about 16 million and expense of $21,700

$21,700/yr for a masters degree (either mech engineering or not) way is too much.

Do you get any form of funding from the school? If not, you should start working on that before you leave.

Hi all its been fun reading most comments and advises. So much to learn. However I must confess it is impossible to read everything due to time constraints and level urgency so pls forgive me if I'm about to ask a question already answered before.

My question are this.

1.Can you present a bank statement at the embassy different from the one your presented to your US school for your sponsor

2. if ur sponsor is in america, can you still convince them at the embassy that you will return after schooling

Hi, would like to email you concerning commonwealth scholarship, my sister was offered one but they are asking her to pay an acceptance fee. I don't know if that is normal. Please I ll appreciate a response. Thanks.

ScholarAkassi:
I hail all the Gurus in the House. I am a neophyte on this forum, but I recognize bbdd from GradCafe. bbdd this is AfricanScholar congratulations on your visa approval. My visa interview is on the 26th May I wish myself and others the best. Although I was awarded a full scholarship (full tuition waiver and an annual stipend for 6 yrs) for my Ph.D at Rice University Houston Texas, but I must state here that all the transcripts I have read so far reveal one thing to me that visa approval is just by God's favour. When I did my masters in the UK, I enjoyed the luxury of Commonwealth Shared Scholarship so visa processing was so easy no interview, no qualms at all. My interview is 6:30 am in Lagos and like bbdd I pray not to go back home with my passport that day because by the grace of God the VO must say yes. The journey to this stage has been so rough and tough, but the prescient light I always visualize at the end of the tunnel has made the testimony to be sweeter. On this forum, I look forward to offering important tips for those applying for Ph.D and hopefully seeking for financial aid. From my experience, although your credentials must be appealing but it is really about selling yourself and demonstrating your potentials to Professors. It will be unwise for you to apply to departments where you did not communicate with their Professors before hand though you might be lucky to get in but in most cases you might end up just wasting the application fee. Communicating with Professors before hand is a crucial step for Ph.D admission and funding. I wish the whole house best of luck we will all excel. Cheers

I don't agree with you. What really matters is your profile, how well you present yourself and the grace of God. I know countless people on this thread who have had their Visa's approved yet were not sponsored by their biological parents. I also know countless people on this thread whose "Dad" was the sponsor yet were denied visas.

Like I previously said, its your profile that matters - did u take any standardized test? (+1)
How well can u explain ur choice of school and course? (+1)
Can u articulately explain your relationship with your sponsor, sponsor's source of income n reason sponsor is sponsoring you? (+1)

That said, even with a well packaged profile, you could get denied (vo's could be funny @ times) but the odds are in your favour. This is where the grace of God comes in cos with prayers, all things are possible.

Hope I have convinced u as well as allayed the fears of all those with non biological parents as sponsors that having a non sponsor does not in any way affect your chances of getting a visa?
This sounds like a debate though but right on point grin

Congrats bro

Please did you send your sister's SOA and yours to get I-20 ?
Who did you fill on "Person/Entity Paying for Your Trip" on DS-160 form: self/Family?

I sent both SOA to get the I-20
I filled SELF, but realised it was a mistake just a day to my interview cos a higher % was from my sister

No, it would not be an issue. You must not necessarily enter the US via the POE closest to the state you are going to.

I'm going on a full scholarship.
There must have been a mistake somewhere. Perhaps you read the wrong transcript.

Regarding your questions, the person paying for your trip should be whoever your sponsor is. It should tally with the account statement you'll present too as well as what's written on your i20

Hope this helps.

Now I'm confused, are you saying one cannot present a diff sponsor bank statement for i-20 and interview?
