******* Ogun state, Nigeria's newest Industrial Juggernaut ******* It began as a trickle, but now, it is no more news, that Ogun state in South-Western Nigeria is the new juggernaut in the fields of Industry and Academic institutions. It can be said that the state is currently experiencing an unprecedented industrial revolution, as an ever increasing stream of Companies, Industries and firms are beginning to site production plants, Warehouses and all kind of facilities in the state, From Dangote's Ibeshe plant (The largest in Africa), to various new Industrial and Power plants in the state, the new manufacturing plants that have commenced production in Ogun State belong to the biggest industrial concerns in the world, and are by no means minnow.. A former governor of Ogun State once described Lagos State as being attached to the belly of Ogun State. This description is reasonably apt, considering that Ogun is geographically the only or closest neighbor to Lagos, with both states conjoined through a vast borderline.- And the increasingly important role Lagos is playing in Nigeria and Africa, is beginning to Yield dividends in no small measure, for its much more endowed and bigger neighbor (ogun). The Huge metropolis that is Lagos has also spilled into Ogun state on many fronts, and state boundaries have blurred out. 9 Likes 3 Shares

While some of these firms are new entrants, others consist of manufacturing concerns which have decided to start producing from Ogun in facilities sprouting in all directions in the state. In 2012, Procter and Gamble, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of consumer goods, chose Agbara, Ogun State, as the appropriate site to build a $300 million plant. The company remains to date, the biggest Non oil Investment in Nigeria. Nestle, another big-time player, has a huge plant around the Papalanto section of the Lagos-Sagamu interchange. Other firms, which are by no means minnows, that have stationed their big plants to produce from Sango Ota, which is home to a cluster of industries in Ogun State, are Drugfield, Kolorkote, Fidson, Intercontinental Distillers, Pure Chemicals, Fine Chemicals, Farmex Mayer, Shonghai Packaging, Eagle Packaging, Leady Pharma, May and Baker, Nycil Ltd., Honda Nigeria Plc, and Assometal. 4 Likes 1 Share

It has been a win-win development for both the industrialists and the Ogun State Government. While the manufacturers have enjoyed seamless production in the state, courtesy of advantages being located in the state guarantees, the state government has also witnessed a boost in its Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, that has reached unprecedentedly high levels, in the last two years 3 Likes 2 Shares

In May 2014, Honeywell Group revealed that the company has forged a partnership with the United States Trade Development Agency, USTDA, by signing a Grant Agreement for a feasibility study on Honeywell’s multi billion Naira Sagamu Independent Power Plant project. The project, to be done in phases over the next five to seven years, has the potential of supplying about 1400MW of power. The power plant, when it is eventually put on ground, is expected to meet the power demands of industries in the south-western region of the country, with emphasis on Sagamu, Abeokuta and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway industrial clusters. Honeywell’s projection is undoubtedly to ensure adequate power supply to support its move of further expansion into Ogun State. CC: lalasticala, seun, tosyne2much, airforce1 8 Likes 1 Share

theV0ice: I hope so too. Nigeria an achieve a lot, especially in the area of industrialization, with adequate power supply. As you can see, most of these factories are setting up their own independent power supply sources, which cut away at profits at the end of the day. A more enabling and friendly business environment (make opening businesses easy), and a drastic increase in power generation will do the magic. Nigeria as a country needs to divest from oil and invest more in alternative sources of Incoe generation, while creating millions of precious jobs for out teeming and youthful populace. 9 Likes |

scholes0: sure. If the power problem in the country can be solved or reduced drastically, we'll grow in leaps and bounds. If i remember correctly, power problem is one of the reasons Michelin had to pack out of Port Harcourt leaving behind a sprawling industrial complex and hundreds of lost jobs. Nigeria will rise again....i'm optimistic 5 Likes |

OgunState government has stated that it would stop at nothing to position the State as the preferred destination for investors; not only in Nigeria but Africa as a whole. Economic Adviser to Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Mr. Rotimi Adewunmi, who stated this while speaking with THISDAY in his office at Abeokuta, the State capital, said the Ibikunle Amosun Administration was fully ready to explore the abundant resources in the State and open it for business. Adewunmi, who was flanked by the Special Adviser to the governor on Commerce and Industry, Mr. Femi Ogunsola and Senior Special Assistant on Trade and Investment, Mrs Adenike Aboderin, said the government would use the forthcoming two-day investors’ forum scheduled to hold in Abeokuta on March 26 and 27 to sell its economic master plan to international investors. He disclosed that the State government was particularly looking at investors from South East Asia and will also learn from Brazil in developing its housing sector. “What we are organising is not a summit where people come, talk and go but a summit where we can sell an economic master plan and do a follow-up after the forum,” Adewunmi said. “We have recognised where our strength lies and we want to capitalise on those areas. We want to attract people who will invest in those areas as well as other big players into the State,” he added. Special Adviser to the governor on Commerce and Industry, Ogunsola, said the State government was interested in developing the agriculture and agro-allied sector; mining, foundry, logistics and cottage industries. “What we are trying to do is to create an enduring sustainable platform between the government of Ogun State, those who are investing here at the moment and those who will be coming in the future. Our plan is to position Ogun State as the preferred investment destination in Africa,” he said. In her contribution, Senior Special Assistant on Trade and Investment, Aboderin, said research had shown that currently, Ogun State offers the best returns on investment. She also noted that the office of Trade and Investment and the Bureau of Lands, Urban and Regional Planning are working hard to make the state an investor’s delight, especially with the One-Stop shop concept where all the papers needed by investors could be processed under one roof. “Currently, research has shown that Ogun offers the best returns on investment. We therefore want to exploit this to woo investors into the State. We are not waiting until we have the entire infrastructure in place. We are starting by developing our roads and creating an environment that is conducive to business. “A joint task force is in place to ensure security and what we offer investors are in tandem with global standards. The response to our call has been overwhelming as investors are really hungry to do business here,” she stated. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/ogun-seeks-preferred-investment-destination-status/111991/ Ogun is moving...SW is progressing/moving. |
