A brutal fight and no soldier died? nawa oo, unless this man is not telling us everything.

Haha...ibos believe anything! This man might have sown the seed of another mega defeat for chest beaters who would rather walk into their death trap on a whiff of emotion rather than consult their common sense!

So, don't you have sense to see that while the Yoruba commander defeated thousands of ibos with 179 soldiers and average armament, he had 1,000,000,000,000+ more of strategy to it, took the right decisions in the heat of the moment and defeated the entire BeastaFra expedition! He defended the most critical point of weakness and I can bet you all the retreating soldiers would have been completely annihilated if they continued to assault the bridge.

Take a lesson from that and the battle of the 300 at Thermopylae, at that narrow pass where King Leonidas caused Persian King Xerxes' perhaps 100,000 strong troops to be crushed on their shields and spears! Watch how Leonidas says the strategy was to be funnelled into the narrow pass? There their numbers counted for nothing, their superior weapons counted for nothing and waves and waves of Persian soldiers to be destroyed! That is the stuff military strategists are made of, not empty boasting! Even Colonel Iluyomade provided more leadership, won more territories and destroyed more enemy soldiers than runaway Onujukwu himself, the war monger!

Na wah, so 179 Nigerian soldiers led by another Yoruba Commander Colonel Iluyomade set up base 40 miles away from Ore village, right on the extreme outskirts of Yorubaland and destroyed thousands of enemy soldiers and sent them back running and empty handed in the thick of midnight, under heavy rains! Ibos should be very grateful to Yorubas and they must know it because on that night, the Nigerian soldiers led by this illustrious Yoruba son and commander could have pursued and ensured no ibo escaped and destroyed them all! Kudos to the greatest soldiers and commanders in Nigeria, who still allow the milk of human compassion to flow in their veins when their enemy is at the end of their sword and barrel of their gun.

Even, I would guess that God will look down in kindness on such a people who did not shed the blood of ibo soldiers when they could have! The same thing David could have done to Saul, but he saw beyond the moment and emotion!

God bless the Yorubas indeed and much more forever!!!

I just want to clear the air about this allegation of Ojukwu wanting to annex Lagos and other people's lands. be frank with yourself too, was it wrong to make a push towards the enemies capital?

Same chest beating by Ojukwu that he has the best army ever. War is not by making noise, you sit comfortably in your house and talking about winning another war if it happens. Smh

You have not made any sense with all that junk you wrote up there. This man is obviously not saying all that transpired. besides, Banjo withdrew and surrendered miles of captured ground to Nigeria without a fight and the question is why?

The man also said that they confused the Biafran soldiers did you read that too? You are free to believe whatever you wish but I know that if the Biafran forces had crossed the said bridge they would have killed all 179 soldiers there.

so if he did not,why must u now call people who has not been in agreement with you or any tribe betrayal?anyway I ve documented files, video and written documents that clarify reasons why ojukwu refused to seek for an alliance because he believed other tribe from the south and west are conquered territory,an evidence is forcing calabar, ogoni people to be part of the war when he never for once consult them to seek their support,I won't say much but if u believe u guys can win anywar as of today please go ahead but don't call anyone a betrayal if u are defeated. .....afterall ojukwu vowed to defeat the nigeria nation within 6months but we see what later ends it.

^^^Your link is for something not related to what i asked for!

However, i did do a search of my own and found one instance where it was reported the Nigerian gov't accused Biafra of bombing a neighbourhood! No pictures......nothing! On the other hand, there were tons of reports of Biafra accusing Nigeria of bombing schools, hospitals, farms, etc! The only difference this time is that not only do we have independent corroboration of all this, but we also have video and pictorial evidence to back up the assertions!

Were Biafrans saints? I'm sure they weren't!.....But one thing i've come to realize is that in war truth is the first casualty!

What i find hard to understand is, we don't like or trust ourselves yet some want this fraud of a country to continue existing! Igbos are making moves -no matter what you may think of said moves- to try and end this charade; but Yoruba and Hausa/Fulani are doing absolutely nothing to try and end this relationship with the Igbo they're burdened with!

After reading this story, i've found out that the Northerners are the real cowards and greedy people. The war was fought and won by the Yorubas, but the Northerners hijacked everything and neglected the true heros.

How come we never heard of those names or see them excelling in the country which they fought so gallantly to defend? This is what every Southerner/Yoruba should be worried about, but it's a shame nobody is talking about this.

truefact:
Yorubas are visionless. Awolowo never believed in anything that's why he died like nothing. He is coward. He has no choice of his. Zik bring him to nigeria, Gowon kept him in Nigeria even to this days.

Yorubas fight for your own country. ..Nigeria is not a country. ..

It is Yoruba cowardice and timidity that make them want Igbos to remain in Nigeria. Igbos give those cowards a kind of protection and cover from their masters up north. That is why if igbos secede now, yorubas will secede from their Hausa masters.

Yorubas fight for your country. Nigeria is a mere geographical expression. .didn't your hero said that? You lot are lazy cowards with no vision. Your only vision is ND oil

Your hero committed suicide. Your hero is coward who never fight for your freedom. Your hero had no choice of his, remember Zik made him accept nigeria and Gowon made him stay in Nigeria. Your hero believed nothing and die like nothing. ..WHAT A BIG SHAME

After deployment of troops, I rose up from my trench at about 12 midnight, it started to rain heavily, but I told the troops not to leave their trenches. So, we dug in. Then, when I saw the skyline of the vehicles of the Biafran soldiers coming towards us, I shouted that no one should fire except me. And the battle started minutes past midnight. But the bridge was so heavy that they could not penetrate. If they had known that we had a small number, maybe they could have made the effort to penetrate. So we confused them, the place was well secured and we never lost any soldier.

There was no real fight at Ore, recall that Banjo the Yoruba man withdraw and handed over miles of captured territory to Nigeria without a fight!

At the bold part what does he mean by the bridge being so heavy? Notice that he said they confused the advancing Biafran soldiers. What I understand from here is that there was no major confrontation at that bridge; you can see that he said no soldier died.

This was just a mistake on the Biafran side, if they had moved beyond the said bridge they would have killed all those 179 soldiers there. Besides, we don't know exactly how many Biafran soldiers were involved in that operation. Biafra was fighting at different fronts with the big Nigeria.

I really do not see the need for this rendition. In war, sides lose some and win some. So trying so hard to paint a picture you've concocted from your interpretation makes no sense. You should probably read the excerpt from the book you emboldened over and over till you get a full grasp of it but I'm afraid your mind is already wired to see a static picture which you want to see so as not to bruise the Biafran ego.

At the emboldened parts from your post:

1. Confusing your opponent is another brilliant tactic of warfare. It goes to show superior intelligence in combat - the colonel was brilliant enough not to throw his men in the line of fire unlike the other colonel who had 3 million of his kin roasted.

2. Read the excerpt again; he meant none of his own men died not the Biafran troops.

3. The mistake(plotting and taking advantage) of a defender is what makes a brilliant striker - mistake is never an excuse. It goes to show the level of military competence. Using words such as 'if' would not make any sense to discerning mind, the colonel's troops were bright enough not to give the Biafran troops the option of considering the 'if' - between, wasn't Murtala badly defeated 3 times by Biafran troops during his attempts at crossing the river?

Yoruba officers/sons were exceptional during the war. Left to Biafra and Arewa alone, it would probably have been a different story. Note the tide of war changed when y'all set your eyes on the rotten 'local' apple - Lagos.

Regards.

You're going down the road of fantasies. No one has the monopoly of violence and to begin chit chat and chest beat over who would win an imaginary war is at best childish.

War is not a new trade to Yoruba, ask the fulani about the Osogbo war and Jalumi war.

Ask Ojukwu about Benjamin Adekunle, Iluyomade, Alabi Isama and the sage awolowo.

Very apt!
Since Britian and S.Union after supplying arms and ammunitions also sent a large number of foot soldiers to the battle front while N.Army sat back and relaxed. Not to forget, British and Soviet generals drew the offensive formations, pinned the maps and provided the logistics since they were much more familiar with Nigerian terrain than the N.army.

You, my friend, are very bright.

Rubbish. adekunle was busy killing women and children around the outskirts of Biafra while the real men went ahead into action under Etuk. Etuk was the brilliant commander under Adekunle.

Biafra destroyed 1/3 of the 3rd marine commandoes even before Adekunle would start operation OAU.

You need to know that most of these people including the OP have a desperate need to hold on to past "glory"... because when they look all around them now... its Igbo growth that is spreading into their lands life wildfire... little do they know that the "glory" they even hold on to and want to recant and retell to suit their fantasy is a false one... ask them if they know the ratio of military casualties and watch them go mute.

Ask them why Adekunli did not fulfill his promise to Gowon and watch them go mute...

Ask them what Odekunli saw when he got into the middle of Igboland where he vowed to shoot at everything moving and non-moving... and watch them go mute...

The real men fight while the women, they say, tell the stories.
