You dont know what you are saying. Zonal marking clearly explained that Young went to camp with Aggonlanhor on the left thereby forming a triangle on the left with Agbonlahor and their left back.

Same way Silva formed a triangle with Nasri..... More so, Silva is the natural 10.

Coogar is right on this one. Based on what i watched and remember Ashley played most of his pre-United career as a winger. This is also supported by the images showing the position n direction of passes.
Having said that Young played much of his last season in Villa in a floating role behind the striker.

Carew, Heskey and Bent rotated striking if remember correctly while Agbonlahor,Downing and Albrighton were on the wings most times with Young floating across the line......THIS WAS IN HIS LAST SEASON THOUGH.
Before this it was Young,Downing and sometimes Milner on the wings

5. Zonal Marking said same thing.
6. Who scored said same thing.
7. Posters at the time said same thing.
8. I remember Young operated centrally in 2010/11 that season which prompted my invstigation.

The pass on the wing doent tell he played as a winger. I have used Silva to give an example. Zonal marking was clear. I will fish that aspect out. Young went to camp with his left winger to exchange passes just as Silva did with Nasri. I dont know why this is hard.

No he wasnt switched around. He was converted fully from the wing to number 10 during their Carling cup fixture against Wigan in September. He started out from the wing, then then the second half he was switched to the hole and gave an assist then score one. After that the coach said he had the potential to be the best in the world in the number 10, then he converted him.

So, would you say Alex Ferguson was wrong when he said he played the number 10? Was Young wrong himself when he said he played the number 10?

It's different. I am referring to only one match against BLACKBURN IN CARLING CUP IN SEPT 2010, where the coach decided he has discovered Young's best position. Then from the remaining 8 months of the season, Young was used centrally.

May be people didnt get the basis of this argument. Afrodoc confirmed my position but he went on to say I was wrong.

So when compare to the best in the world Young does not really mention up as a winger because his stats were boosted by the central roles he was assigned. I doubt if Di Maria ever played the AM(C) for Madrid when he was the best in Assists. I think I have to quit this since people didnt understand it.

we should focus on Muller & it'd be highly unlikely still! Muller will be deployed as CF surely.

I don't care about Schweinsteiger, there are younger alternatives out there. we are also building for 5-10 years from now which should be the blueprint, not just the immediate future!

so if young is camped on the left with agbonlahor, how is he deployed centrally? how did he operate centrally? he was stationed on the left - you have said so yourself so why are you disputing with opta?

against west brom, van persie swapped places with fellaini. it would be silly of anyone to say van persie played as a striker towards the end of that match. van persie went to camp with rooney in the midfield. all the passes young received were on the flanks......so how was he a number-10 for villa?

Ashley Young said he was number 10 in September 2010.
Ashley again said he was number 10 in March and confirmed he played same position when he scored for Denmark in February 2011.

SAF said Young played the number 10 for Villa in 2010/2011.

In February 2011, Villa coach and reports has it that Young was still playing behind the striker. Need not mention the ZM and whoscored reports throughout the season.

Overall pattern

The pattern was as expected – two counter-attacking sides playing out a cautious match, and the only two goals coming from corners. There were few clear-cut chances in open play, and despite the intention of both sides, relatively few dangerous counter-attacks either.

Atletico started with their usual 4-4-2 shape but moved to 4-1-4-1 after the break, while Real’s system initially seemed a hybrid of 4-4-2 and 4-3-3, although looked more like a simple 4-4-2 the more the match continued.

Di Maria had a burst of pace and whipped in a stream of crosses from the left, which was Real’s zone of strength. Marcelo supported him effectively and played some neat combinations, while Ramos also moved forward from centre-back to help down that side. Although Atletico were reasonably happy defending crosses, this was still Real’s best hope of getting back into the game – they didn’t seem to have enough space to break down Atletico’s defence from central zones. Marcelo to Di Maria was the game’s most frequent passing combination, despite the fact they were only on the pitch together for half of the 120 minutes.

Real’s long wait for a tenth European Cup is over, although it’s difficult to pinpoint precise tactical reasons for the triumph in this final. Ancelotti’s changes were broadly effective and Di Maria was superb, but their star players were underwhelming.

You can see from above that Di Maria takes the ball forward, starting a counter. As they move into attacking Zone, Ronaldo moves inward joining Benzema while Di Maria goes to the wing. Something similar Fletcher and Agreaves have done for us previously.

i don't even know why this argument is relevant. young had a better season as an out & out winger in 07/08 with 17 league assists in a villa side that paraded the wackest strikers in europe. it was man utd that actually ruined young. he was very very good before he joined united.

I am not disputing Young that is good. But my point is that 1. He played behind the striker in 2010/2011. .... 2. His utility aspect has always been exploited which boosted his stats even in 2007/2008. Young started his career as a striker in Watford, and that made him easy to get into fluid front when needed.
