Ogun - The only state, which name has more than 10 meaning.

Ogun - Juju or Charm

Ogun - inheritance

Ogun - War

Ogun - Sweat

Ogun - Medicine

Ogun - God of Iron

Ogun - Twenty

Ogun - Long

Sweat is Oogun

Long is not a noun and so cannot take a Yoruba noun. Therefore something long = "O gun" (something that is long)

Government is yet to know how to get more from the religious organisations all over the nation. Especially tjose along that axis of Ogun Lagos roads

Thanks. If I knew what to do to awaken the government, i would have done it. This madness must stop. For how long shall we continue failing to address a problem that affects millions of our people. From Lagos to Ibadan, left and right, front and back, all you see are religious fields, camps and churches instead of farms, factories, plantations, low cost housing estates that should give employment and comfort to nigerians.

Well, those are businesses in themselves. I believe the government should impose taxes on them. I can guarantee that we'll be able to generate enough funds to solve many of the nation's problems

Ogun state is a hidden gem mostly underrated by visionless and incompetent past leaders, and even by their indigence which are the most industrious and successful bussiness men and women in Nigeria. They have not been able to fully exploit this gem to achieve its full potential.

Ogun Infrastructural Development is Rapid and Fantastic - US AMBASSADOR

United States Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle has described the infrastructural development under the Senator Ibikunle Amosun government in Ogun State as rapid and fantastic.

Entwistle, who said this during his official visit to Abeokuta, the state capital yesterday expressed satisfaction at the quality of infrastructures being put in place to transform the Gateway State.

He noted that the expertise used by Amosun in achieving so much in less than three years could be needed in helping the United States develop better.

“What I see is fantastic, rapid development in Abeokuta. The roads, the bridges, the flyovers are very, very impressive. I have just told the Governor that we need his expertise to come help develop us in the United States”, he said.

The ambassador further revealed that one of the US biggest companies, Procter and Gamble would open up a factory in Ogun State in about a month’s time and that, “a lot of our investments are in Ogun.”

He added that the United States had interest in Nigeria’s next general elections, stating that, “we want Nigeria to have a transparent, credible and non-violent elections.

Nigeria's Ogun State, A Potential Industrial Leader in Africa

The President and Chief Executive Officer, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote says southwest Nigeria's Ogun State has all it takes to be a leading industrial giant on the African continent if her abundant natural resources are fully tapped.
Alhaji Dangote made this observation Tuesday in Abeokuta while speaking at a 2-day Ogun State Investor’s Forum tagged “Ogun State Open for Business”. The business mogul advised the State government not to jettison the Olokola Free Trade Zone project as it has the potentials of making the State the first among its equals throughout the continent. “Ogun State has what it takes to become the giant of Africa because it has a joint Free Trade Zone with Ondo, called Olokola where the government can facilitate the building of the biggest port in Africa. Truly by having Olokola port, Ogun will have more business than all other ports put together”, he remarked.

Alhaji Dangote pointed out that by having that port within the confines of the State, it would become bigger than any other state within Africa because of its proximity to Lagos, adding that the Lagos port was already congested
He also advised the State government to as a matter of urgency to consider raising funds to commence the linking of the eastern gas with the west which according to him would assist the State in setting up a petro-chemical industry and facilitate uninterrupted power supply to its industrial parks. In his remark, Chairman, Lafarge WAPCO Plc, Chief Olusegun Osunkeye advised the government to be consistent in its policies so as to attract more investors to the State. He pointed out that effort should be increased to ensure security of lives and property in order to create an enabling environment to attract genuine investors into the State. Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru disclosed that already, the present administration in the State had removed all bottlenecks and bureaucracy that could frustrate would-be investors.
He assured that genuine investors willing to set up business in the State have no cause to be apprehensive because the Senator Amosun-led Ogun State government remained unequivocally committed to providing the enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

[b]Ogun State, Chinese Firm Sign $3.2billion Light Rail Contract[b]

The Ogun State Government has signed a $3.2bn light rail project contract with the China Civil Engineering Construction Company.

The contract was signed on Monday at the governor’s office at Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, and the Consul General,  the Peoples Republic of China in Lagos, Kan Liu, was present.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun, who said the light rail would cover both inter-city and intra-city routes, explained that when operational, it would carry passengers and goods across major cities such as Abeokuta, Ijebu Ode, Sagamu, Agbara and Idiroko among others.

He said, “The light rail project is in two phases. The first will cut across the entire cities in the state, while the other phase will be for the Abeokuta metropolis.”

Ogun to Soon Overtakes Lagos in Industrialisation

INDICATIONS are increasingly emerging that Ogun is set to overtake Lagos in industrialisation . From Ikeja to Ogba, Isolo, Ilupeju, Amuwo-Odofin, Kirikiri and other industrial estates in Lagos, there is an emerging trend that has been ignored for too long - the gradual transformation of these estates to religious centres and/or residential estates. [b]Lagos State, which hitherto boasts of housing blue-chip industries, is gradually losing the bragging rights to other states as competition intensifies for its prime lands by religious bodies and wealthy persons who desire to fill the housing deficit gap created by the high population density in the state.

Except for a few warehouses maintained by distributors of foreign business chains who are not usually interested in building factories/industries in Nigeria, key industrial activities in the country, especially in Lagos, are becoming out of fashion. Apparently stifled by the lack of ease of doing business in the country occasioned by parlous infrastructure, multiple taxations, inconsistency in federal and state governments' policies, high cost of funds, among others, many industries have either shut down operations or moved their businesses outside the country.
For instance, the Ogun State government revealed that over 100 companies have shown readiness to locate their manufacturing outfits in the state, with 32 of this figure already on ground at different levels of operation, while 27 have fully commenced operations, a move that has spurred the state government to restructure its bureau of lands and survey for such activities.

Specifically, from the Sango Ota axis to Agbara, Ewekoro, Ibese, Ifo, Ibafo, Magboro and Sagamu, not less than 50 major manufacturing firms including Procter and Gamble, Nestle, Dangote Cement, Lafarge Africa Plc, WEMPCO Steel Mill, Multitrex Integrated Foods Plc, Drugfield, Kolorkote, Fidson, Intercontinental Distillers, Pure Chemicals, Fine Chemicals, Farmex Mayer, Shonghai Packaging, Eagle Packaging, Leady Pharma, May and Baker, Nycil Ltd., Honda Nigeria Plc, and Assometal, Nigeria Foundry Ltd., Dufil Indomie, Federated Steel Mills, Tower Aluminium, Nigerian Breweries, Nigerian German Chemical and Obasanjo Farms have registered their presence.

On its part, the Lagos State government is intensifying efforts to develop four new industrial estates located in Ibeju Lekki, Ijanikin, Ikorodu and Epe after some efforts at renovating its four existing small-scale industrial estates located in Isolo, Yaba, Sabo and Matori. Existing industrial premises in Lagos have become nearly moribund with skeletal operations and factories converted into mere warehouses and into religious worship centres, especially churches, while the few operating factories are not functioning at full capacity.

The Guardian learnt that religious institutions wielding high economic power and hardly restrained by statutory requirements expected of limited liability institutions, find such abandoned factories and warehouses attractive for their activities. The World Bank in its doing business report rated Nigeria alongside other 188 economies number 147 on the ease of doing business, nine points drop in its rank from position 138 recorded in 2013.

Key factors that depressed the indices include starting a business, getting electricity, getting credit/loans, protecting investors and paying of taxes. Indeed, the imperative of making the business environment conducive for industries to operate remains key as emphasized by stakeholders. Similarly, latest business confidence index of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), shows that medium and small manufacturing enterprises are the most hit by the lingering challenges constraining productive activities in the country. According to the chamber, the most disturbing factors for manufacturers include, power supply challenges, logistic and infrastructural challenges, the influx of imported and substandard products, preference for imported goods by Nigerians, poor access to credit, high cost of doing business, and inhibitive activities of government. On the country assessment level, the World Bank noted that Nigeria recorded significant improvements in its Doing Business Index within the last four years, but tasked the Federal Government on the need to address lingering challenges experienced by small businesses. Prof. Leke Oduwaye of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, University of Lagos, in his treatise on 'Urban Planning Implications of Changing Land Use Structure of Metropolitan Lagos, Nigeria', noted that religious land use has always been part of residential facilities in the land use structure of Lagos except for few religious locations within commercial districts such as in Lagos Island and Ikeja.

I love the Healthy competition between Ogun and Lagos states. This is great for development.
