gsun:Congrats on your admission, funding usually depend on your rapport with the professors if he willing to accept you into his research team. Profs usually get grants/ funds to carryout research and usually runs in millions most times. Contacting the profs is not an act of desperation , infact, I don't think that is usually the case here depending on the manner. You will have to read the profile of the professors and see if you're interested in their research. Since the graduate coordinator promised to match you with professors with funding, I think you should maintain contact with him while also contacting the professors of your interest in their research, it doesn't harm or show desperation. Don't defer your admission, wait till you get the funding, then you can defer. |

donkotman:No one is being rude, its just the truth, there are a lot of information google can provide. I had issues with my Iphone and got it fixed myself with google and youtube. I asssted my roommate in upgrading the memory of his Macbook with same google and youtube. As a Masters degree applicant you should learn now on how to do research yourself. I took an online course without having to email the professor or even attend his sessions. When I have google and youtube. You can always register for your GRE yourself by registering your card with paypal. CC sirriddy, profojah |

gsun:Oh dear That school is very very heartless. PhD without funding is very rare. I can't even believe they would do this to you when other schools are giving full funding plus juicy stipends to their PhD students. No PhD is worth it without funding in fact the idea of PhD Is work - study and you even pay tax and you get a social security number like other Americans (like my case) Anyway, it's a two way thing. Mail, call, disturb, hound the department contact person Another Avenue is to mail the current students and ask them if they're funded and how they went about it. Don't defer yet. PhD application process is so harrowing I don't think anyone wants to do it twice. I certainly wouldn't. Lol. Just don't defer yet. There's still time. I got my 4th PhD admit just last week. After I've even gotten visa. So please don't give up yet. |

gsun:Funding can be quite competitive and it is not something to be passive about. Don't sit back and wait. Locate one or 2 professors in the department with research fields in line with what you want to do and contact them. Don't be too direct about wanting funding in your first email to them. First impression matters a lot. Rather in your email, suggest ways you can help them improve on their research works, current or past. Before you email them be sure to access and download one or two copies of their research work, thoroughly go through them and come up with ways you think you can better the research. Never make the fact that you want funding for the sake of its money so apparent and clear. Rather, an intense interest in research should be your expression, your reason for wanting funding. Or else, the professors would think you are just going for the money and I can guarantee you a 100% that no professor would grant you funding knowing your motivation is just for the money and not for the research itself. And don't defer your admission yet. Slug it out first with your professors to see if you could get funding for next semester. PhD candidates are often given funding at the same time with admission. You should get one. |

rajkelvin101:The only time I have seen an issue come up with this most often is when the student travels out of the US, say, for a visit and tries to re-enter the US. At the border, agents usually check to see if the student has broken any of the F1 visa rules such as working off-campus and if it is discovered, the student could be deported back to their home country. |

bbdd:Lol. I don't think they are heartless. they may not have funds. Gsun, Option 1: Contact professors, tell them you have gotten admission and you want to work in their labs. Express interest and enthusiasm. It is not a display of desperation, but proactiveness- an important quality for a PhD student. This is my preferred option. Option 2: Contact the Graduate coordinator and ask about the possibility of working as a graduate assistant with another department , unit, etc in your school. Option 3: In the likelihood, that you do not get funding, it is probable that funding opportunities will turn up after one semester. Do you have personal/parental funds that you are willing to spend for one semester? Weigh the possibilities. Option 4:Check if a PhD admission can be deferred. If so, defer and contact professors during that time. |

| Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 7 by bigfrancis21: 5:58pm On Jun 22, 2015 |
DanjaNinja:Both are fast depending on how you use them. Western union option is fast and takes about 2 days to reflect online. The check/money order option is fast if the mail (containing the money order and sevis payment form) is sent by expedited delivery (2 days delivery) which will reflect on the 3rd day. However, if the mail is sent by regular mail deliver (which takes from 3 days to 5 days to deliver) expect the payment to reflect online in about 5 days. But, WU payment option is costlier - it costs $10 to pay by this option. |

Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you for your inquiry. The Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs is currently experiencing technical problems with visa systems. This issue is not specific to any particular country or visa category. We are currently unable to print most immigrant and nonimmigrant visas approved after June 8, 2015. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working urgently to correct the problem and restore full operability. We have no timeline as to when this will be completed. Best Regards, Consular Section |

Mystiqme:Good advice. But in many pharmacy and biomedical schools if they don't have funds they don't admit applicants which I think that's a more honest and straightforward approach rather than trying their luck to see if students will pay for PhD. How ridiculous! Gsun, mystiqueme and bigfrancis21 have given very sound advice. Get to work soonest. Goodluck bro. |
