, judiciary, States and local council areas, and other facets of our national life, Buhari cannot do jack.

Exactly, I Ve always said it, that corruption is broad, it's not a one day thing, it's not a small thing to deal with, it's not even a 19years thing to deal with,
It's just a personal thing.
D only way to fight it is to fight it from within us, every citizen has this inborn corruption thing.
U can't go to d churches, homes, schools{from nursery to tertiary} market, shops, etc, when I hear someone say I will fight corruption, I just imagine a system with soldiers or computers in everybody's head, so that d moment u do slightest mistake even if it's to cheat ur dad with common 20naira balance, u r caught grin grin grin
The major part of d fight is our personal fight, n not d govt, .
Maybe d govt will fight corruption only in d governmental level, but to d best of my knowledge, corruption is broad, .too broad a thing to b dealt with.

Those of you above saying a President cannot stop corruption, it is too late for that.
Buhari must eliminate corruption, that is what we were promised.

The same person who is accusing a president being corrupt bribed a lecturer in order to get good grades in exams. Hypocrisy!

For every Nigerian who is honest, well-mannered, and diligent you’ll find a hundred whose only goal is to get some money whilst expending the minimum amount of effort possible. If they can use personal connections, lies, or trickery in lieu of learning a useful skill and applying it, they’ll take that option every time. It’s a numbers thing: if 50% of Nigerians were more like 10% of them, the country would be okay. And that’s the fundamental problem of Nigeria summed up in one sentence: way too many dickheads.

People keep saying let them declare their assets, throw them in jail etc. but how will that stop corruption especially in low places?
It goes to show that when people talk of corruption, they only think about politicians.
