shaybebaby:Nobody. Go on and screen for male fertility if you must. Funny thing is that it will be women who will also protest more against this, they know that if such a demand were to be made mandatory before all marriages it would lend greater urgency to the demand that they should open up their past too. |

Lol, I don't understand why you guys are even taking the topic serious to the point of wanting to start an argument. It's simple really and I agree with the study, which is why I suggest these women on NL direct their husbands and brothers to read this thread....these are the people whose sperm count and overall fertility y'all should be bothered about, not strangers. ![]() ![]() |

Nigerian population breakdown 0-14 years: 43.2% (male 39,151,304/female 37,353,737) 15-24 years: 19.3% (male 17,486,117/female 16,732,533) 25-54 years: 30.5% (male 27,697,644/female 26,285,816) 55-64 years: 3.9% (male 3,393,631/female 3,571,301) 65 years and over: 3.1% (male 2,621,845/female 2,861,826) (2014 est.) The highlighted group above is most likely the population from which these studies are drawn Rate of infertility ranges from 12-30% in subsaharan Africa Out of that number how many know they are infertile How many get tested? A study spanning years at a fertility clinic in a teaching hospital of the males that presented for tests is valid as it can get and should be a true representation of the situation. Anybody who knows anything about research work cannot argue with that You can choose to make the SE study a representation of the SE Men and the SW study a representation of SW men In either study, it is clear the men are just as culpable if not more in cases of infertility. |

Study in NW Nigeria gives a different twist In a society where most females there are married off as underaged virgins, most of the cases of infertility is from the women and secondary infertility rather than primary infertility accounts for most of it. Could the women be getting infected frequently by STDs from their polygamous and poly amorous men? Poor birth methods and untreated post partum infections after the first child, causing previously parous women to become infertile The study in the NW is very interesting and adds a different twist to all this. A total of 1,264 new gynecological cases were seen during the study period, and 198 infertile patients were evaluated. The prevalence of infertility was 15.7%. Primary infertility constituted 32.8%, while secondary infertility was 67.2%. Previous history of evidence of genital infection including lower abdominal pain (78.8%) and vaginal discharge (76.6%) were common. Female gender-related causes of infertility accounted for 42.9%; male causes accounted for 19.7%. Both partners contributed to infertility in 16.7%, while no cause was found in 20 % of patients. Conclusion: The study shows a dominance of secondary infertility with probable genital tract infection being a major contributor. Early presentation and prompt treatments of genital tract infections may reduce the prevalence of infertility in the study population.http://www.smjonline.org/article.asp?issn=1118-8561;year=2014;volume=17;issue=1;spage=7;epage=11;aulast=Panti |

babyosisi:The truth is that I do not blame men for their high standards; I blame women who think all a man needs to be a husband is his dick. It solely depends on the premium she has placed on herself... A servant can wish for a queen (it is now left for the queen to. degrade hherself to the level of the servant ); not much blame can go to the servant. We would not say because a queen managed a servant, a king should manage a servant too... it is his choice to choose a worthy bride or a queen. If a woman knows the stuff she is made of and where she is going to, it would guide her choice of husband... I am talking from reality here. Also, What you believe in is What you get at the end. Nobody has stopped the girls from carrying out all the tests too. If the guy would not bulge (,bad sign for me) and she is still willing to go on, What stops her from telling the Church/Mosque/parents to request for it? |

So ladies It has been proven beyond all reasonable ( and unreasonable doubts) that infertility in Nigeria is as much a man's fault as it is the woman's Therefore any man wanting to subject you to rigorous tests to check out your fertility before or after marriage must be willing to do a simple fluid analysis tests for starters. The childlessness may be his fault not yours Many men and women in Nigeria are mean to childless women out of sheer ignorance |

bukatyne:This should be the standard but unfortunately society dictates the standard in many cases We come from a society where sometimes the choice is not even the woman's to make and just as that choice was a collective one,her choice to stay or remain is also collective. Believe me this thread has knocked and will knock many people's halos sideways because it varies with everything they ever believed But I also assure you it won't change much about their actions tomorrow That is how innate the problem is The average man huffing and puffing about a barren wife after reading this thread will still be advised and will prefer to get a second wife in a case of infertility . Anyway |

bukatyne:If you are married off at 13 and thrown out at 15 because you couldn't conceive what choice do you have in your predicament? Do you know it is more kosher to accuse a woman of infertility than a man Women whose husbands have problems with infertility would rather admit in public the problem is theirs than tell anyone their man is carrying akamu instead of se.men It is a grave destruction of his manhood plus injury To say that a man cannot give his wife belle Ah How can he survive such an accusation If a woman with an infertile husband dares say it to an outside party and the man or his family hears it,they will deny it with all their might and that marriage may not survive that accusation Nigerian men are not supposed to be infertile It is a woman's problem Nne this is not that easy o |

Your typical nairaland dude will deactivate first be accepting any fact that's not in his favor. Leave the mathematicians When I need help for calculus exams now, I won't find any of them ![]() The habits that some men engage in which could prevent them from having kids or having healthy kids are so many that even without a survey one can rightfully gauge the proportion of men in a given area who are at risk. Some don't even know that they need to give up drinking alcohol before trying to conceive to avoid producing weak sperm cells that may not fertilize the egg or if it does could put the child at some risk. Drinking and smoking and partying around every weekend and sometimes during the week is kind of like a habit for many guys. Sleeping around is not condemned amongst them. Yet they will be the first to start looking at the woman's face when they get married and can't have kids even though some of them (the guys) spent their youth engaging in activities that's harmful to their reproductive health. http://www.theguardian.com/science/2014/oct/03/bmj-open-sperm-quality-alcohol-five-units-study-semen Drinking just five units of alcohol every week could reduce the quality of a man’s sperm, new research suggests. And the more alcohol consumed, the weaker the quality of the sperm, the study found. Men of a reproductive age should be advised to steer clear of habitual drinking, the authors said Jahblessme: |
