It is time to really give the lower Niger idea a big thought! the parasites from the North and their slaves in the SW were fighting for power at all cost so that they can steal the oil wells whose contracts are all due for renewal next year, and are banking on sharing them all out again to their Northern brothers, but this time around they will be hugely disappointed, the Niger delta of today is not the the same as that of the 1960's and 1970's when the north did as they please. this time around the oil well contract will be well scrutinized.

A referendum on the federation of Lower Niger delta republic may just be one of the options that may prove useful for the struggle!

you are not doing the cause any good by talking about the past, better dwell on the future, and pass on a message of a better future. the truth is that the relationship of the igbo's to the other minorities in then then biafran struggle was not a good one, don't wake up those old feelings with arguments you will not win.
lets hope that both sides have learnt their lessons and will do better and work harder for a better relationship today in line with the current development.

We have people like that in our reegion. The referendum shall determine those who wants to stay with the fraud called Nigeria and those that seek freedom in Biafraland. I assure you that Majority of our people are for Freedom..

I'm a niger deltan, from the SS of nigeria(delta state to be specific), i've been reading so many news on biafra lately on nairaland and it interested me so much. Should the Ibos active their biafra dream, what'll be the fate and hope of the SS? Will the south west too not cooperate with the north to frustate the common S.Southerner. This is a call to the SS let's not be quiet and allow ibos go like that, let's join them whether we feel we have the better resources and they do not. One thing I've come to realise is that whether they only engage in buying and selling, the average ibo man will survive as long as there's a will and self determination. Let's not be blind, let's not allow the fear of the unknown to prevent us from making this move or later we may be the ones calling for our own 'niger delta republic' yes our own country. Let's do this to prevent a future catastrophe. Okay, should the Ibos go, will there not be a parasitic association between the SS, SW and the North. They depend on our oil to develop their own states while in return we have little to gain from them. Should they go, what makes us think the northerners and their wife(SW) will not bestow upon us the ill treatments given to ibos. Let's think twice now, let's join and fight for biafra or we may live to regret it later and by then it may be too late.

If you think that the SS will play second fiddle in Biafra then that's even an improvement. When Buhari takes over in 2 weeks time, the SS won't even play 'fifth fiddle' in Nigeria. As for saying that it's impossible for Nigeria to disintegrate, I'll let you know that nobody can hold anybody prisoner once there is determination to be free. Guns and bullets formed Nigeria and guns and bullets can end it.When it comes to the matter of the SS, I stress to add that not all of what the SS should be part of the new Biafra. Edo state and parts Delta state like Isoko,Itshekiri and Urohbos should not be part of Biafra unless they show commitment to the cause. The last thing Biafra needs are are a bunch of trouble makers and saboteurs undermining us. The SS and SE should unite and leave this British invented wasteland called Nigeria. When we get our freedom,if we don't agree,we can further split up into the republics of the Niger Delta and Republic of Biafra. Well, SS and SE dont need to secede to succeed in Nigeria as regions. They just need to collaborate regionally. If people especially Igbos had looked towards the se and built it up all these years instead of spreading their efforts thinly around Nigeria, especially outside of the se region it would be a different story by now.

there is a need for looking inward and collaboration between states and regions rather than separation. Be more self sufficient first.

i agree totally that the name should not be Biafra or have anything pertining to Niger Delta or South East etc, if it is to be a se/ss effort. I also agree that there are other options of ss and se having separate efforts to achieve a similar aim in respective regions.
I still believe alot can be achieved within Nigeria but regionally.Personally, that is my preferred option.

well, there's nothing wrong with SS republic, it's welcome. SS and SE have always been peaceful with each other, so joining them too is not bad. I don't want SE to leave with the fate of SS undecided.

in the spirit of equality and friendship, the five Diets that make up the FLN would answer the name Atlantis while Biafra would be restricted to the Diet/Parliament of Igbo land.

I know that, but the name 'biafra' has evolved to almost be synonymous with 'Igbo', making is seem to be purely an Igbo struggle, and not for the entire former eastern nigeria. The 'bia' in biafra isn't helping matters either. Since the last 20 years, the tribe that has been keeping up the struggle for biafra has only been Igbos. You barely find Ijaw or Ibibio nationals in biafran movements. Thus making the quest for actualization of biafra seem like an Igbo-only movement. 'Igbo' quickly comes to mind when 'biafra' is mentioned. The Ijaws, Efiks, Ibibios etc don't feel like they belong in the struggle. Let us be honest, if a vote of referendum is held in SS and SE today, except Edo state, for a country under the name 'Biafra', at least half of SSers will vote 'no'.

To avoid this, we have to be sensitive to people's plight and needs. A new name has to be adopted which would make every tribe in the lower niger have a sense of belonging in the quest for their own country. A country which would be just the Ibibio's, Ijaw's, Efik's just as it is for Igbos. A country where they have direct access to and control over their own resources. A country based on equality and fairness. Minorities need to be assured of this. Also, minorities need to be represented in more numbers in the quest for independence of the lower niger. In radio 'biafra' for example, ibibios and ijaws should be drafted to give speeches over the air, not just Igbos, and in their languages equally. What south southerners need is sensitization and the reason to believe they have full interest in the new country. Right now, they don't have such.

The moment you give minorities the reason to believe that they fully belong in the new country to come, they will vote massively for it.
