Lol. I don't think they are heartless. they may not have funds.
Gsun,
Option 1: Contact professors, tell them you have gotten admission and you want to work in their labs. Express interest and enthusiasm. It is not a display of desperation, but proactiveness- an important quality for a PhD student. This is my preferred option.
Option 2: Contact the Graduate coordinator and ask about the possibility of working as a graduate assistant with another department , unit, etc in your school.
Option 3: In the likelihood, that you do not get funding, it is probable that funding opportunities will turn up after one semester. Do you have personal/parental funds that you are willing to spend for one semester? Weigh the possibilities.
Option 4:Check if a PhD admission can be deferred. If so, defer and contact professors during that time.

Please ensure you secure full funding from Graduate school or your department. Do not depend on soft grants from profs, except the grant will be available throughout the duration of your program.

One can be reported too aside the POE finding out themselves.

Not really. It depends on if the student goes running off his mouth to people, who in turn report him. So far as it goes, it stays between the employee and the employer. Hardly are students reported or arrested. Worst case scenario, the company fires you and you go, which I am yet to see or hear of anyway. Many people or places hardly know the laws concerning F1 visa and off-campus employment. Some students have often played on this general lack of awareness.

Moreover if a student will be adjusting status by marriage, working off campus is never a problem and it is overlooked. However, if the student would be adjusting status by H1B visa sponsorship, then that is when the issue would come up.

I am not supporting him though. I am just saying.

Hahahaha. Assuming visa has finished. I think you might make history by travelling to the US without visa. What do you think?

Of a truth, but they are getting the awareness now. I am not saying they cannot work or they will be caught. I am saying they can be reported as well, if the employer finds out or you get snitched on. Most better jobs will ask for your other documents like green card except you're going through a staffing agent. It's too much of risk to think they wouldn't find out. smiley

Thank you very much guys. I appreciate all your comments, I will follow it to the letter till something good comes out of it and not deffer yet.

I will start keeping close chase on the graduate advisors. I have reviewed the ongoing research work in my line in the department.

I will now review every closely related Prof's along the line of my experience and present thrust and establish contact with them to see which will accept me in their research group first. Check through one or two related publications from them and let them see how I can be help to them in that respect.

If time flies, I will deffer and use that moment to establish better contact too as they said I can deffer, if need be, that I should let them know.

I will let the house know of my progress.

Thanks again gurus in the house. My profound gratitude!!!

Hahaha. Never mind. The systems would be ready this week to print out visas. And you could travel.

Some people's prayers might have caused this. There's power in prayer!

really, here it's instant.

Yea, it varies from place to place.
To Pay by Western Union

1. Do not file the Form I-901 online.

2. Print a copy of these instructions, a copy of the Western Union form example and a copy of your I-20. Take a copy of each of these three documents with you when you visit your local Western Union Quick Pay location.

3. Go to a local Western Union agent location and pay the I-901 SEVIS fee in the local currency.

4. Review the Western Union form to make sure that the Western Union agent uses your name, your SEVIS ID number and your date of birth (not the information that appears on the Western Union form example). Find the nearest Western Union location or call the telephone number of the Western Union Commercial Services Network Agent in your country as listed in your phone book.

5. After three business days, check on FMJfee.com to view your payment status. Once you see confirmation of payment on FMJfee.com print out the confirmation page. The confirmation page is proof of payment of the I-901 SEVIS fee, and you can use it for a visa interview at a US Consulate or Embassy and for admission at a US port of entry.

6. If you are paying on behalf of someone else, Western Union may require you to use your own name and address. If this happens please make sure that you are entering the student’s SEVIS ID. After submitting the payment, please send an email or have the student send an email to fmjfee.sevis@ice.dhs.gov with INFO CHANGE in the subject line. Include the SEVIS ID for which the payment was made and any information requiring an update.

Personally I prefer not to use the WU option because then you provide all of your personal details, especially when you're not really sure of who you're paying for. Sometimes, I'd rather use the check/money order option because of anonymity on the payer's side.

I have paid like 20 times in different locations and it hasn't exceeded 24hrs. You how this payment works, the three days is a maximum but it can be processes within 24hrs. I usually pay around 10am and the next day evening it reflects.

For money order you will have to type the persons information on the money order. To me it's a long process that is cheap almost 9 dollars difference.

I have paid without using my right information. It's not all agent that require your ID card. smiley

I am not supporting anyone to work off-campus but I will be honest with what I have observed so far. Some students work off campus while going to school, especially if they plan to adjust status by marriage knowing that that will not be an issue. Adjustment by marriage is the only adjustment pathway that overlooks one's past 'transgressions'. Now, some companies and work places are hardly aware of the rules concerning F1 visa, as they assume that anyone with an SSN can work in the country, but from my observation, it is usually the very big companies that are usually aware of all these because they deal with the process of H1B visa filing for international students regularly and are aware of the work restrictions concerning F1 students. When a company hires an F1 student but later finds out about the work restrictions of the student, the last thing that company would want to do is report that student because at the same time it is equally reporting itself and will have to pay a fine, usually $10,000. Now, no company is willing to do such. Usually, when companies find out, they amicably sack the student and have the student go their way without much fanfare.

Most deportations occur when students travel out and back into the country and have to pass through the POE where necessary background checks are performed on F1 students. You can do a google search on this and read examples.

I am not supporting anybody to work off campus. It is against the law and anyone who chooses to do so does so at their own risk. However, I have been objective with what I have seen so far.

I don't understand what your argument is? In my earlier post I mentioned it takes up to 2 days to reflect, during which it can reflect much earlier, which is basically saying what you're saying. Why prolonging the debate?

This is not about proving who is right or wrong, I am not into this debate. I just made a point and I think well before I make any point.
