Who are these progressives? Please don't kid yourself.
The people who ensure that all children have access to free schooling.

The people who have access to healthcare.

The people who ban child marriage.

The people who do not kill farmers.

The people who do not commit atrocities in the name of a Middle Eastern religion.

Those are the progressive peoples.

Impressed.

Step in the right direction. And if anything I saw on bloomberg news a few months ago is anything to go by, especially the statements by two US diplomats, they should get more than enough support from the US.

Step in the right direction.

Then demand for a change in constitution? If that is denied then take it to world court. This is not a solid ground for a breakaway.

Were you in Limbo when the Nigeria state refused every call for structural change and increased derivation (50%)? The Nigeria state has shown time and time again that it is not shifting its ground on maintaining the fraudulent status quo.
Hmm. But I still think they could've taken the matter to the international court. In view of the refusal, I am slightly inclined towards a break away. More could be done to fight for the union tho, before giving up.

I surely did, but in the context of a break up, I dont think it was a strong argument. Look at how Scotland fought for a change in the constitution this year, and you will see more can be done on that front.
Sorry, I am bias towards the union of the whole southen region so there.
Maybe you listen again to that presentation... He wasn't outrightly rooting for breakaway as the only option... Remember his reference to 1960 situation that worked which recognized different zones...Scotland had referendum which favoured a stay back in UK but they have some reasonable autonomy too from the centre...

The US Congress? Why not the UN? The last time I checked, it's the UN that guarantees self determination for countries, not the US Congress.
US has a veto power in UN decision (ask Palestine) hence they have allies they can convince to buy the idea if properly presented.

I am beginning to see the reasons why barcanista switched from an outspoken Buhari supporter to his current secessionistic tendencies although i think i contributed. On a more topical note, in the event of a breakup, (which i still consider unlikely) i fear for my state Benue being left with a potentially backward north

I think this is the way to go - advocating for change through non-violent means; however, I seriously doubt this is a hearing at the United State Congress.

1. Why obscure parts of the video that shows the speaker's periphery?
2. Why only show the speaker?
3. The moderator is CLEARLY not American and actually sounds Nigerian. Are you going to tell me that the US congress now has a Nigerian moderator?
4. The background does not look like the US Congress; looks more like one of the rooms that you can reserve from a local library.
5. How come the hearing does not appear on the Congress' calendar? http://www.majorityleader.gov/floor/#annual
6. No question from members of congress and/or their staff?

They need to lobby for international support before going in front of the UN.

No way! Nigeria is a flawed union. Nigeria has shown that it is not interested in a country built on justice, equity, freedom and trust. Our demands since the 1930s have repeatedly been rebuffed while the other region get whatever they desire at will. Enough is Enough. If Nigeria state really want Unity, it must agree for Fiscal Federalism and Resource control, and the 1978 land use decree must be annuled. Then we discuss other things. Otherwise, we shall insist on Referendum!
