Director General is like the Managing Director. He is responsible for the day to day running of the organisation.

Chairman is non-executive, that is he is part-time and not involved in day to day running. He will chair the occasional Board of Directors' meeting to decide the policies of the Organisation and the Board also provides the oversight functions on the executive management headed by the DG.

In SEC peculiar circumstance, the DG is more known and more powerful but administratively junior to the chairman. E.g. Almost everybody knows Oteh but how many people know the outgone SEC chairman?
