Lawal Happy With Inclusion Of Olorunleke

Kogi United assistant coach Lawal Wasiu Jimoh has hailed the inclusion of Goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo in the Flying Eagles squad for the U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

The lanky goalkeeper has been rewarded for his performance in the camping exercise the team embarked on in Germany with a place in Manu Garba's 21-man squad ahead of the World Cup.

The fair skinned custodian was part of the Nigerian team that won the 2015 Orange African Youth Championship and Coach Lawal says he is happy the young Goalkeeper has been given the chance to prove his worth in the team.

“I am happy for him because he is a good boy, who knows what to do behind the sticks. His inclusion was well justified and Nigerian Professional Football League followers can attest to the brilliant performance of Leke, who has a great future ahead of him,” Lawal told SL10 reporter Ademetan Abayomi.

“If this time round the handlers of the team have realised he is worth it, I think he deserves it. It is time for him to prove his worth in the team,” the former Wikki Tourists goalkeeper added.

Other goalkeepers picked for the Youth Tournament are Joshua Enaholo and Dele Alampasu.

Nigeria have been drawn in Group E of the U20 World Cup alongside Brazil, North Korea and Hungary.

The competition is due to take place in New Zealand from 30th May to 20th June.

I'm disappointed with the inclusion of leke because he will likely give opposers reason to doubt the age of the boys, but apologies to him if he aren't truly overaged.

Bros..
Benjamin Francis's cross assist was the only thing he did right all day! That guy was a collosal flop in that match!

As the game wore on, the Italians soon realized that our left side was totally nonexistent and started making bombarding runs through that end..oneof wich resulted in a goal before pirlo came on and totally grabbed the game by the scuff of its neck till the Italians equalized.

Abeg... no one should mention that old papa's name near the eagles lineup ever again..PLEASE!...he was sooo bad that he didn't know whom to mark anymore..hence retreating backwards into our 18yard box and even causing more confusion with the centrebacks.

Shet.. I no suppose even comment on Keshi's eagles matter sef.. the sight of that Coach just makes my blood boil anytime iremember his lackluster and extremely boring style of coaching.

Tuuueeeh!!! angry

Your start just says it all. Watch the highlights, the pressure did not come from Benjamin Francis but Solomon Kwambe. The flop of the match was Kwambe Solomon, not Francis. That was why Francis injury before the CHAN was heart breaking.

You are getting it wrong. It was the right the Italians bombarded. Look at Giacherrini's goal. Kwambe Solomon left him unmarked to score. That will remind you that it was the right, and not the left.

Without Pirlo, we dominated the game. That shows Coach Keshi is not as poor as people like you make him look.

Well im sure Monaco doesn't feel the same, i saw Echiejile against Arsenal and he was brilliant his only problem is he plays the same position as an under 20 French player if not he would be getting more game action. We missed him at the world cup especially against France where we got nothing from that position. Oshaniwa can be very inconsistent although i don't doubt his abilities.

We did not miss that guy at all. I actually celebrated his injury because he pulled the squad back. Oshaniwa is three times a better player than Echiejile.

Do you remember how many wayward crosses that Echiejile gave in every game he plays. Like he makes one out of five chances.

We have to admit in hindsight that Iheanacho did the right thing by ditching Keshi, he saw the world played with and against some of the best of our era and now he is going to walk into Man City first team. What i love about this kid is the same damn thing i love about the whole team all of them want to be great and they know playing as a team is the only way. Yes! they are the FUTURE!

I disagree with you. On some forums, City fans ask, if Nacho is so great, how come he never played for his National team.

If Nacho played CHAN, he would have had his work permit earlier and would not have missed a great chance to play for City when he went to USA.

As in eh. This is funny. The boy can miss goals. Haba.

When one top club signs Awoniyi, he should pay these coaches a lot of money because the amount of time it took them to train his finishing was a lot.

The important thing is that the Young Man is learning.

Guys let's discuss . To me I feel it has been their style, building up attack from the back and most importantly their fast tiki -taka style and starving their opponents of the ball has always been their strength . If the Nunberg coach knows that why didn't he counter them and stop them from scoring upto 5goals ?

Please delete the first one, the poster of that article should delete it too. Our boys are the favorites of the competition. There is a lot of research study on how to stop this team.

Let us not help anyone browsing for a weak point.

I have my reasons.

How do we know City signs him if he goes to CHAN, from my knowledge City told him not to participate.

You have to understand he hasn't missed much the boy is only 18. The thing is Man City had a plan the whole time and now we see it.

Dropped Flying Eagles wish team well at World Cup

Several of the players who failed to make the final squad to the U20 World Cup in New Zealand have wished their successful colleagues the best at the tournament.

On Friday, the Flying Eagles named a final 21-man squad for the 2015 World Cup, which begins on May 30 in New Zealand.

Abdullahi Ibrahim Alhassan ‘Muazam’ said he has taken his failure to make it to New Zealand in good faith and prayed that those picked for the World Cup will go all the way to win the competition.

“Yes, I was disappointed not to make it to the World Cup, but not all of us can be in New Zealand,” he said.

“I have told my family not to be worried as I still have my future in the game ahead of me.

“I have charged my friends who made the list to fight for Nigeria to be world champions now.”

He continued: “The biggest disappointment in my career was when I was dropped just days to the CAF U17 Championship in Morocco two years ago. It was like the end of the world for me, but you can see that I have since bounced back.

“I will now get set to join my new club in Belgium and wait for my next opportunity with any of the national teams.”

‘Muazam’ will join his new club Westerlo in Belgium by June 10 ahead of pre-season training five days later.

Fellow striker Christian Pyagbara failed to feature in his second U20 World Cup and he said he will return to Nigeria to sort out his future.

“I have taken everything in good faith and I will now return to my club while wishing the team the best of luck at the World Cup,” he said.

A transfer to city rivals Dolphins has collapsed and Pyagbara will now have to return to Sharks, where he scored 14 goals last season.

He is also wanted at Tunisia’s Club Africain.

The other players who will head home are Abdullahi Alfa, Adamu Abubakar, Usman Hassan, Samuel Okon, Bashiru Monsuru, Saheed Abdulganiyu and Wasiu Jimoh.

Iheanacho, Success join Flying Eagles in New Zealand

Euro-based Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac Success and Moses Simon will all join the Flying Eagles separately at the U20 World Cup in New Zealand, officials disclosed.

Iheanacho, Success and Simon have all been named on Nigeria final 21-man squad for the World Cup, but could not join the rest of the squad in a training camp in Nurnberg, Germany, after their clubs refused to release them in time.

Coach Manu Garba therefore had to pick the players based on their current form at their respective clubs.

Iheanacho has been booked to fly out to New Zealand via Singapore on May 24, while Success will fly out to the World Cup from Malaga.

Gent forward Simon will be the last player to join the Flying Eagles as his last game of the season will be on May 24 in a Belgian championship playoff against Anderlecht.

Gent lead the standings after seven matches with 43 points, two points ahead of closest rivals Anderlecht.

Nig vs Bra. June1, 2am. My starting line up:
4-3-3:
...............Enaholo
Mohammed..Omego..Ndidi..Mustafa
.............Idowu.............Ifeanyi
...................Sokari
...Bulbwa....................Yahaya
.................Awoniyi

Subs:
Depending of how the game is progressing, considering d like for like option:
Iheanacho for Bulbwa,
Moses for Yahaya
Success for Awoniyi
If the game is nt progressing in our favour:
Iheanacho for Sokari
Success for Awoniyi
Moses for Ifeanyi, so Yahaya joins Awoniyi/Success as a second center forward and Moses plays d Left Wing Forward.
Or Bulbwa off Success in and joins Awoniyi as CF while Moses comes in for either Idowu or Ifeanyi & moves to d right wing.
So many tactical options, infact this team is too much

Dropped Flying Eagles Home Wednesday.
The nine Flying Eagles players who failed to make the final 21-man squad for the forthcoming U20 World Cup in New Zealand will return to Nigeria from Germany on Wednesday, officials disclosed.
The affected players are Christian Pyagbara, Abdullahi Ibrahim Alhassan ‘Muazam’, Abdullahi Alfa, Adamu Abubakar, Usman Hassan, Samuel Okon, Bashiru Monsuru, Saheed Abdulganiyu and Wasiu Jimoh.
All these players bar Monsuru featured at the African Youth Championship in Senegal in March, when Nigeria won a record seventh tournament.
The Flying Eagles have been training in Nurnberg, Germany, since May 3 ahead of the World Cup in New Zeland, where they are drawn in the first round against five-time champions Brazil, North Korea and Hungary.
They play their first match on June 1 against Brazil in New Plymouth.

We all know they are extremely good and the first match against Brazil would be very important for them. Kudos to Joseph and the others who regularly fill us with updates. Is it time to find an ‘Oyinbo’ coach for Nigeria's youth teams?
A WriteUp by Prof Patrick Omo-Osagie

This is an undisputable football fact; Nigeria has the best youth programme in the world of football. We have won four FIFA U16/17 tournaments and we have placed second (twice) and third in the U20. So why are we finding it difficult to field a competitive Super Eagles team when we have such good competitive teams at the youth levels?

The answer by many football analysts is that these youth players flame out by the time they are ready for the Super Eagles because they were not of the proper age when they played in FIFA youth tournaments.

Another well used reason is that we do not have a continuity programme; many feel that the teams should be ‘shepherded’ along from U17 to U20 to U23 till Super Eagles for us to see results.

I cannot fault these reasons but I will ask this question; why do many of these same players who play for us at this level never really become good players even when they go play for clubs in Europe? They never become that great player we saw at seventeen; but I do have an interesting reason or in new sports language, I have a take on this issue.

Every time we have won the U17, there are always great expectations that we would win the U20 in the next go around, but this is yet to happen. The three previous U17 wins were followed by U20 teams that did not even finish in the last four. Maybe that is where the continuity argument holds, but not so for me.

I believe the problem is our lack of good coaching at this level; this is the level where all basic football knowledge is acquired. The use of sophisticated methods, drills and management are applied at this level and the results following our U17 success says that the teams are tactically unprepared and therefore out-played. The advantage we gain by using players over 17 in the U17s is nullified at the U20s, because boys of age 19/20 or men of 23/25 are physically the same, they are all in their physical prime.

We won the last U17 in 2013, we are playing in the U20 later this month, we are all very hopeful about this U20 team. Many are dreaming of the cup coming back to Nigeria, and I hope it does come to Nigeria. But if we fail as our records have shown, then I will be advocating for a foreign coach at this level and not at the Super Eagles level. This is where I believe we need help, real modern day football expertise, our players need this. They need it for their own football development and for a better Super Eagles.

There is a reason the present football federation is seeking Nigerians born and footballers bred outside our shores for the Super Eagles, there is a reason that the federation instituted a committee to find our young players at home and send them to foreign academies, the reason is that we don’t breed our young players the right or modern way. Our coaches are behind in the grooming of young players. We all witnessed the federation’s absurd suggestion to Keshi and his crew to go and get some coaching education and see how quickly it was rejected or ignored. The simple truth is that our coaches need sound and modern education in the field of player development and the U17 and U20 teams will be better served for now with an Oyinbo coach.

An Oyinbo coach at this level for us should be young, vibrant, full of ideas and cheap. He must come with an academy background from Europe and must have the ability to retain access to his academy so he/we can tap into their complete package of modern day football resources.

My brother no premier league club wants their players visiting Africa talk less of playing in a local champions tournament, we all saw what west ham did to ensure their player didn't go to the last AFCON. Just because they didn't come out and say it does not mean u can't put 2 in 2 together.

How many of his CHAN teammates do u see in any top clubs? U can't showcase your talents with a useless coach who's only tactical strategy is telling his players to fight.
