Am in a big mess,I have generated a coupon for my aunty to pay my sevis fee in US,but she keep insisting that I pay it in Nigeria either by me or my uncle that is sponsoring. My uncle now does not know how the sevis would be made.Pls house what can save my ass,?my resumption date is 17 august.helpppppppppp I need now plsssss!

The only options you have to pay are to either go to Seme border (Ecobank) or a particular company in Lagos that accepts payments.

The easier way would be to have someone here in the US pay for you. I can help you pay if you're interested.

I am not supporting anyone to work off-campus but I will be honest with what I have observed so far. Some students work off campus while going to school, especially if they plan to adjust status by marriage knowing that that will not be an issue. Adjustment by marriage is the only adjustment pathway that overlooks one's past 'transgressions'. Now, some companies and work places are hardly aware of the rules concerning F1 visa, as they assume that anyone with an SSN can work in the country, but from my observation, it is usually the very big companies that are usually aware of all these because they deal with the process of H1B visa filing for international students regularly and are aware of the work restrictions concerning F1 students. When a company hires an F1 student but later finds out about the work restrictions of the student, the last thing that company would want to do is report that student because at the same time it is equally reporting itself and will have to pay a fine, usually $10,000. Now, no company is willing to do such. Usually, when companies find out, they amicably sack the student and have the student go their way without much fanfare.

Most deportations occur when students travel out and back into the country and have to pass through the POE where necessary background checks are performed on F1 students. You can do a google search on this and read examples.

I am not supporting anybody to work off campus. It is against the law and anyone who chooses to do so does so at their own risk. However, I have been objective with what I have seen so far.
I hope am not repeating the question but my school allows both oncampus and offcampus but requires u register with the office for international affairs and get an SScard. Will dis affect me at the POE too since the school is aware if I chose to work offcampus? Thanks

Please lets be objective here and cut @bbdd some slack. He has some valid point that we all need to consider. While his response was a bit strongly worded, it is what it is - The truth. I know we all started somewhere and no one knows it all and no one ever will. Even the professionals on this thread were once complete novices who knew nothing. However the idea is that you need to at least make some effort to try figure out the basics on your own before asking questions. I fully acknowledge that in the process of learning, that no question is silly but there's a subtle difference - some questions show initiative and a strong desire to learn while others seemingly valid and logical, show complete lack of initiative and complete laziness on the part of the poster. For example the question "GRE and TOEFL, are they the same?" while seemingly valid, it also subtly shows that poster has made no single attempt on his/her own to try to understand the basics. We might argue that the poster is a complete novice and should not be scolded but common!!! lets be realistic here, while such questions are permissible they should not be acceptable. If you cannot at least google it up, how do you even pass the exam?. I mean, have you seen the verbal section of the GRE? Does it look friendly? Who would bail you out?

A better alternative would involve at least making an attempt by using google. Then if you still don't understand after using google, you are completely free to come on here and ask for clarification with emphasis stating that "although i checked the website, i still don't understand". That my friends shows that you have at least made an attempt and that makes all the difference.

I run a thread on nairaland titled "How to achieve high scores on the GRE". In that thread, i shared my GRE experience and tips on what i feel could help anyone achieve high scores. As part of the post, i included detailed explanations of how one could obtain GRE and TOEFL ebooks by sending blank mails to selfstudy360@gmail.com and selfstudy.version2@gmail.com. Yet, would you believe that i receive countless mails from those who claim to have visited the thread asking me for instructions on how to get the GRE ebooks? I even got a mail from someone asking me "how to achieve high scores"!!!!!!!! Like wtf? Kill me already!!!! After my detailed and extensive post, you ask this? It begs the question, did you even read my post? If you did, why ask rhetorical questions?

You think @bbdd is aggressive? Trust me, in life you will encounter situations where either you will not find anyone willing to help you or you will not find anyone with comparable expertise in solving your problem. In such situations, What do you do? Give up and cry or Roll up your sleeves and take the bull by the horn by using your initiative.

TLDR (too long, didn't read): I agree with bbdd. Please before asking questions, do some basic research. You will get more positive responses to your inquiry if you at least show that you have made an attempt but still cannot make progress cos most times, while your questions may seem utterly impossible, the answers are just one click away.

Big Francis killed it..See my life I just go dey beg for fund..maybe na why my advisor no reply my mail..I will see him when I get US..chai
bigfrancis21:

Funding can be quite competitive and it is not something to be passive about. Don't sit back and wait. Locate one or 2 professors in the department with research fields in line with what you want to do and contact them. Don't be too direct about wanting funding in your first email to them. First impression matters a lot. Rather in your email, suggest ways you can help them improve on their research works, current or past. Before you email them be sure to access and download one or two copies of their research work, thoroughly go through them and come up with ways you think you can better the research. Never make the fact that you want funding for the sake of its money so apparent and clear. Rather, an intense interest in research should be your expression, your reason for wanting funding. Or else, the professors would think you are just going for the money and I can guarantee you a 100% that no professor would grant you funding knowing your motivation is just for the money and not for the research itself.

And don't defer your admission yet. Slug it out first with your professors to see if you could get funding for next semester. PhD candidates are often given funding at the same time with admission. You should get one.

You are welcome bro but i dont think i deserve all the credit. I only operate selfstudy.version2@gmail.com. I dont operate selfstudy360@gmail.com and i dont remember who does. Whoever operates selfstudy360 deserves alot of commendation. It was the absence of some recent materials that led to my creating selfstudy.version2@gmail.com. As for the mails not working, i dont think that's true. Both mails are still fully functional. Whoever did not receive a response should check his/her spam folder. Most times, you will find the response mail there.

Lol. Lesson number 1 learned. Never be too direct with Americans. Americans are not direct people. We Nigerians are very direct. It is one of the cultural differences you'll notice when you come in here. You'll start learning how to mask your intentions perfectly, how to come up with a lot of convincing reasons to support what seems to be your conviction, meanwhile your intention is the exact opposite, and also how to talk a lot.

Hello Jaga,

Glad your orphanhood isn't affecting your ability to dream and congrats in advance for the successful completion of your service year. May you find the challenges ahead bearable.

To your question, how about you talking to a few people where you are presently. They could help. If none is willing to, I believe you can also find a way of legitimately increasing that balance with a few amount.

Sir, I want to believe there are schools that will give you admission with that balance. They might be very few though, but you can search and try your hands on some of them.

Significantly, your best bet now is to get an offer of admission with finding. Anything otherwise is a NO. With your 2m and a full funding, something pleasant could happen. May the odds be in your favor.

In some schools, my school for example, there are buildings or units that are part of the university which are not located on campus but off campus and international students can work at those places so far as the buildings are part of the university system. Is this what you are referring to?

If that is not it and your school actually permits off-campus employment, that's great. What can I say. Take advantage of it.
