I actually work in medical statistics (Analytics) and I certainly don't feel you need to do Phd to make your mark in the field. I quantitatively analyse medical data using programming to query health data to in turn spot trends and anomalies which we then use to drive improvement in quality of care.

True. I'm actually making my mark the little way I can. I've several published works and I'm consulted for my input during the planning, implementation and conclusion phase of medical research. But I really want to know the underlying principles behind those analysis. I need to know the mathematical/statistical principles behind chi test, student t test, regression analysis, ANOVA, etc

What was your experience like in pharmacy school.

It was very challenging but interesting and fulfilling. You have zero time for fun. And reading isn't enough, your reading have to be constructive. Pharmacy is voluminous like Medicine and technical like Chemistry.
