it's free to register and you can register at ANY bank that you have an account with. for instance if you have 4 accounts with four different banks just enter into one of those banks and do the BVN, it covers the other accounts. your bvn is just like your mobile number; just 11 digits which will be sent to your phone the next day or more after registration. the BVN will be requested for future bank transactions which may left you disappointed if you don't have it. for more information about the importance visit www.bvn.ng Cheers

i wish to read more about the process and its functions but the link you provided is not in use.

Nigerians like last minute rush. BVN can only be done once in any bank in Nigeria provided you have an account. After the registration and your biometrics is taking, the BVN would be generated after about 24hours and would be sent to the phone number you provided upon registation. Usually there's system error or network error and that's why some people after registration don't get the sms, all you need do is just goto any branch of the bank where you registered if the branch where you registered is not in close proximity to you, walk into the branch and ask for your BVN. They'd usually ask you to provide some details you used for registration (Name, date of birth), they'd search for it on their system and give it to you. Or if you're given a ticket I'd after the BVN registration, go to any of their branches in Nigeria they'd input the ticket I'd on the system and give you your BVN. You'd get the BVN card after 2-3months of registration usually. You don't need to register for BVN twice, if you do it the 2nd time it won't go through as the first registration is already active. The BVN is designed so that banks can have easy access to every bank users profile, all transactions you do in all banks can easily be tracked with your BVN number. That's why when you walk into any bank branch, they'd ask you for the BVN. I hope I have enlightened someone.

Some lousy banks are using the BVN enrolment as an excuse to get you to open accounts with them, which is clearly unprofessional. If you had stayed long enough afterwards, you'd have been given account opening forms to complete. The commercial banks actually have a target to meet, BVN wise, set by CBN which explains the desperation. For the avoidance of doubt, you must ensure you are enrolled ONLY ONCE in a bank WHERE YOU MAINTAIN AN ACCOUNT. At the point of capturing your biometrics, demographic data and identity is verified via the info you provided WHEN you first opened the account. This is why you cannot logically be enrolled in a bank where you don't have an account or banking relationship- They don't have have any of your info to compare against.

I see. So they mean they would have expected to me queue up for hours only to be given an account opening form? Those guys should be shot! angry Thank God I didn't waste time there.

Very true. I eventually did mine in Zenith bank and was given the ticket. I came back two days later to get my number sine it needed it urgently. I then received the text about a week later
