If you are an Interviewer here and you disqualify anyone because of all these silly things i'm reading here.

"E no go better for you"

Read the write up well, the writer didnt say 'phone number', she said 'number'

They actually meant her expected salary

Many interviewers have various professional as well as personal reasons why they won't call you back.
Note that interviewers have a list of questions that they are supposed to ask you and at the end of the interview, they are expected to write a summary of your response to each question. In addition, they are expected to write an overall summary and recommendation (if HR expects them to).

I have interviewed many fresh graduates in the past both home and abroad and recognise that expert knowledge of a specific area is not required since they don't have experience. In such cases, Interviewers would usually be assessing skills relevant to workplace such as communication, problem solving, teamwork, analytical, leadership, organisation, etc and the questions asked will be tailored towards such skills. An interviewer could ask you questions relating to NYSC experience, project work in school, Industrial Experience, Group work, etc as they can give an indication of your work skills.

As for me, here are some of the things I watch out for and which may not get an interviewee a favourable outcome:
- Overconfidence/lack of humility (bordering on arrogance)
- Poor oral communication skills
- Incoherent responses to questions
- Answering questions wrongly even when the questions have been re-clarified (It is acceptable to ask if you didn't understand the question)
- Not asking intelligent or good questions when asked at the end of the interview if you have any question
- Inability to remain calm during an interview even when the environment is not tense
- Poor understanding of the role's expectation and/or what the organisation does
- No indication that you like to take on leadership roles
- Not being oneself (over acting)
- Little indication that you have been involved in solving problems

Note that if an interviewer feels like they cannot work well with you or you cannot fit in with the culture of the organisation, then they are likely not to recommend you for the job.

Thanks bro. Since you have been on interview panels hitherto, what line of questions do u think would be OK to ask?

I hate that salary question. You can never get it right.

when such question arises in an interview.. simply change the tone of your voice, look him or her straight into the eyes, and say,: " Trust is an important ingredient in any organization, and for that reason I humbly trust the management of this prestigious firm to pay me a fair and deserving salary!!!"

Mine was in a telecoms company. I mentioned a figure twice of what the company pays for that position, but they simply told me what they pay and asked if I could manage that.
I said yes and I got the job.

Not really. Just a snippet, like a demodemo it was buggy as hell. I did only a small map but the code was poor. Couldnt handle collision detection, sound was awful, kept crashing.

Ive moved to mobile stuff now, working on android apps. I hate java but hey, mobile is where the money is at.

Mine was with one of d big 4 audit firm. I realized I wouldn't be called for the next stage when my interviewer asked "did u think it is ur grade that will work for us here?". Regret mail landed after a week.

Not in this world!
It wasn't as if I was having issues at the office then. It was just that work was getting too monotonous they refused to transfer me to another department. It got so bad I willingly offered to work with the IT department at no extra cost to the office. If they had offered me same salary as I was earning then, I would have gladly left for the new place.

Oh okay, I understand now

By 'number' they mean the pay you think you're worth, not your phone number.

The salary question is best answered by referring to the industry standard, then factor in your qualifications and experience.

Give an example as ammunition for next time

I want to expatiate more on the guy that went for an interview with radio station.
First, some people here are replacing numbers to mean salary. Well, from my little experience, what I believe can be used interchangeably with salary, should be figures and not numbers. And I also believe that, when one is being asked a question, that seems confusing, the interviewee should humbly ask the interviewer, for proper clarification or to say 'I don't understand what you are asking Ma or Sir', afterall, an interview is a two-way communication process.

...but I remember vividly in 100 level use of English, under telephone etiquette. It was clearly stated that we say the alphabet O instead of zero when dealing with phone numbers and I've seen the same online too. I'm not arguing, I can learn something new today. Just educate me why you think it's wrong. Thank you.

It's wrong because it clearly says phone NUMBERS not phone alphabet.......0 is a number while 0 (oh) is an alphabet, hence the latter shouldn't be used in this case.

Let's try to learn from each other just as the guy as pointed out. Remember that English as a language has its origin. For the sake of learning, let's give other the chance to proof their point. Check out the link in the previous post of chinkinchun. Read it for learning process and not for criticism. Thanks.

No offence, but if that's your only reason, you're wrong. I already cited higher authorities that said otherwise. English is tricky you know, so I'll stick with what the alphabetic method till I'm convinced beyond doubt it's wrong. Thanks.

Too bad... One thing I learnt from 100 level GST (use of English) is that you don't pronounce the '0' in phone numbers as zero. Instead, you pronounce it as the alphabet O. I guess that really matters to them since it's a radio firm.

But I swear, na zero dey quick enter person mouth... grin... Zero 8 zero

actually the correct way of pronouncing it is zero and not O,the only glitch is he should have included the +234 then start wit 80,thats if what they needed was the phone number.
