Good Morning and thanks for the been here, Please am 29wks and 2day pregnant, and I don't feel my baby kick strongly like people says, sometimes through out a day, the baby might kick once or not at all, my hospital do scan at every ANC visit (which is every 2wks) and from the scan my baby is doing good, please what can I do to make the baby kick more. Am getting more scared by the day.Thanks

if it is menstrual like cramps it is normal...the womb is expanding. why not see your dr to alleviate your worries? also try not to self medicate if you can

The problem with reduced fetal movement is that before a baby dies in the womb, it first shows that sign. But many babies are okay but just are not very active or are just sleeping. The challenge is to know which is which. If you read no. 8 and 9 of this article http://www.wwl.nhs.uk/Library/FOI/Requests/2012_2013/October_2012/1398_GuidelineObs21_Antenatal_Fetal_Monitoring.pdf you will see that only Doppler ultrasound of umbilical blood flow can tell you. If blood flow to the baby is normal, nothing bad can happen to that baby for the next two weeks. That is what is meant by Doppler having a high negative predictive value, ie when Doppler says no problem, that means no problem. So the way to get reassured is to undergo Umbilical artery Doppler scan. If it's normal, then you don't have to worry for two weeks. If the baby is active after that, you don't have to repeat it.

Drink ice cold water or 7up or coca-cola in the evening. Then lie down on your back and relax.

Give it 10-30minutes, then you will know what it means to disturb a gentle baby

Amoxil is that not an antibiotic? I'm not a doctor but I'm sure no doctor will prescribe such in early pregnancy.

Ibruofen too is a No-No. I was told that clearly by my GP and midwife. Only acceptable pain relieve is paracetamol or codeine taken at the lowest possible dose. (please note that codeine was given to me as a doctors prescription. I'm not sure if it's an OTC medication).

How early in pregnancy are we talking about? Embryo becomes a fetus at 8 weeks, so can you be more specific? For any pain in early pregnancy, first thing is to exclude ectopic pregnancy

In order to feel your baby move, drink very cold water or something very sweet (juice or soda) and lie on your side, preferably left side. Time the movements, you should feel movement a bit more frequently (it will be upto 10 movements every 2 hours in 3rd trimester). Baby's doing fine. Not all babies are active, in my 29th week I had a reasonable calm baby. Now in 35th week and it's a bit more playful (also babies in utero tend to have different sleep patterns than you, they can't tell night and day and sometimes it's hard to feel them during the day, as your moving around rocks them to sleep, like a regular baby and sitting still makes them wake up)

There are categories of medicine during pregnancy (A, B, C, D, X). A is safe to take during pregnancy and X is never to take during pregnancy. Amoxicillin is an anti-biotic and category B (safe BUT MUST BE PRESCRIBED BY YOUR DR) so no over the counter or self-medication (if your doctor feels you have an infection that requires antibiotics to treat, they will prescribe at the right dosage, please note if your OB not you, not your co-worker, not your mother, not your neighbour, not one pharmacist like that, only your OB should be prescribing.

Ibuprofen is a category C/D (there is a risk involved taking it during pregnancy, particularly in your 3rd trimester). One of my brothers prescribed it in my 2nd trimester but I chose not to take it. It should NOT be taken self-medicated.
